NO LUCK NEEDED! Tensura (Slime Tensei) Season 3 Episode 21 Reaction! (UNCUT VERSION)

No problem just trying to explain. But I still welcome discussion.

Oh there was also a funny little moment they left out when the kids were having dinner with Rimuru and Hinata! It was brought up that if Masayuki wins the final tomorrow, Rimuru will have to fight him so the kids were discussing who would win. 3 voted for Rimuru and 2 for Masayuki! But then they moved on to Hinata and all 5 kids thought Hinata would beat Masayuki hahaha they did not think anyone could beat their 'big sis' Hinata! Rimuru did not like the equation that was developing (Hinata >>>> Rimuru >= Masayuki) so he took a lil jab at Hinata saying that, unlike a CERTAIN SOMEONE, Masayuki would probably want to talk it out first and listen to what Rimuru has to say LMAO Hinata got mad and was like "you wanna fight? I'm right here." So Rimuru apologized by handing over his pudding XD

Ohhh okay I gotcha, I guess I wasn't sure if you wanted the questions you asked to be answered or were just wondering out loud or something. My bad!

I did some research into the Four Heavenly Kings origins. That is the original: shiten'nou. "The Four Heavenly Kings are protectors of Buddhism who guard against evil forces from the four directions. They include Jikokuten (east), Zōchōten (south), Kōmokuten (west), and Tamonten (north). Tamonten is sometimes worshipped independently under the name of Bishamonten." "The term "Four Heavenly Kings" or Shiten'nou was used in Japan as a title for the four strongest and most loyal vassals of various famed warlords, including Minamoto Yorimitsu, Takeda Shingen, and Tokugawa Ieyasu." The "mythological Four Divine Beasts of Si Ling, common in China and Japan", may also be relevant.

I do know what happens later, generally, but it's a long time since I read it. Usually when I make theories that I state publicly, if I don't put the word Spoiler on it, it's one where I think it can be supported with current knowledge only. I try to ignore what we aren't supposed to know. It's possible I am influenced, but I try to ask myself if I am basing anything on the future. If so, I try to eliminate that part.

LN SPOILER ............................................. Myst, I like a lot of the questions you are asking and this certainly is a weird case because, as you said, Unique skills are born from the desires of otherworlders as they cross between worlds, but this does not seem to be the case for Masayuki acquiring Chosen One. However, I think there may be a factor that you are overlooking about Masayuki's character. We learn it much later on and it may or may not make Masayuki basically pre-determined to be a Hero whether he likes it or not. So, the system may not be responding to MASAYUKI'S conscious will, but perhaps some other force at play here?

Daniel Meissner

Good catch Zach, I did not pay enough attention to the actual dialogue apparently!

Daniel Meissner

The subtitles changed the names of the bull and horseman but the japanese dub actually did say Gozu and Mezu I believe

Soka was amazing today. I assume Soei would be the 4th strongest but like you said he's supposed to be a secret.

I saw it trail off, and despite what that might have meant, I thought it shouldn't be included. It obviously meant more of something. You're also bringing in the idea that the Skill was using him. That rings a bell in something I wrote recently, because I theorized that the name Chosen One indicates that the world or the Skill itself is doing the choosing. I think it was Luminus who said in Ep. 12, referring to Gren, and I can't remember exactly how she put it, but she said something like, Heroes are always at the mercy of fate. .......................................................................................... This is in contrast to how most people's desires define what Skills they get. Is this the System: 1. overriding a person's wishes to give Masayuki that Skill? 2. Aligning with his wishes in an unusual way? It might be relevant to point out here, that although Masayuki has to take certain attitudes and/or actions to activate the Skill, it wasn't like when others' Skills were acquired. It's as if he already has that Skill, he didn't go through any process of receiving that Skill from WotW. It was just unlocked in steps. 3. Receiving the Skill in a normal desire-fulfillment-based way, but the Skill then acts in an unusual way? Maybe the desire he is demonstrating that triggered the acquisition of the Skill was not wanting to be Heroic, but simply "going with the flow". However, this desire conflicts with being truly Heroic, because that ultimately requires "stepping up". Or do all heroes consent to go with the flow, especially if fate is involved? .................................................................................... I think I successfully twisted myself into knots here. One thing we saw Masayuki do here was to proactively use the Skill, and take a bit of control back, although the action he took reinforced the passive effects of the Skill.

Given the name of the subskill, I do think it has an effect on the actions they take. When we are first introduced to that subskill in the novels, see how at the end of the explanation the sentence trails off? They did not fully explain the skill to us there. In my interpretation, the skill does guide the user. The skill uses the user as much as the user uses the skill. We see this in how Masayuki has been groomed to just 'go with the flow' thinking that the skill will just take care of all of his problems for him. He has been conditioned by how effective the skill is and until the skill finally does not work, Masayuki is pretty much at its mercy.

