This has a bit of an unfair advantage because it is basically a movie, but yes imo this is def the best first episode in anime! Ai making 208,000 yen in a month as a relatively popular idol is so depressing... That's only like $200 in the early 2000s.... The TV and Movie Director is absolutely hilarious in this ep! The one scene where Aqua is his creepy self on screen is SOOOOOOO good. The build up, payoff, and explanation are incredible! Man even with someone as beautiful as Ai, they still captured the ugliness of death so well, I simultaneously hate and respect them for it
