Today I’ll be very brief, since I just have a quick question regarding future updates!

Here's the thing:
How would you feel about having to choose between two girls (once the relationship with them both has been already established) for a lewd scene? The scenes would be mutually exclusive, meaning you can pick one or the other, but that choice wouldn’t affect the romantic path with the girl you didn’t choose. It would only impact this one scene (and maybe a few future dialogues), so future intimate moments with either girl would still be possible.
In short, something like the werewolves/vampires choice in 0.8, but featuring gallery lewd scenes instead. (Also, keep in mind the gallery would show both scenes unlocked after watching them in any playthrough in any case).
I could make it possible to view both scenes in a single playthrough, but this might affect the pacing, maybe making things feel a bit rushed. Of course, if you prefer that option, I’ll do my best to make things flow smoothly, no worries!

I like the idea of having to choose, but I also know that I'd suffer from crippling fomo if there was a major scene that I had to miss out on, especially if the choices are two girls that I'm especially fond of (*cough* Annie and Luna *cough*). Anyway, I would probably prefer getting both scenes in one playthrough ON THE CONDITION that it doesn't negatively impact the story. E.g., the timeline/continuity gets messed up just to cram both in there. If it presents a hefty logistical challenge, then by all means, only allow one scene. There's my two cents. 😅

As much as I like the spiciness of having to choose, the game hasn't been set up that way in all the previous updates so it would be a little out of the blue to start that now. That being said, anybody can just load a save and choose the other option to see what happens. So I guess it doesn't matter in that regard.

Choose 1 per playthrough but both scenes unlock in the gallery. Then players like me can go and watch it whenever we want and players who don't want to interrupt the flow of the story can just ignore it.

2025-03-08 19:57:19 +0000 UTCI really like the concept of letting the player choose between one or the other (while still allowing them to view the other scene in the gallery) on account of it sort of emphasizing your relationship with one or the other, which I think is just fun in concept, particularly if we DO get a few special lines out of it from said character. I am an enjoyer of the canon harem, but the concept of getting closer to one of them in particular during certain scenes still holds great appeal to me, personally. (It's Luna, I want to pick Luna @ every opportunity, thanks)

In the other hand, include the two scenes in the same timeline is not going to be frustrating for anyone. I'm with JuicyParadox on this one, it would really upset me to have to save the game and reload to watch all the scenes, it would break the immersion... (I'm still so glad to play this game, thanks for the amazing work !! :) )

