How The Shawshank Redemption Humanizes Prisoners

Time for a brand new video essay! In this episode, I take a deep dive into why The Shawshank Redemption remains so popular 25 years after its theatrical release, and examine how the film functions as a critique of the modern prison system in the United States.

Next up will be part 2 of my series on the sexual assault of men played for comedy in Hollywood. That episode will cover some of the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune of researching and will focus on media where women are depicted as preying on men.

As always, I couldn't make these videos without your continued support!

Thank you!

-Jonathan

PS:  Warner Bros. had blocked my video essay even though it's very clearly fair use but we got them to back off. The YouTube link is working again. Just in case I upload all my episodes on The Internet Archive so if the YouTube version is ever down, you can watch them all there.
