Assassin's Creed: Origins - HDR Optimized Settings
Added 2022-03-15 09:07:09 +0000 UTC
The game is NOT using/applying Xbox/Playstation HDR Calibration app settings.
The game has a really good HDR implementation offering precise controls of both Peak HDR Luminance and Paper White values (the last one will impact both in-game Menu luminance and gameplay Gamma).

If you have an LG OLED and:
> you're using Dynamic Tone Mapping or Dynamic Contrast:
- Set Maximum Luminance slider to: 4.000 (nits);
- Set Paper White slider to: 150 (nits) or 200 (for G3).
> you're using HGIG:
- Set Maximum Luminance slider to: 1.000 (nits; as there's a bug where anything below this will just trigger HDR "Off") or 1.500 (for G3);
- Set Paper White slider to: 200 (nits).
If you don't have an LG OLED and:
> you don't have an HGIG option:
- Set Maximum Luminance slider to: 1.000 (nits);
- Set Paper White slider to: 200 (nits).
> you're using HGIG:
- Set Maximum Luminance slider to the corresponding real Peak HDR Brightness for your TV (in nits) but don't go below 1.000 nits;
- Set Paper White slider to: 200 (nits).

The game also has a regular "Brightness" slider and pattern which shouldn't apply to HDR (in theory) but it does alter the HDR exposure too. Try lowering it by -1 click for best results in all cases.

Actually I remember something similar happening since D1 but under 800 nits, not under 1.000 like now so, yeah, something may have changed again from then.

2022-06-16 18:02:47 +0000 UTCHi! I've just double checked and yes, it seems that anything below 1.000 nits will just trigger the HDR range "off". So the 800 nits for HGIG isn't working as intended. I will update both games to use 1.000 nits also for HGIG to avoid that. Thank you for sharing this!

2022-06-16 07:35:35 +0000 UTCI have a LG CX. Did all the calibration settings as listed for the TV and console. Using HGIG, 800 nits in Origins makes the sun have a blueish ring around it and makes it look dim. It seems to be the same case in Odyssey as well. Bumping it to 1000 nits seem to fix the issue and the sun looks normal and bright. Wondering if you know what would be the issue and if 1000 nits is ok to use. Thanks!