2025-03-06 14:03:06 +0000 UTCOkay Caribdis, I love your game and I begged, but seeing the way the poll is going I'm kinda afraid of the result, so let me try to put into reasonable words why forcing the players to choose between one lewd scene or another is, in fact, a bad idea: 1. This forces the MC and the player to choose which girl they prefer, while at least the MC shouldn't play favorite between his girls. Especially since all the girls are great. 2. If some players want to "feel" like their choices matter, you can do it for every other scenes that aren't lewd scenes, like with Penny and Luna with the werewolves/vampires. This way, the players who want to feel like their choices matter will, without punishing people like me who really don't care and just want to have fun following your story and watch the lewd scenes in peace, without having to get out of the story to save then reload to see a scene... 3. For some players, this is frustrating as heck to miss a scene while you're on a girl's path. Most players will just save scum and/or make a mod to be able to watch all the scenes. Therefore, while forcing a choice might be better for the pacing in theory, it wouldn't be in practice because people who want to watch all the scenes will just manipulate the pacing. All in all, for lots of player, it would either add frustration (because we'd miss the scenes) or some players will have to actively manipulate the pacing anyway (to see all scenes), except it will ask more efforts from them AND it won't be as good. I personnally trust you more to handle the pacing of your (fantastic) story rather than any modder. 4. Forcing a choice would not only add frustrations to some players, it would also sacrifice some suspension of disbelief anyway because like I said most of the players will end up "cheating" to see all the scenes. This will make a playthrough less "smooth" than if we can just see all the scenes naturally following the flow of the story. 5. There's also the sacrifice of character developpment here. Imagine if we had to choose between a Penny scene or the Luna scene in the vamp/werewolves server. How much character developpement we're losing for Luna ? That's the same for every scene. Lewd scenes shows the "evolution" of the bond between MC and the girls. Missing scenes with girls is a big missed opportunity to develop that for a girl. So when and if they get scenes together, they won't be at the same "level" with the MC. 6. You'll end up having to create the scenes anyway. Why waste it by forcing the player to choose between one or another ? Isn't the players not being on a path or another already affecting the pacing ? You make an effort to create fantastic scenes already, please let the players enjoy them "naturally" instead of having to save scum or mod the game for it. 7. There's enough games where you have to sacrifice a lewd scene for another. Eternum is one of the only one where you actually don't have to do that. That's one of the reason why it's so good too. I understand the desire to "feel like choices" matter (the argument used by lots of people who made the second choice here), but like I said you could do that for literally every other scenes that aren't lewd ones... and honestly if people want to feel like their choices matter, they can close the paths, like I said. 8. Consider that almost 50% of the player don't want to have to have to sacrifice a lewd scene for another. Like I said, I understand the desire of others to decide, but please do consider keeping that for any other scenes, like you did with the vamp/werewolve thing. Letting the player choose between different normal scenes, that end up changing some renders and dialogues, would be less frustrating than sacrificing lewd scenes with girls. It would also help you handle the pacing. The decision to not romance one of the LI should be the only one that prevent lewd scenes with said LI... 9. We, the player, are working our ways to get with the LIs. I find it incredibly unfair to miss a scene with one of the LI we worked towards to during the game and the story. If people want to miss scenes, they just have to close their path. I'm sorry, but forcing a player to choose while they've been working towards all the LIs feels like an undeserved punishment, for the player, the MC, and for the girl that's not chosen. 10. All in all you're sacrificing some suspension of disbelief and character developpement, frustrating a lot of players, forcing them to save scum or make mods on their own so they can watch all the scenes anyway (and people absolutely will do that), force the MC to play favorites, prevent some players from watching scenes you've put efforts into, and make lots of people feel punished. I don't see this being a win for anyone. The pacing would be better handled by you than any other modder, and people who like to feel like their choices matter could have that with any other scenes that aren't lewd ones (or hell they can even close a path if they really want to "decide" to miss lewd scenes...). So yeah, not to talk for the people here, but Caribdis, please, do not force us to choose between different lewd scenes. Just please.

2025-03-06 12:47:10 +0000 UTCFor what it’s worth, I’m generally of the opinion to let the dev do what they think is best (especially when they are arguably one of the best in the biz), but I suppose this is a subject for which I’m willing to break my “don’t comment” rule. Typically, if the decision is over something like the Vamps vs. Wolves choice, then I have no issue with that as it can give the player a sense of agency in how the larger narrative develops and plays out in the game. I do tend to draw a line though when it comes to choosing one lewd scene over another in a playthrough. While I know it is an easy fix to just save scum and play out the other scene to unlock it in the gallery, I truly loathe doing that as I feel it completely removes myself from the immersion of the story. It may sound greedy, but I do not want to have to make those choices since I want the MC to have the full harem experience (without any asterisks or hand waving of “it can still be unlocked in the gallery”). If given the choice, I would pick a slightly rushed scene(s) a million times over if it means being able to access/view all the lewds in a single playthrough. Ultimately, this is just one person’s humble opinion, and I know whatever option is chosen, the game will still be straight fire. Caribdis, you are truly a master of your craft, so go ahead and cook, and perhaps I’ll comment again in another 3 years 😂 Keep up the exceptional work!

I think there’s a way to break it up based off of preference, but it seems like this was all leading to one “holy moly is this really happening with them all” scene. Though I leave it to the artist’s (your) discretion.

It always felt weird to me to have a dev put effort into a scene, just to miss it, since I'm not one to replay games most of the time. Then again, I'm alright with being able to essential skip scenes, if it's with a girl I do not like. But in Eternum's case, I don't have the desire to skip content with any girl. I do like them all.

