Buffy The Vampire Slayer 3x03 “Faith, Hope & Trick Reaction
Added 2021-04-30 16:54:14 +0000 UTC
Now why on this earth would they ever end this episode like this!! I’m lost for words, ANGEL IS BACK OMFG. I DIDNT EXPECT IT THIS EARLY. Angel is back and now I’m hype to see what happens, clearly he’s very confused and traumatized.
In addition, a new character….. Faith. After rendering the episode in my head I do like her towards the end of the episode. It provides a different dynamic between the slayers. But in the show I was annoyed at the people around her (like Willow and Xander spilling her tea), and Joyce. But she didn’t get on my nerves when she had the nerve to throw several shots at Buffy smh.
But she grew on me especially in the next episode!
Be safe guys, it’s finals week for me so I’m barely holding on.
See you guys Monday!😊

i totally agree that her friends were horrible this episode, spilling all of her business to faith but i just felt like buffy's anger towards faith was displaced, she should've been mad at her friends. i just feel like even without knowing faith's backstory she wasn't all that bad, she didn't really seem malicious to me until she'd put up with enough from buffy. i blame xander, willow, and joyce for being nicer to faith over buffy but i didn't interpret the episode as faith trying to replace her, more just desparately trying to fit in! this is one of the only episodes where i'm not too fond of buffy. also i'm sorry if my last comment came off rude i was all emotional over faith, i def didn't mean to attack but reading it back i seemed heated lol- i love ur reactions to the series so far, i'm binging! i love your energy it's so much more fun to watch reactors that actually seem like they care about the show, i've encountered some who aren't very invested and it's not as enjoyable. ok that's all lol, thank u for the content<3

Most of the things I’m saying towards faith is a joke. But once again, how can you understand faith’s perspectives if you don’t find out until the end of the episode? You just know this new slayer shows up, and is taking away her shine. Let alone Buffy literally just got her friends back after that she left for 3 or so months. To then see her friends be so easily impressed and joking with someone who does exactly what she does. Or to watch her mom who was in denial she was a slayer just a few months later and told her to leave, is so motherly and caring to another slayer who just came here like a few hrs before. It’s not hard to see Buffy pov before you see faith because you don’t know her yet.

i just spent the last half of the episode sobbing because of how horrible u were to faith- literally what did she do other than eat off buffy's plate and choose not to help buffy because buffy told her she didn't want help (and threatened to beat her up) all the while completely excluding faith for absolutely no reason, the same way she did to kendra, except faith was extremely kind to her since the beginning which is more than i can say for she-giles. she lets faith stay holed up in that motel she literally can't afford and has to try and seduce the manager to make rent. just think about it this way- if you were watching this from faith's perspective wouldn't you think that buffy was a raging bitch?

This season is where I remember not liking the show as much anymore...the vibe changed and I know it had to but it was like 1. The dark atmosphere of the S1/S2 was kind of gone 2. The Scooby Gang just didn't have that same closeness 3. Faith (I don't hate her but she is no Kendra...I always felt she was trouble)...and I'd say the biggest one was no Angel for even 2-3 eps was super difficult. I think Angel, Spike and Jenny....those characters added so much. It was a struggle because in the 90s there was like 6 months gap before season 3...I wasn't over Angel being gone like Buffy and as you said everyone had no empathy and acted like she could just easily move on. I remember some cool plots in later seasons but I really think everything changed after the whole Angel thing even though that was a really good arc.

I agree to a point. But I also don't like how they didn't give her more compassion regardless. Whether he was Angelus or Angel that would of been hard for Buffy to do regardless because Angelus still reminds her of Angel because they share the same body not to mention she loved him so much. At the very least they shouldn't have ganged up on her and attack her. If she doesn't want to talk about it then just give her time. Maybe it's because I liked Angel as a character but I remember watching the S2 finale in the 90s and I remember how hard that hit me as a viewer...the choice she had to make was so tough and I remember still not being over it despite the gap between that and S3. Both sides have good points but I love how Najae really understands Buffy....

I have so much room for Faith. She’s a girl Buffy’s age living alone, a high school dropout, having to slay until she dies. It’s so much and she’s very much a mirror for Buffy if she didn’t have the support she has and it’s so hard for me to hate her.

Yeah, I think I’m in the very small minority who is not a huge fan of Faith. Also Joyce isn’t a bitch! Shes a mother. She’s concerned about her daughter and if there’s another slayer in town why wouldn’t a mother want someone else to do it and keep their daughter safe?

I love how much of a Buffy stan you are! And your Faith predictions were scary accurate.
The Claddagh ring is a real traditional Irish ring. They still make them, that's why it's easy to find in a gift shop. As I recall, they were quite popular in the late 90s 🤣.

What I think is important about this episode, in regards to the last two episodes specifically, is that none of the other characters really knew what happened between Buffy and Angel, so while they were totally out of line the last few episodes, they were out of line in part because they did not know the whole story. they did not know that Angel was cured, and not only cured but Buffy had to kill him while he was cured... it really messed with her obviously, but no one knew how much until Buffy finally admits Angel was cured. Once you see the realization hit Willow's face you can tell she realizes how unfair she was to Buffy and it kills her. I think we crap on Joyce on the others for being so awful to Buffy, but we need to remember, none of them knew the full story until now.

He went to hell, they stole his clothes, rude!
I'm glad Faith is growing on you. You have to remember she's only been a slayer for 3 months or so, she's lost her watcher, not had a great time. More be mad at Buffy's friends for talking about Angel and Xander drooling over her, her mum too. Remember, Buffy didn't think much of Kendra at first either. I still miss Kendra though :(
I know you've got it now about the spell not being a spell. Last episode Giles was happy to wait for Buffy to start talking to them all but I guess he's realised she's not going to open up so decides to give her a nudge. He's sneaky that way ;)

The thing I REALLY want to know...
Where did Angel get all that baby oil he greased up with? :)
PS: I love your reactions. You get SOOO excited about stuff. I can't wait to watch more with you.

Giles made up the binding spell to get Buffy to admit that something was bothering her about Angel.
