a nuanced discush about wednesdays

CORN POPOLAS! let's have a little chat about wednesdays and this new show!

i've been thinking and pacing MUCH about it, and have been listening to tons of feedback from yall as well, and i think we have a couple options we could go forward with.

before i dive in im gonna START by saying i want to hear ALL opinions, do NOT be mean or snarky toward anyone or their opinion OR ME CAUSE IM SENSITIVE okay and i know i wont be able to make everyone happy, regardless of decision, but i think its important to kinda hear everyone out.

SO gilmore girlies won the poll, however i wasn't aware it was 7 seasons long, meaning it will lock down that time slot for about ~3 years~ give or take. that means basically all of our permanent days (mon, wed, fri, sat) will all remain on the same shows for 3 years, leaving the only change in schedule to be sponsored series (sundays) and thursdays after dollhouse opens up (which i reserve solely for short series, and only as i have time to fit them in).

my question for YALL is - would you be okay with this? or would you prefer wednesdays to remain our sort of mid-length series day, giving us a little freshen up every year or so?

no right answers, you dont even have to comment further if you dont want to, but again please remain friendly and cordial in the comments.

ALSO JUST A NOTE cause new month is coming up soon, wednesdays will have some VM behind the scenes and other VM content to fill the time and the new show (whatever we decide) will likely be toward the end of the month so we have time to discuss.

sorry about the long post, its just been on my mind for weeks so i figured, why not ask the corn pops right?!

okay love you all byeeeeee! xo

I've seen it mentioned a few times that Gilmore Girls isn't a good show from a reactions standpoint. That's not an opinion I share, more than that though. That's not the only reason I'm here. Just as much I'm here for thoughts & analysis. There's a dozen people on YouTube (probably more than that) who don't even pause during their shows. They run it all the way through & then maybe say a minute or two after the show. I'm not discounting reactions. I feel like Darcie's discussions are just as important.

Arcane!!!

Just me over here since the beginning of your Patreon, still begging for CHUCK. It's 5 seasons, but 2 of them are 1/2 seasons, so it's like only watching 4. 🥺 Love yous! 🩷

Ephinyus

That would be fantastic lol

DaniJay

I haven’t seen either of the top vote getters, so I don’t have a preference. In general though I don’t think it is a good idea to put a limit of seasons or episodes because it potentially excludes more popular shows. For instance, the highest vote getter for this poll that meets the proposed (2 to 4 seasons) criteria is Wednesday (Orphan Black is 5 seasons) had a little more than half the support of Gilmore Girls and the rest that meet the criteria have less than half the support. You could go by episodes instead, if you set the cut off at 52 episodes because it would take a year or less. In this case it could be justifiable because orphan black would be included, but eventually you would just including much less popular shows than the ones you are excluding due to length. It might be too late but I would propose doing a tournament with no restrictions on series length. This gives a little preference to shorter shows, since people without a strong opinion would probably vote for the shorter show. It would also allow for much more popular longer shows the opportunity to win.

Gilmore Gang Rise Up!

SunnydaleClassof99

Gilmore Girls fits Darcie perfectly! Let’s come up with something that suits all of us both while also keeping GG since it’s what most of us voted for

carly powell

Thanks for participating. I don't want to contribute to your anxiety but I have to disagree with you as politely as possible. I think another poll really would not be fair based on what's happened so far. I know there isn't going to be a solution that makes everyone happy. Disregarding what happened so though I don't think is the way to go. Gilmore Girls won the poll. Apparently it shouldn't have been on the poll but it happened. Now that she's realized it's a longer show it seems clear Orphan Black is the best consolation prize. It won second place in the poll by considerable amount. Yes, it's more than four seasons but it's only 50 episodes. There's been a lot of support here for Orphan Black in the comments. We're already on a second poll now. Having to do a third poll & ignore the results of what's already been voted on just doesn't sit right with me & seems pretty unfair.

SunnydaleClassof99

I’m a Gilmore Girlie however, I do like the idea of variety so all the same shows locked in for three years seems tedious to me. I will be happy with whatever you decide.