This is the highest quality product in its class, in my opinion, because not only are the visuals top tier but the story is also fascinating and the characters have depth and growth. So you do whatever keeps that going. But, if there's going to be a scene choice like that, then perhaps just give us a warning so that we know we're missing something and can save first in order to go unlock the other scene as well. And of course since this has already been very permissive in terms of the women accepting the harem-theme, as long as that doesn't change too much before we get close to the end. If it did change toward the end and we had to have a few separate playthroughs / saves to get the multiple endings, that's fine.

This come from proofreading and debugging so many other games, but I appreciate you enthusiasm to do the right thing 🤩. With 120 comments already, I am not even sure my post was necessary 😏.

Saved, played both choices through, ultimately chose the Werewolves for storyline reasons (they just seemed to playout more organically with the stories progress, and I liked the characters more.). Afterward I wished two things: 1) that I would have gotten to see Penny's solo experiance with allying the Vamps. (Or conversely Luna's with the Wolves, though I'm not sure that would have played out as well.) 2) That I could have done both, I did like the Vamps, but I also liked the time spent with Penny. Ultimately that is what I was most frustraited by, the choice was not Wolves vs Vamps, it was Luna vs Penny, and in a Harem game, one should not be forced to favor one lover over the other.

It's bad enough I caught up to current and have to wait for more content. Making the play through take longer would be awesome. I'm a little bummed that that option is not winning. I played through both of the vampire/wolf scenes, and wished I didn't have to choose one or the other for a single game save. Even though it doesn't affect the overall feelings and story which one I chose, I really liked both options individually, and wished they were both part of the same save. I ended up sticking with wolves for the main save. But it made me feel like I was missing out. IDK just my two cents.

Having said that I know I'll rewind the save and check out the other! lol And somewhat on the other side, the pacing to me has always seemed excellent so I don't think a 'brake tap' will do any harm at all even though I voted the other way.

Maybe you can make 2 days event in game with option to choose which scene to do first but the second scene is available the next day. The dialogue will change slightly based on which scene you chose to do first. But ultimately both scenes are available in single playthrough.

Yes you can do multiple play throughs to unlock the scene, but personally I like all my wonderful ladies in my harem to be equally happy. I dislike choosing between any of these perfectly gorgeous woman. You are an amazing story teller I'm sure whatever you do it will be amazing, and I'm eagerly awaiting future content. I'm going to throw my hat in with the 'chose one or the other'. A little branching would be a good thing for Eternum. Many of us have a ranking and favor certain girls over others, making the choice to be with the one you like a little better will feel good. Unlocking both scenes in the gallery is also a fine compromise to not stress out the "one playthrough only" crowd. And while it would most likely stress your amazing animator it would also be good to make sure the scenes are truly different, not just the same animations/positions with different 'skins'

I voted for choice because I read between the lines that you feel like that's the smarter choice and I trust your judgement. That said, I'm fine either way. I understand the reluctance because of FOMO, but IMO that just improves the game because making choices - especially meaningful feeling choices - is a good game experience (even if the feeling of missing out looms over). You could always choose door number 3 and not choose one over the other, instead giving the option to experience both at once, or delay one (maybe have Orion/? fantasize about the other option so you can see both and only choose one?) I really hope this is somehow helpful to you. Have a great life! :) :) :)

I feel it makes the decision to have branched paths for some gallery scenes.. adds more replayabilty to the game I reckon.. This was a great question Cari, love your work and looking forward to seeing it come to fruition in the next update mate

Give me the option up front, let the scene play out, and I'll view the alternate scene in the gallery or on a 2nd playthrough. I'd rather it feel like my choices matter, and either replay the game, or replay the scenes as desired. Just my standpoint, and I recognize others may disagree, but its still a great game regardless!

Obv you can save before and go back and replay it if you want to see the other choice, all while still keeping the integrity of the smoothness of the gameplay.

2025-03-05 09:14:12 +0000 UTCI get why you're concerned about pacing, and I also understand it could be interesting to have to decide, but I think the completionist in me just would like it much better if it would be achievable in one go, so the gallery isn't 'incomplete', as silly as that sounds as a reason for that.
