Chapter 51: Mizuki-sensei, Don't Be Impatient!
Added 2024-12-07 21:58:03 +0000 UTCMizuki stood at the doorway, his gaze fixed on Sasuke. The fear in Sasuke's eyes dispelled the last shred of doubt in Mizuki’s mind.
I guess I was overthinking it.
Ever since returning to the office, Mizuki had been consumed by thoughts of whether Sasuke might try to trick him. But now?
He must’ve been terrified by the monsters in prison.
So what if he’s a genius of the Uchiha clan?
He’s still just a child, after all.
As Sasuke approached with his small backpack, Mizuki could practically feel the Scroll of Seals in his grasp. Suppressing a victorious smile, he kept his demeanor neutral to avoid raising suspicion.
“Mizuki-sensei, come with me quickly. I’m anxious!”
Sasuke kept his head down as he dashed out of the classroom.
To Mizuki, Sasuke’s haste was a sign of guilt—proof he had stolen the scroll.
In truth...
Sasuke was struggling to keep a straight face. If he let his guard down, he’d burst into laughter and ruin the act!
Mizuki followed Sasuke, maintaining a steady pace as they headed toward the Uchiha clan district.
The sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in warm hues. Their shadows stretched long and thin, trailing behind them in the golden light.
---
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Uchiha district. Sasuke led Mizuki to a stately yet unassuming mansion—his home.
Since the Uchiha’s relocation, Sasuke’s house had grown larger, resembling a villa. It was no ordinary dwelling; this had once been the residence of the Uchiha clan leader.
“Mizuki-sensei, the scroll is inside. Please come in,” Sasuke said, gesturing politely at the door.
“Alright.” Mizuki stepped inside, unfazed. After all, there was no one left in the Uchiha clan except the boy in front of him.
Once inside, a partitioned entrance came into view. Sasuke closed the door behind them and hurried ahead, leading Mizuki to the living room. He poured a glass of water and placed it on the table.
“Mizuki-sensei, I won’t trouble you with tea. Please wait here while I fetch the scroll,” Sasuke said before heading toward his room with his backpack.
“Okay.”
Mizuki knelt on the floor, his eyes following Sasuke as he disappeared down the hall. He took the opportunity to scan the surroundings.
This was his first time in an Uchiha residence.
The house was spacious and impeccably tidy, but a haunting chill lingered in the air. The walls seemed to whisper of bloodshed, echoing the clan’s massacre.
A house soaked in death.
A clan wiped out in a single night.
No wonder he’s scared of monsters, Mizuki mused.
---
The quiet was broken by the sound of Sasuke’s footsteps. He returned holding a sealed scroll.
“Is this the Scroll of Seals?” Mizuki’s eyes gleamed with greed.
“Yes, this is it,” Sasuke replied, stopping in front of him. He neither sat down nor handed over the scroll, instead fixing Mizuki with an unblinking gaze. His dark eyes were eerily calm, like a still pond devoid of ripples.
Mizuki shifted uncomfortably under Sasuke’s stare.
“Sasuke, give me the scroll.”
Mizuki’s tone grew sharp, betraying his impatience. Now that the prize was within reach, his restraint was slipping.
“Don’t be impatient,” Sasuke replied evenly, his voice deep and detached. “Before I hand it over, I need to ask you something.”
“What is it?” Mizuki frowned.
This was strange. Sasuke had been in such a hurry back at the academy, and now he was stalling? Was he up to something?
Mizuki clenched his fists, ready to take the scroll by force if needed.
“Mizuki-sensei, do you know why I brought you to my house?” Sasuke asked unexpectedly.
Mizuki froze.
What’s this brat talking about?
When Mizuki didn’t respond, Sasuke smirked.
“It’s because the Third Hokage’s Telescope Technique can’t see through the walls of a house.”
Mizuki’s eyes narrowed as Sasuke’s words registered.
“Ha! You’re overthinking things,” Mizuki sneered. “The Telescope Technique uses too much chakra, and the user needs to know their target’s chakra nature in advance. Even if you handed me the scroll at the academy, no one would have noticed.”
“Mizuki-sensei, you seem well-versed in the Telescope Technique,” Sasuke remarked, his tone tinged with mockery. “But I wasn’t willing to take that risk.”
The Third Hokage’s Telescope Technique, a form of clairvoyance, required the user to focus on a specific individual’s chakra signature to locate and observe them. Sasuke had learned about it in his textbooks.
While it couldn’t record sound, the technique allowed visual surveillance through a crystal ball.
One of Sasuke’s reasons for bringing Mizuki to his house was to avoid potential monitoring, as the Uchiha district was too remote for casual surveillance.
“Sasuke, stop wasting time and give me the scroll!” Mizuki growled, extending a hand.
“Don’t be impatient. I have a few more things to say,” Sasuke replied nonchalantly, brushing off Mizuki’s demand.
Mizuki’s frustration boiled over. “Sasuke Uchiha! Are you trying to get yourself thrown in prison? Don’t forget—there are monsters in there that’ll eat you alive!”
“Mizuki-sensei, even you don’t believe that nonsense,” Sasuke said, his tone icy as his gaze bore into Mizuki like an accusation.
Enraged, Mizuki shot to his feet, clearly ready to snatch the scroll by force.
“Sasuke, this is your last warning!”
“Mizuki-sensei,” Sasuke said calmly, unfazed by the outburst. “Don’t be impatient. I just have one final question for you.”
“What is it now?” Mizuki snarled.
“You’re planning to give the Scroll of Seals to Orochimaru, aren’t you?”
Sasuke’s words hung in the air like a thunderclap.