Nettie

I'm team Orphan Black (or another shorter show if not that). I was super excited it was in the running, because I feel like it matches the mystery energy of VM so well, despite it being an entirely different genre. I was excited for you to get your board out again, and OB would be a great one for that! (Please don't exclude OB from the "shorter show" list - it has 5 seasons but they're only 10 episodes each!) Regarding Gilmore Girls, I do like the show, and I would enjoy watching you watch it, BUT it just feels so basic compared to many of the other options. I'm trying not to get too detailed about any of the shows on the table because I want you to make up your own mind and not be overly influenced by our thoughts, so don't read past this if you want to remain 100% without seeing general opinion stuff (no spoilers though, obviously): GG is a fine coming of age, mother-daughter/generational show with some witty dialogue and a host of fun and wacky side characters, but IMO it can be frustrating to watch, hasn't aged the best in terms of its choices of humor (even the reboot had some questionable stuff in it honestly) and would lead to much less interesting discussions than some of the other options. That being said, I would definitely watch your reactions to GG and probably thoroughly enjoy them, just probably less so than with many of the other options.

Quiver

It's ultimately her choice but I like that she's asking our opinion though, especially because as Darcie said, she didn't know GG was that long when she put it on the poll. It was just an unfortunate mistake. Also I don't think she would remake a poll for GG, I'm pretty sure she would just keep it for when one of the two long shows is over. I think AOS could be finished around mid to late 2026.

madfem

Didn't vibe with it. Can't really explain it. I like the actors, and the plot is solid. The writing is sharp. Maybe it's just one too many who-done-its? Who is the rapist? Who is the murderer? Why did the mother leave? The uneven footing makes me feel uneasy. And it doesn't help that I can't stand the douchebag who is clearly going to be thrown into an enemy-to-lovers storyline. Guy is an entitled psychopath. At least Spike was charming.

James B.

I agree, I think a new poll would be better... I just dont know if there is enough time to do it, the other one was up for about a month...

Lais

I dont usually interact here (social anxiety shows up even on the internet) but I was wondering if wenesdays are reserved for shorter series, would it be possible to have another poll done. Removing all the shows that have more than 4 seasons i.e. shameless, once upon a time, castle, etc. I know it would be difficult but since Im not a orphan Black fan, I hoping another show would win. And I dont remember would sujected it but having The good place and Jessica Jones added would be a good idea.

Viviane

I understand that but those shows are not ending for years and by that point will GG have to win another poll? I just think is a bit unfair to ask to people who won a poll that was up for a month to wait for 2 - 3 years to maybe get to see the show they voted for. Like I said if she chooses to do another show I probably will watch it (as long as it’s not a show that I actively dislike) but I think some kind of compromise like alternating seasons or episodes would be more fair.

analu

I am absolutely okay with anything. Originally I was really irritated that it won but the more I thought on it, I was ok with it. Because of a certain person you'll meet that transitions to SPN world. However...I now worry this means spn wouldn't be anytime soon. I am choosing to not vote, but I am okay with anything as I support Darcie- not just my TV show agenda. ❤️

The Oracle Witch

Not gonna lie, I’d be a kinda bummed if we didn’t do Gilmore Girls since it did win the poll and many of us were looking forward to it. Plus I do think you’d have a fun time watching it! But at the end of the day, if it seems like having another longer show would be a problem, then you should definitely do whatever you feel is best for you :)

DaniJay

She's already reacting to two long shows, that's why it's a problem that GG is also long. That's why we want to keep a slot for shorter shows. It will be no problem to start GG when she finishes one of the long shows she's currently reacting to.

madfem

I love Gilmore Girls but I think Orphan Black would be much more fun as the Wednesday reaction show. My vote would be a shorter show and OB only has 50 episodes. It would only take a year and a bit.

