[0.10] - PROGRESS

So, uh, I'm replaying the whole VN from the start (it's a phase I go through every few months) mostly to straighten up my playlist of Eternum songs after finding Caribdis' 0.9 tracks the other week, and stumbled into a rabbithole that has me theorizing and I've nowhere else to go but here to post about it, so to anyone else obsessed with Cari's work and who'd like to read the rantings of a mad man, please proceed but be warned, spoilers ahead. So at the Reminscediscombobulator in Warthogs, I accidentally clicked 'Yourself' instead of 'Penelope' when the choice of whose memories to view arises, and lo and behold, Caribdis hid something there. It's brief and glitchy, but an image graces the screen of child Orion standing with the Founder in Eternum HQ (from 0.1 when Orion gives us the background of what Eternum is, the room with the giant hologram globe) with the Founder placing his hand on Orion's head. After that, the professor mentions nobody can see anything and asks if we received special training to guard our mind. What? Tack onto this my recent dive into the naming conventions Caribdis uses and my brain is back in theory mode. We're told that Idriel created the three weapons of Atlas (the titan who holds up the sky), being Hyas (in mythology, son of Atlas), Dione (often said to be the mother of Aphrodite), and Calypso (a nymph, also daughter of Atlas, lives in Ogygia, doomed to fall in love with those who can never stay with her). Beyond cool sounding names, I think Caribdis is hiding some things here. The MC's default name is Orion, which for this is important because in mythology, Orion was a hunter who killed Hyas. Also, in myth, Orion was said to be extremely handsome but lustful to the point of pursuing the sisters of Hyas and Calypso so... Yeah, apt name for the MC. Now Dione on the other hand, is the mother of Aphrodite who in turn is the mother of Eros (who Orion dressed up as for Halloween, meaning Caribdis is well aware who Eros is), who is the husband of Psyche, who is brought up in the Rockefeller Gala. The whole syndicate asking "can a man become a god?" thing. Interesting point here, but Psyche herself in myth was mortal before marrying Eros and then betraying him, only for her husband to forgive her and help her become a god. Also fun fact, their union created the goddess of pleasure, Hedone, which is where we get the word Hedonism from. Psyche also means "Soul" either in reference to life or to the dead who have passed on. The Roman word Anima (as in 'the Radiant') also means "Soul" or "Life-Force" so there's a definite, purposeful connection there between Psyche and Anima the Radiant. All of this has the gears in my brain turning. Does this mean that Anima is Psyche who may also be the imprisoned true Idriel? Idriel mentions being unable to die as the scariest thing in existence, is this from experience as Psyche having been granted immortality? Does this make the Founder Eros? If the image of him and child Orion actually happened, is he our real dad? Are we... Hedone (this one's way out there, I know)? But then why is the Founder pursuing the Gems of Doom (or GoDs for short?)? Unlocking the Gates of Acheron can (presumably) make a man a god based on everything we've been told, Acheron in mythology being the river entering the underworld that souls must pass through. Having the gates closed would presumably prevent souls passing on, so why does the Founder want through? Then there's the whole Idriel chained in Limbo (which in greek mythology is the fields of asphodel which would be beyond the Acheron, but before Elysium or Tartarus, aka heaven or hell). All of this is a bunch of loops and chains of things that come aggravatingly close to making some sense but just don't fit together in a perfect way... It's both aggravating and exhilarating. If you read this far, before you ask, yes, I'm okay. My every day life just leaves a lot of 'quiet time' for my brain to overthink things (plus theorizing in my head makes time go faster at work). Feel free to reply that I'm crazy or your own theory or whatever... EDIT: Throwing this in here, another weird note on the Greek mythology part of things, in the flashback to Orion leaving England in 0.6, right before the Annie scene, Orion's father says to tell "Nancy, Talia, and Persephone' he says hi. At first, yeah, drunk dad misremembering names, but specifically saying Talia, mythologically speaking one of the muses, and Persephone, daughter of Demeter and husband of Dis/Hades. Bit weird your dad uses two Greek names that are not common in modern times practically at all... Lends credence in my brain to something weird going on with Greek mythology here. Also, also, something weird Idriel says when mentioning that the being unable to die is the worst thing for a soul (paraphrased), she said "He did" in reference to someone else fearing death previously. Presumably the Founder, but adding another layer of questions as to why he wants the Gems of Doom (unless they do not in fact open the Gates of Acheron and instead merely bestow true immortality to someone? But then why mention the Gates at all in the quest for the Gems, why not just leave them as 'macguffins' to decide the next owner of Ulysses? That would be incentive enough for most people to seek them out without having a strange 'in-game' quest tied to opening some doors that nobody seems to know anything about.)

