I'm not familiar with it, but I get what you mean. Keeping the gist of the creature while adding little personal touches is a nice idea. Some Pokemon were meant to be able to be more expressive than others in design, so it's a good idea in those cases.

( <a href="https://www.tumblr.com/search/pokemon+redesign" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.tumblr.com/search/pokemon+redesign</a> ) They general gist is to make Pokemon with different style/anatomy/personality. I want to kind of incorporate that, especially as the comic progresses and our Pokemon really find themselves, y'know? :D So Vincent's darker coat and freaky eyes are part of that. (Bee's Eevee also has a bob-tail but it wasn't really visible in the campfire scene...)