Josh LeBlanc

I like GG and would love to rewatch with you, but its fine if we watch something else like OB. But I do think its a bit unfair to those who voted for GG. Also it’s not like the show is gonna become shorter so as soon as we started would be better, no? Like if you are still planning on watching not doing it now just feels like pushing the problem. A suggestion: do a season of GG and then a season of another show, that way you give the GG the content they want and move along with the show but also give other content so we don’t get stuck with only GG for so long. Just intercalate one season of each. Hope this suggestion is taken into consideration. Love u 😘

analu

Just curious had you already seen VM & knew you were not interested or never gave it chance period?

Ben

It's a good show, it'll be fine. Why not take it season by season. If your interest in the show would wane, it'd make sense to replace it with something else at some point. After all, we're here to see you have fun with the shows you're watching. And if the community's interest would wane over time, that too could change things. Let's watch this first season and see how it goes?

Patrick Armbruster

Look it’s a tough decision either way and I don’t envy the position you are in at all girl ❤️. Objectively I think keeping Wednesday as a mid length show slot would be ideal. It gives shorter shows that might be otherwise overlooked a reaction platform. At the same time it would also ensure the schedule changes up more frequently so people aren’t waiting years for a show they are interested in to pop up. In terms of Gilmore Girls vs Orphan Black, I’m a fan of both shows but personally would much prefer Orphan Black reactions. Gilmore girls is more of a casual watch for me where I’d only check in now and then for reactions to certain episodes/storylines. It’s a great show and I can 100% see you vibing with it but Orphan Black feels more of a natural successor to vmars in terms of tone/vibe. It also seems to be far less represented in the reaction community and is only 50 episodes as opposed to the 150+ of GG, which as you pointed out would lock you down for a few years. I do feel for Gilmore Girls fans though if Wednesday does become a mid length show slot and a different show is reacted to first. If that happens I think it’s only fair that it is preemptively allocated to the next open slot in the schedule since it did win the current poll.

Imogen

Gotta disagree there. Been watching one with "Watch This! with Joe and Kevin," and they've been adding some substantive comments. It's been pretty enjoyable.

James B.

Nothing to do with me. Watch it, if you enjoy it, keep watching. If you don't enjoy it, stop watching it.

Shaun Houghton

I love both Gilmore Girls and Orphan Black so I’m happy if you do either, but with Orphan Black so much shorter it might make more sense to do that one first? Or a split Wednesday as others have suggested?

Andrea

Personally not looking forward to Gilmore Girls ... There's so many better shows out there. So my vote is too keep Wed shows as shorter seasons so we can have more options. That show is a huge commitment when you've already got a long show currently going now.

Kimberly Bellow

I'll def be sitting out Gilmore girls. Its okay, nothing fun for reactions though.

Kimberly Bellow

I would never suggest anything so extreme, but realistically, alternating seasons would still mean much smaller gaps between seasons than those of us who watched them live would have had. Again, I don't feel super strongly about this, I'm just spit balling compromises

Paflad

Darcie has already seen The Good Place on her own.

madfem

Although either way I may be sitting Wednesdays out if it’s down to Gilmore or Orphan Black 😞

Steven Winthrop

Shorter is the way to go IMO. Gilmore Girls is fine but not much for a reactor to really… react to in a meaningful way if that makes sense lol

Steven Winthrop

and if we could recommend shows outside the poll I'd say The Good Place because of kristen bell, and Being Erica because it is a canadian show, i love them both, and they both have wacky vibes and fun and feels, she would like them very very much, i just dont think Being Erica has that many fans to configure a good slot placement, but she definitely should watch it (if she hasnt already)

Lais

the good place is the best replacement for VM because of Kristen Bell, and I was surprised it wasn't in the poll, i thought maybe darcie wanted to watch it by herself or have seen it already, because it is the actual obvious next show

Lais

Well I'm screwed either way bc I either don't care for or haven't seen the shows that were most popular on the poll so I'll be showless when you finish Dollhouse... But I would still vote for shorter shows on Wednesday, that way maybe I won't have to wait years before coming back for a show I'm interested in 😬

madfem

Personally not interested in Gilmore girls, and would love The Good Place or Jessica Jones be an option for a mid length series. Maybe JJ could replace Agents of Shield tho since they r both marvel :)

x_Rhi_x

I just think the faster we start on Daredevil the better. Although Orphan Black is an excellent choice too.