i just finished 0.9, playing in two parts yesterday and today. Let's just say i did not get much done at work today because Eternum was literally all i could think about lol. The ability to feel this sense of genuine anticipation and excitement is something i believed I had lost growing up, and experiencing it again through your art makes me more grateful than i could possibly put into words. In theory, it is possible. It would require quite substantially more neural modification than a simple chip, as it would require either remote modification of the processing centres of the brain, or substituting input to the receptors. We are already seeing progress towards the latter of these goals in the form of prosthetics development, with basic-level replacement of sensory input in the early stages of R&D. However we are almost certainly still several decades, if not a century or two, away from anything like what the in-game Eternum purports to be.

i absolutly love this game. i've played through what i have now 4 times. it has a great story line. i often wonder if sience in real life would ever come up with something like whats in this story. i know they already have vertual reality but this is beyond that. this is AI taking over the 5 sinces. making it seem like they are actualy there and not simulation. that would be cool.

Eternum is absolutely wild! Felt like I was stuck in Kredon for real. The story’s been fire so far—amazing pacing, great soundtrack, and packed with hilarious memes and netas (my favorite render is the Heist, The Stanley Parable also made my day). I’ve already played through it twice and I can’t stop thinking about the gals(Luna&Calypso&Alex yesyesyesyesyes) and the plot during the day lmao. Easily the best AVN I’ve ever played. I downloaded this game months ago and never even played it until recently. Once I started playing, I was astounded. Almost immediately this game pushed out my previous "Favorite Game Of All Time" and that game was replaced by this one and not by just a small amount either. Eternum is so well made that it brought my game benchmark to a whole new level. I do not believe I will ever look at games the same again. My new years resolution was to begin supporting this game so here I am.

Holy crap, dude. This game is stunning. Characters look great and are interesting, it's funny, it's thoughtful, scary/unsettling in places. The sex aspects are great (and they really are great), but I'd come back for the story alone, it's so good. The use of butterflies in the dreams (and other places in the game) to adorn and represent the dark woman and altar, or soul / Psyche, is interesting, as is the dressing of Orion as Eros, Psyche's mate or consort. Have you read Joseph Campbell's book "The hero with a thousand faces?" I wonder how Orion's journey to find "true love" will play out in the game, in parallel with the story of Psyche and Eros/Cupid...., and the "Hero's Journey" cycle... well done, Caribdis! A game with real thought behind it is always better!

I cant even remember how I found this game all I know is I started playing 1 day and now its all I wanted to do when I got home... As only one point of feedback, as a woman the weird blue nails for the main guy character especially during steamy scenes which has a focus on his hands is a huge turn off!! If this were any other game developer, i would be a bit upset at what seems like a new Patreon policy, where if you support someone on the final day of the month...well, you just got 1 day of content, and get charged the same price the next day, on the first of the month. But that is more about Patreon than any game studio etc. That out of the way...i want to say thank you for the MASTERPIECE that is Eternum thus far. I have enjoyed games from NLT, and other visual novels such as Leap of Faith, Lust Theory, and even The Lust City. My only humble suggestion & request is this: perhaps by/near the time you complete Eternum, would you consider putting it on Steam? I am sure you have your reasons why i do not see it nor Once in a Lifetime, but my reasons are this: 1) I feel it would give you some new fans and revenue stream 2) It is, thus far, the best visual novel i have encountered, and i have played through some damn good ones. I would love to see it have as much exposure as possible. and 3) I am sure many of your supporters would be happy to have the permanent copy, some achievements to work towards for the completionist in them, to know they found every scene, every image, every easter egg possible. I feel silly even calling this a "game" , it is much more like a refined, magnificent work of art. And who says you couldn't continue to offer it wherever, whenever, and at whatever price point you deem appropriate? A public release, but perhaps the finalized Steam version could have a bit of bonus content and/or offerings? Just something to chew on. I personally dislike seeing less noteworthy games raking in the dough on Steam. Eternum should have credit in this community among the best of the best. If there is some awards place for fans to vote for you, please point us there! ;)

Engrossing story-line with a host of endearing characters, as ever. There is a charming innocence in Caribdis stories that is highly addictive! I pause watching the novel between substantial updates so that I can experience the whole story from the start through “binge watching” (I prefer the description “immersive viewing” — I don’t consider that I “binge-read” books just because I can’t put them down). I have just finished 0.6.2 after taking a break after 0.3. I will re-watch the entire VN when there is sufficient additional story to play it all again!

