Art Tidbits: How to work fast
Added 2018-04-02 10:24:36 +0000 UTCOn my Tumblr I regularly get questions like: "How the f**k do you work so fast? "
I use a lot of speedpainting techniques, and I don’t do super-detailed lineart which would slow me down tremendously. When doing your intial greyscale sketching, keep it very vague, because its going to change tremendously (unless you know right from the beginning what you want.).
Another big thing that has helped me is coloring via color-gradients (set to “overlay” or “multiply in PS). And yes, keep it somewhat sketchy, don’t dwell on details which won’t be visible or are of little importance to your audience.
Of course this could be called “sloppy” or “unprecise” but I kind of developed it into my current artstyle. That doesn’t mean that I don’t put in lots of detail (I actually do) , but don’t expect it to be polished to the extreme. My limit is 2-3 h of focussed work. I tend to lose interest pretty quickly, so I like to work fast.