Rileymetal

I mean, if that happens, that's fair. I'm just a little biased, because I tried Orphan, and couldn't get into it, and I didn't really watch VM, so it means Wednesday will probably continue to be a hole in my Darcie schedule.

James B.

I have seen it. And I very much don't like it.

Matthew Shields

Haha 100%! I'll just be watching something randomly and there'll be a moment and I could already picture her reaction or something she'd say in response to it lol

TheLoungingPotato

im like this with most shows or when she says something like "ohh i love this", i think of tv shows she could watch based on that comment lol

Lais

it is fair, it did indeed won the poll, if she decides to go with it, it would be fun

Lais

"but i think, by the end of the day, whichever show you pick, everyone would be excited to watch along with you," Let's not be too rash here. Some people have limits of what they're willing to endure for some Darcie content 🤣

SunnydaleClassof99

I don't think there is a rule, but i think it diminishes the experience of a whole show... otherwise she could just put one show every day of the week and next week change shows... i don't think that's a good experience for her or for us

Lais

i dont think it is a good compromise as it wasnt even on the poll... but i think tmmm could go up after orphan black because they're both short if she watches both shows back to back it wouldnt even be as long as if she watched gg

Lais

i dont know if you ever watched Gilmore Girls, but it is very close to your description of other shows darcie has been watching, it may not be adventurous, but it is a show about women and made by women, it is nice and comforting, and i do think she will like it a lot but I still think the fairest thing to do is to go with orphan black and then maybe when it is over revisit the idea of gilmore girls

Lais

if by any chance you decide to go forward with gilmore girls, I don't think anyone would be mad, it is a good show and it would be pleasant to watch together, BUT you said it yourself that it was supposed to be a shorter show, and i think this is the point of the wednesday slot (although I'm new here) i myself voted for various shows, including gilmore girls, because it is great, yes, but i think it would be fairer(?) to go with orphan black first, its shorter and newer, plus it would end sooner and by then your schedule could change and you could fit gilmore girls in another slot or whatever else you'd like to do but i think, by the end of the day, whichever show you pick, everyone would be excited to watch along with you, no worries

Lais

Well that sucks, lol. Y'all knew that this was supposed to be for a shorter show and yet here we are. I for one would want GG on another day replacing another longer show. We should keep Wednesday's at a faster rotation IMO.

Bastion33

If you decide not to tie yourself up with another long show on Wednesday I think the fairest option is to add Orphan Black to Wednesday & have Gilmore Girls replace AOS when it ends. Orphan Black finished second after GG in the poll & it's second place spot was achieved by a wide margin. Plus it's only 50 episodes long. Also I really don't want another poll 😂 I know there's some debate about other Marvel things that could tie in to AOS being reacted to. If you add those it could be three years before GG. I know Marvel content is huge but that's an awfully long time to wait for a poll winner.

SunnydaleClassof99

I second that!

DaniJay

I don't love Gilmore Girls, but I know it won. What about doing split Wednesdays?? Gilmore Girls plus another, shorter show.... alternate them

Becky Mitchell

So down for some Orphan Black. Especially since it is more in-line with the shows Darcie has been reacting to. Adventurous tales, mostly about women, with a sci-fi or supernatural edge to it. And before anyone points out the obvious, Veronica and Keith's relationship is the closest thing I've ever seen to super nature in my lifetime.

Matthew Shields

Ooh, that’s a great idea!

Amanda

I'm for GG. But if you're going to alter course, the compromise, to me, would be to do The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It's relatively short and the showrunner is the same showrunner as Gilmore Girls, so the voice of the show is nearly identical (kind of like how Whedon shows are similar).

James B.