Nooooooooo! I just finished Chapter 6, god damn you man LOL. You are a monster of cliffhangers lol. It's so crazy how well this game has progressed over time. Each chapter ends up setting a new bar every time. After playing your game, for the first time i felt that it is too good to be consumed for free, so i chipped in a little :). And yeah, everything in this game is great: story and sex events around it, world building, characters, visuals, but most importantly the animations! Not only they are masterfully made, every detail carefully created, every movement looks natural, but also they are impactful since they are only for the most important thing. I was skeptical on music being vital for the playthrough, but fortunately i was proved otherwise. And of course, girls are fantastic. Luna is my favourite :)

I have said this before but I will say it again, your storytelling is truly immersive, it goes deep with boundless layers that give an explosive richness to the MC and all other characters involved in the story. The music and sound effects you use to underscore your storytelling are amazing, and you always know how to leave us on dramatic cliffhangers, that leave you wanting for more. Your 3D animations are flawless and your renders are mindblowing. You use the right amount of humour to go along with your storytelling leaving your audience filled with the right amount of laughter to keep them happy. You have understood what it takes to pull on the right emotional heartstrings leaving your patrons wanting to come back for each episode you release. The only downside to all this is that we have to wait so long to find out what happens next.

When i got 0.5 it auto transferred from 0.4, i had both versions installed, then when i seen on both versions (i kept em seperate in the overall files) had my progress, i just uninstalled 0.4 stuff, and kept all progress on 0.5

Sorry if I splurge a bit here but I've just subbed, I haven't even finished the 0.2 content yet but I want you to know this game is amazing! As a bi girl I've noticed adult VNs for girls tend to be good at emotions and character-building, whereas ones built for guys are a lot better at the sex but the characters and story are usually flat as hell. You have absolutely nailed the best of both worlds. Already I've been laughing, terrified, literally in tears, and ofc very horny, and somehow with so much going on I've never felt bored of one part or like I'm just waiting for a different branch. The visuals are great, the soundtrack is great (fr every time a lyrical song comes on you know that scene is gonna hit hard one way or another), you never know what's coming next or even with who, I could go on... Idk I feel kinda weird for getting this passionate over an H-game but it shows how much you've put into this. Spaz over. Game is good

i played the latest version in one sitting a couple of days ago after looking for VNs online. I did not think i would find probably my favorite of these types of games. The story is amazing, id play the game even without all the sex scenes. Way more cinematic than i thought it was gonna be. And the music choice is fantastic. no spoilers but, there was a moment when you are learning magic with Penelope and you see a moment from their childhood. That part almost made me cry, that's when i knew this game was different. Also shout out for having Luna, im mexican so it was cool to see her in the game.

Heck even without the "adult" stuff this would stand on its own... only one nitpick [and I only caught it because I work for a gunsmith]... bullets coming out of barrels don't look like that. The slow mo of the sniper shot showed the bullet with the case still attached coming out of Dione [despite what Cave Johnson said in the Portal Sentry Turret ad, it doesn't work that way, though I guess that could be another pop culture reference... and she DID say fired with its cartridge]. Like I said, my only real nit pick, and thats cause I'm unrepentant gun nut. Keep up the great work

Okay... I have to say what a ride! I hardly ever played VN games before. After I discovered Eternum by "accident" I went onto playing it without much expectation thinking this kind of games, and especially in such a niche thematic, are never taken as serious artistic endeavour. And oh my God was I wrong! I could not believe how absorbing such an experience could be, every character is so attaching and realistic, the storyline is coherent, the humour is sharp and what can I say about the music... just perfect! So much so that I felt compelled to play in full honesty, with my heart as if it was real. Making the "wrong" choices hit hard in hindsight but it felt so true. I don't know how you pulled this off guys. I have a hard time believing there's only one person behind this project and if it is, then you are well on your way to become the "Founder" haha. You are the first project I started supporting on Patreon, despite all the outstandingly good content there is out there. Kudos to make me cross the chasm! Little funny anecdote, after a recent encounter with a nice gal (in the real world) which did not quite pan out exactly as expected, I swear I could see her turning greyed out in my mind :D

I recently got a new PC, so I ended up playing through the entire game from the start in order to experience the new content and... honestly, somehow the game was even more impressive and interesting than the first time I played. The story is very wish-fulfillment-y, but that's sorta a given with this type of game. Nevertheless, somehow in spite of this fact I've found every character incredibly interesting and charming. I share the sentiment of at least one other commenter that I'd like to see more of Dahlia, but the game still has lots of time to expand on her story and relationship with the MC.