Daniel Meissner

The Big Four (and all alternatives), seems pretty cringe to Rimuru, too, but he was trying to distract his strongest from entering the competition. Maybe he could have ordered them not to enter, but I guess Rimuru felt he needed to make them happy about it, since he was depriving them of such a big treat (as fighting).

When I first read about the Heroic Action function of Chosen One, I thought they way they phrased it "The user's activities are all the first steps to becoming a champion." meant that people would perceive him as a champion more and more, especially in light of the charm aspect of his Skill. It felt like a huge realization when I started thinking that its purpose might even be to make him into a real champion, or even Hero, bringing in his party as well. It's like a training program for Heroes. I didn't see it as altering fate. I saw that as part of the luck aspect, but I guess that is also fate. In my head they have slightly different meanings.

myst0dreamer

I didn't get into the name issue because when I researched the names back when they were introduced, I learned that there are traditional Japanese monsters called Gozu and Mezu who act as a pair at the exit to Japanese Hell. Also they appear in Chinese mythology. They are equine and bovine creatures. So I took it as a sort of indirect translation for Western or native English speakers, who wouldn't get the references. I think someone from Indonesia I was talking to once referred to them as another name or species so I questioned him. He were using creatures from his own mythology to refer to them. Bull/horse pairings must be pretty common in folklore across the world. After that, I started thinking there might be more meaning in these names than I knew about. I looked up Orthrus, Echidna, and Cerberus, and I found out these three are related in Greek mythology. Echidna is the mother of Cerberus and Orthrus.

myst0dreamer

Also did you notice they completely changed their names in the anime???? In the novels they are called Gozul and Mezul lmao like it isn't even remotely close! I know the details that you are referring to about their skills and it has great significance for their role in the labyrinth so surely once the labyrinth is opened they'll talk about it? Hopefully? Yeah, Chosen One is much more broken than I think people realize. You mentioned how it makes others perceive anything he does in the best possible way, but an equally broken part of it is the subskill 'Heroic Action'. This guides the actions of the user and his comrades down the path of becoming heroes, and basically leads to the best case scenario for them. This is essentially the fate manipulation that Rimuru mentioned after seeing the lots that were drawn for tourney matchups. This subskill combined with the "luck" in combat that 'Hero's Blessing' provides is said to nearly double the abilities of the Hero's allies. In terms of empowering an army, this skill is a buffed up version of Benimaru's Generalissimo. It is wild.

The opportune moment when he is bribed!

The fight between Bovix and Equix was missing a lot of the details and significance it has in the LN. People complain about too much detail in the meetings, but then they seem to always skimp on the fight scenes. At least the part you can't see. First Rimuru named Bovix because he wanted to put him in the Labyrinth, and had to name Equix to keep things fair. He tried to hold back his magicules, but they both evolved to new races, tauroid and centoid. Then they got Skills as a result of their evolutions. But they left out some things that, once again, I don't know if they will fill in later, or they just decided they didn't need to say any more. But Bovix alluded to the omitted part when he mentioned the Skill he was gifted by Rimuru. Maybe they are awaiting next week. ..................................... Judging from what I saw on a livestream today, a lot of people have forgotten that the Skill Chosen One has four parts. It's not just luck, or even charm. The audience sees everything he does and interprets in the best light, for instance. ................................................................ I can't think of anything else for the moment.

hahaha yeah Gobta was sleeping and Rigur pounced on the opportunity to recommend him! I think Rigur genuinely believes in Gobta as well, so it is a pretty wholesome recommendation actually.

Daniel Meissner

Soka gives real idol vibes this episode, she's so cute!! The translation in the novels for the 'Elite Four' is usually just the 'Big Four' or the 'Four Heavenly Kings' which is pretty cringe but it is the kind of epic sounding name the people of the Tensura world eat up hahaha The reason Souei is not part of the Elite Four is because that is a very public group meant for demonstrating Tempest's strength and occasionally handling political matters. Souei is the leader of Tempest's spy and intelligence organization named Kurayami (Shadow Squad). They mentioned that in the novels as well during the meeting where Rimuru created the Elite Four but left it out here. We have yet to see what Gobta the GOAT is truly capable of!!!! He merely hides his overwhelming strength for the opportune moment XD

Daniel Meissner

The reason why a ninja, Soka, is being the emcee is because she is disguised when she does her spy duties, and Souei thought they need one person in the organization to do public relations. Souei's not in the Big Four because it's too public a position for the head of an intelligence organization. Hakurou, in that vein, had already promised to spend time with his daughter. One of the reasons Gobta was chosen was because Gobta had been asleep at the time.