Gilmore Girls is not for me so I *personally * wouldn't be mad if it didn't happen, but I mean, it did win the poll, so... Can I ask, is there any rule that says you have to do all of a show none stop? Is there anything to be said for, say, alternating seasons. It would mean GG would be around even longer but it would also allow other stuff to get a chance. It wouldn't even need to be particularly long gaps, if you alternate with the #2 in the poll, which has short runs. Just a thought as to a maybe palatable compromise?

Paflad

My vote was for Orphan Black (which came in second I believe). It is 5 seasons, but only 10 eps a season (so only a total of 50 eps). I don’t think a show this long is unreasonable as opposed to the 154 eps of Gilmore Girls. I like Gilmore Gils but it is a big commitment.

Peta D

I’m in the same boat as never watched it but have recently gotten Netflix so plan to watch eventually but most likely wouldn’t be ready to watch as a reaction yet plus I do enjoy the idea of keeping one slot more mid sized & interchangeable for shorter durations.

Ben

Personally, I love Gilmore Girls, it’s one of my all time favorites (watched over 30 times since I discovered it in middle school) and I’d love to see Darcie react to it, but I’d also be okay if Wednesday ends up being for mid-sized series as long as Gilmore Girls still gets to be the next big show. That being said, I also like the option of doing one season of Gilmore, one season of something else, so it keeps things moving. Another thought I had was that maybe because of the type of show Gilmore is (more slice of life and funny with touches of drama rather than super dramatic or action-packed) you could do double reactions? Like two episodes back to back so it wouldn’t take as long to get through. I don’t know if logistically that would work for your schedule, but it was just a thought. And potentially you could always just start the series and then based on how it feels decide after a bit if you want to switch it up.

Kira Peters

Just a suggestion, Why not have a day devoted to movies. Possibly even just once or twice a month.

Eric Haefele

It's a tough call, because so many voted, but I like the idea of having shows with fewer seasons that can be swapped out more regularly. That does eliminate several good shows that are over 4 seasons, but the sacrifice opens the door to more shows getting seen.

Jaci

I’ve never seen Gilmore Girls and was planning on watching the episodes the weekend before you post them like I’m currently doing with your reactions to Charmed, but I think it’s a good idea to not watch too many longer shows concurrently. If another show does replace Gilmore Girls though, I think it's only fair that the next longer show to end should be replaced by Gilmore Girls without a poll.

Lime Pie

I love gilmore girls (literally its my fall-asleep show every night) so I def wanna see darcie watch it too, but if it really is too much trouble I guess mid-length gets my vote? I would just wanna know what the mid-length options are first... EDIT: what if we compromise and go with Ginny & Georgia!! that's gg vibes but far less commitment :D

Jayme

What happens if Gilmore Girls is usurped? Do they get penciled in for a couple years from now when AOS ends? 😵‍💫

SunnydaleClassof99

I've also never watched Gilmore Girls so I don't really have an opinion 🤷🏻‍♂️

James Allen

Gilmore Girls fans taking Ls so far in the comments so allow me to be the first dissenting voice & say don't take the hard earned win!

SunnydaleClassof99

I think mid length spot is smart. We'll get to Gilmore girls eventually.

Johnny Coleman

Just an idea, but what if you had two series running on Wednesdays, that switched out after every season. So, say you watch Gilmore Girls s1, then watch a mini series, then Gilmore Girls s2, etc etc. That way you don't get series burnout, and you can get around to other things that would otherwise be locked out.

James Allen

Personally I’d prefer the mid length slot to be that way, freshening up every year or so sounds like a solid plan to stick with If mid length does win out, perhaps it’s worth making lists of short shows, mid shows and long shows based on episode count in future (or having someone do it for you in case of spoilers)🙈 If it doesn’t then that’s okay, add it back in when you eventually can 😊

Emily Marshall

While 7 seasons is daunting, I've been rewatching the show and have had so many moments that have been like "Oh, Darcie is gonna love that line" or "Oh, she'll cry here for sure" Whatever you decide though, I get it <3
