CAPTIONS VERSION!!

dollhouse season 1, ep 5

Comments

To be clear, there isn't any episode of Dollhouse that I don't like. That being said, this is my least favorite. It has a lot of great moments, all of Topher and Doc Saunders scenes, always love watching Victor, but the main plot always feels a bit slow to me. Especially compared to the incredibly fast pacing of every other episode in the series. Still fun to rewatch though, even after like 20 or 30 times :P

I was never a fan of the cult aspect of this episode, but I like and appreciate the many small moments that move the plot forward and show us more of the characters' personality. Victor crushing on Sierra, Topher and Dr. Saunders having to work together, Dominic (tiny glasses guy) attacking and setting up Echo to die, Boyd going against orders to save Echo, Adelle proving her smarts by calling out Dominic's behavior and of course Echo's stare down at the end. Can't wait to see your reaction to the next episode.

I love how much you're loving this! Yes, heist episode was better, but they all have so many twists and things to make you think that even if you're not really a fan of the theme of the episode you still get so many nuggets that you want to keep watching. Also the agent helping our FBI guy, I believe that actress was also in a short lived CW show named 'cult' which is always fun to have her appear in this episode. Lol

Those moments where Echo says something or does something that makes you wonder what she might be aware of. That's part of what got me to look forward to each episode when it originally aired. They're better than any cliffhangers I've ever seen.

Great reaction, love the contemplating the intricacies. That's what this show, requires. Thinking about what is happening and what that can mean mechanically with dolls. (Mind control)

I totally agree with this, madfem, for what it's worth

I never noticed her last name. They might as well have called her Ester of Nazareth.

I liked this episode too. I thought Eliza did a good job with it. It isn't easy to play someone blind. Really enjoying someone reacting to this because when I just watched the whole thing a couple of months ago for the very first time, I was transfixed.

Next episode is where it really starts

David Murray

I think these early episodes are really good in their own right. I don't see why they would deter people from watching. You can tell there's a bigger story being told in the background - especially if you know Joss Whedon's work.

madfem

Yes. It's pretty much the last stand alone "what character am I this week" episodes.

CatSib

This is the last episode that I ever worry that people wont get it with this show - time to join the hype train