Just finished playing all the way through for the first time. I wanted to say that, while what I think might've been the second chapter, the story arc involving Calypso's introduction, originally almost lost me, veered a bit too far into... I don't know how to describe it, into what felt like e-novel wish-fulfillment, everything else has been wonderful. I might even warm to it a bit more now, given the rest of the slow reveal about the true nature of Eternum has been drip-fed to me enough that I appreciate it more now than I did then, even though I mostly prefer other chapters' blend of real-life and game stuff. On a technical level, I like your jump cuts and use of very effective soundwork and music, especially for humor and punchlines. The romance was great, but I think it's how often I was genuinely made to laugh that really got to me most. You've got a great sense of chemistry, and I appreciate that all the girls mostly get along and are close enough friends that I can *almost* buy they'd be happy being one big family down the line, once the shock of their mutual fella seven-timing wore off. And I like their dynamics with Orion too. He's a bit of a cypher, but every individual character's romance felt unique, and sincere. I couldn't pick a favorite for sure, since they all have their ups and downs, but I admit that I found Luna *very* charming and appreciated her Dia de los Muertos story arc this release. And as to who I'd like to see more of, well, Dalia's a bit behind everyone else, but she got her big story arc with the gym competition, and with Alex on the bumper I think running into her here too is more than likely. I do kind of wish some intriguing in-game characters like Idriel or Calypso were planned to be included, but at the end of the day, I can't complain about who's already here. Also, while I was briefly worried it would be less than tasteful, everything with Chang has actually been handled reasonably well. I like that his weird charisma and misplaced sense of confidence actually works out for him sometimes as the story goes on, rather than just being the idiot who loses the trivia match, and his immediate love-at-first-sight romance with Micaela has been charming and cute, especially when Micaela herself, while the butt of a few jokes, is such a sweet and kind girl who deserves someone who loves her just the way she is. And while some of the antagonists are a bit... one-note, I do appreciate that Axel has been fleshed out a little, establishing that he's a product of his environment and giving him a bit of humanity in the form of undying love for a friend, even if said friend was a fellow scumbag. I did guess the last twist before the protagonist strung everything together, but that final montage was very effective, and I appreciate how many clues it brings up that I *did* miss. Looking forward to the new release, and to going back and playing your *other* game in the meantime! (I dunno what to say about the new release except that I'm lookin' forward to it and love Westerns, so I appreciate a seemingly planned visit to a Western-themed server.)

I recently replayed „Once in a Lifetime“ and completely forgot how much wellplaced humor it had, but also eerie and thrilling scenes. And Eternum feels the same, only with better art quality. You did a really good job of making the honey-select-engine-based characters look alive and unique. Your first game was already good, but Eternum is even better. Just out ouf curiosity. Are you keeping open the possibility that there might be a sequel to Once in a Lifetime at some point in the future? Not necessarily a story sequel, but perhaps an entirely new story in the same world with the same cast or part of the cast.

Honestly, I can imagine this to be part of my life for couple of years lol, like the characters grew quite close to my heart. I have to admit that I'm going to miss this whole project a lot when it's over. Some parts were a truly profound emotional experiences which took my breath away and looking forward for way more of those.

You've done such an amazing job not only with the animations but the story as a whole. I loved Once in a Lifetime and I couldn't get over how amazing the story is. Now with Eternum I actually feel like I've been thrust into this alternate version of Ready Player One but 30* better. Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what you have planned for the rest of the story.

Just started playing this game yesterday and honestly it's probably in my favorite to 5 games of alllllll time. The art is absolutely spectacular, animation is top notch, story is funny and exciting and even find myself getting giddy and emotional at times. Honestly amazing work and you have earned it with how amazing eternum is....now if only there was a game that could do this IRL that would be fantastic. Also love all the video game and pop culture and movie references truly a joy to play and you have earned every bit of my respect and I plan on supporting you as long as you keep making stuff as amazing as this....what we do in life echoes in eternity and this game embodies that. I can tell you put your heart and soul into making this.

You're not wrong, I played the 2.0 and 3.0 and each update always adds plenty of content. Some of the best story, art, animations and pretty much everything I've seen in all the adult games I've played, also really knows how to end each update on a good cliff hanger leaving you wanting more.
