I'm so excited that you're doing Firefly! What fun!

Jude D'Westmacott

Oh man thank you! I enjoyed Firefly but I never got the hype for it. People talk like it's the greatest show ever and I just don't see it, it only had one season, Imo a show should have at least 3 seasons to be considered.

Pauline Robertson

I think fanedits with deleted scenes cut back in are terrible for first watches. I don't like it here, and I don't like it for the Marvel movies. It's consistently jarring, and ruins the pacing.

As long as folks are weighing in on the extra scenes, thumbs down for me. Also not wild about them translating the bursts of Chinese. It's true that without these extras it can be a bit harder to understand what's going on. But I feel like it's more rewarding to figure out the context than to have it handed to us. Though I will admit that the second extra scene, between Book and Zoe is a pretty decent piece of writing. But enough about that. So glad Darcie is doing this series. There are so many episodes and scenes I can't wait for her to see! Also a bit of casting trivia. Shepherd Book is played by Ron Glass. Viewers who were old enough to have been watching TV in the late '70s excited to see him, because he played a very different character in the classic '70s sitcom "Barney Miller."

Out of the 4 main Joss Whedon shows, Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, and Firefly, this is last for me personally. I’ve never been into westerns. I still like it and it’s a lot of fun with some great characters but I’d still rather watch any of the other 3 shows ahead of it. I think that’s an unpopular opinion but oh well. I’ll still watch along with you though.

That's fair, but at the same time if you're a first time viewer then you don't know what the show would feel like without the deleted scenes. Not to mention the information you're talking about *is* given to us elsewhere in the show, just not all at once in a big info dump. The beauty of this show is not just the amazing story, but also the tight and interesting editing, the ability to tell us the story through actions and not monologues. Including the deleted scenes cheapens the experience because you lose the slow subtle storytelling that makes this show stand out from the rest. Having them in there isn't like, going to ruin the show or suddenly turn it into a bad show -- it's a great show either way. But it takes away some of the magic (magic that you won't even know you're missing if you've never seen the intended cut of the show)

Quiver

Idk what the complaints are about but as a first time viewer with you Darcie- I enjoyed the extra scenes and info. Helped me care more.

The Oracle Witch

Seeing as how she’s Canadian, that makes sense. I’m guessing those shows were indeed filmed in Canada.

Good eye spotting the “interesting shot” in the scene with Mal and Badger (side note: the actor playing Badger shows up in about a thousand shows). There are bunch of unusual shots in this episode. I recall seeing an interview with one of the cinematographers (?) who said they broke of bunch of accepted rules of cinematography in this show. Use of zooms, odd framing, and so forth. For instance, there are several places in this episode where they’ve set up the shot so that the person speaking has part of their head out of frame. It’s something to keep an eye out for in the future, if that sort of thing is of interest.

Okay so we've gotta give you some names to faces: The fed Lawrence Dobson is played by Carlos Jacott - He played Ken in S3E01 "Anne" of Buffy, the guy who lured homeless teens into the hell dimension to spit them back out all old'n'stuff. He also played Richard Straley on Angel, the demon that Doyle's ex Harry was going to marry until he went and tried to eat his brain. The Alliance captain at the beginning is Andy Umberger. He played the gross ass detachable limbs doctor in S1 of Angel, but more importantly, he played Anya's boss D'Hoffryn in Buffy. Blessed be the name D'Hoffryn. River (popsicle queen) is played by Summer Glau. J*ss first worked with her on the horniest Angel episode "Waiting in the Wings" S3E13, where she played the Prima Ballerina cursed to repeat the same performance forever. As far as Morena Baccarin goes, for some reason I don't want to spoil the biggest thing she's in even though it has absolutely nothing to do with your journey? But she WILL be part of another journey you're on. BUT SINCE YOU'RE A BATMAN GIRLY, you might recognize her from Gotham if that was a thing you Goth'd. And as a bonus, Jewel Staite (Kaylee) was in lots of Nickelodeon/Disney Channel type shows in the mid-90s........ not sure what your entertainment vibes were around that point but they have the feeling of Canadian shows bought on the cheap to redistribute in the states lol. The ones I watched as a kid were Flash Forward and the ORIGINAL Firefly: Space Cases. Neither received Emmy's.

Brian Harrington

Oof, not a fan of the weird AI upscaled deleted scenes :/ I think they were deleted for a reason, the pacing is all off. Hope you find a regular copy for future episodes! But otherwise, I'm so hyped for Firefly!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Quiver

My favorite scene of the series is probably the priest receiving benediction from "the whore." It's nice and artsy fartsy.

James B.

Kinda agree. At the same time, though, I really liked the scene with the doctor and Zoey. On the first viewing you never realize, or at least I didn't anyway, that the ship is named after the battle that Mal lost. I think it's a nice piece of exposition that sets up the whole show.

James B.

Didn't care for the extended scenes. I wish you had just watched the regular version and saved the extended for later.

Rileymetal

Yeah, it was a little jarring seeing footage included that didn't go through post production. It isn't a version I've seen either. It's interesting as a fan of the show, but I'm not sure what impact it will have on a first time viewing experience.

Omni

So so happy you are watching this show. It's one of my favourites. However this included scenes I have never seen before. What is this version? That unedited footage almost gave me a jumpscare.

Harriet Loughnan

I've never seen this show but it's always been on my list, excited to watch with you!

Alycia Ortiz

LET'S GO!!!!

Didn’t know this was happening.. HELL YEAH!
