But at the end of the day, he's trying to protect his family; he doesn't mind having to get his hands dirty in order to do that and he see's that Otto is trying to drive that wedge between him and Viserys'. He stole that specific dragon egg to get the King's attention and to get Viserys to come to Dragonstone without Otto so they could speak alone. But obviously Otto doesn't want them to make up with one another so he volunteers to go instead.
