Chapter 256

After leaving the secret base of the Uchiha clan, Kimimaro found a secluded spot to rest.

He sat cross-legged, eyes shut tight, while the flowing cloud pattern on his forehead emitted a golden glow.

The battle with Itachi might have seemed effortless, but it had taken a significant toll on Kimimaro.

While the second level of Sage Void Mode wasn’t overly taxing, activating the Third Eye had consumed a tremendous amount of energy.

The Third Eye—one of Kimimaro’s trump cards.

This eye’s ability was straightforward yet terrifying: *deprivation*.

So far, Kimimaro could only use it to strip away ocular jutsu. Whether it could deprive other abilities or objects was something he hadn’t confirmed yet.

Perhaps his current strength was insufficient, or perhaps ocular jutsu deprivation was its ultimate limit.

The Third Eye’s power was the result of fusing seven shards of ocular techniques, a reward from a previous battle.

The last two shards were obtained from the photo containing both Itachi and Obito.

Kimimaro had integrated the Third Eye with the flowing cloud pattern of his Sage Void Seal to keep it hidden.

The power of the Sage Void Seal was also the source of energy required to activate the Third Eye.

However, the Third Eye’s immense power came with equally immense energy demands. Without the Sage Void Seal, Kimimaro wouldn’t be able to use it at all.

Even so, activating it caused him great strain every time.

Previously, Kimimaro had used the Third Eye to strip *Kotoamatsukami* from Shisui’s eye!

This had demonstrated the Third Eye’s overwhelming power.

Having taken Kotoamatsukami, Kimimaro was no longer afraid of any Sharingan genjutsu, including Tsukuyomi.

His ability to easily break Itachi’s Tsukuyomi earlier was thanks to this.

This time, his prize was *Itachi’s Mangekyō Sharingan*!

Initially, Kimimaro had only intended to take Itachi’s Totsuka Blade and Yata Mirror, leaving the Mangekyō Sharingan for Sasuke.

But Itachi’s actions had infuriated Kimimaro, so he decided to strip Itachi’s Mangekyō completely, leaving nothing behind.

How Sasuke would awaken the Eternal Mangekyō was no longer his concern.

After all, both Sasuke and Naruto had a knack for pulling off miracles. The Sage of Six Paths was bound to help them somehow.

At this moment, Kimimaro was digesting Itachi’s ocular power.

When he stripped Itachi’s abilities earlier, he had already absorbed Amaterasu, using it to obliterate Itachi’s body.

But Amaterasu wasn’t the only power Itachi possessed.

Though not the strongest Mangekyō, Itachi’s eyes had the widest range of abilities: Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu, Susano’o, the Totsuka Blade, Yata Mirror, Yasaka Magatama, and more.

Sasuke, despite being the deuteragonist, didn’t receive nearly as many abilities. Other than Susano’o and Amaterasu, all he had was the flame control of Kagutsuchi—a variation of Amaterasu at best.

In contrast, Itachi’s powers were far more versatile.

As Kimimaro absorbed the overwhelming ocular energy, he frowned slightly. The golden light from the flowing cloud pattern began to flow toward his tightly shut eyes.

He opened them, drawing the golden glow into his Byakugan!

For a moment, his Byakugan seemed to undergo some kind of transformation.

After a long while, the golden light faded completely.

Kimimaro had fully assimilated Itachi’s ocular energy.

“Phew... Itachi Uchiha truly lived up to his name. His ocular power far surpasses that of Shisui’s Mangekyō Sharingan. If the opportunity arises, I must retrieve Shisui’s other eye—it’s a valuable asset.

“The Third Eye seems to have reached some kind of limit, but this excess energy has strengthened my Byakugan. At this rate, I might even unlock the Tenseigan. Even if I don’t, this will surely lay the foundation for it.”

Kimimaro muttered to himself, already planning to claim Shisui’s remaining eye the next time he met Naruto.

---

Meanwhile, elsewhere, Sasuke slowly regained consciousness.

Looking at his bandaged body, he realized his injuries had been treated, and his eyes were intact.

“I’m... not dead? It seems Kimimaro saved me.”

Recalling the events before he blacked out, Sasuke was filled with confusion.

What did Itachi’s words mean?

As Sasuke pondered, a voice pulled him back to reality.

“No, it wasn’t Kimimaro who saved you—it was me.”

“Who’s there?”

Sasuke’s Sharingan flared to life, its three tomoe spinning as he turned toward the voice.

“Allow me to introduce myself. I am Madara Uchiha.”

Obito stepped out of the shadows, revealing his Sharingan.

But in the next instant, Sasuke’s left eye transformed into a Mangekyō shape resembling a pinwheel, and black flames erupted from it, engulfing Obito.

“What?!”

Startled, Obito quickly retreated into the shadows, narrowly escaping the Amaterasu flames.

Sasuke’s left eye began to bleed.

*Amaterasu*—Itachi’s parting gift to Sasuke, programmed to activate upon seeing Obito’s Sharingan.

Caught off guard, Obito had no choice but to use his abilities to escape the flames.

Still reeling from the experience, Sasuke clutched his left eye in pain, the flames fading from his vision.

“What did Itachi do to me? What did he leave behind? And where is he?”

Sasuke desperately tried to piece together the events he had missed.

There was only one person who could give him answers: Kimimaro.

But Kimimaro wasn’t here—only the mysterious man claiming to be Madara.

“What’s going on?”

Sasuke was certain he had missed something crucial while unconscious.

“Itachi is dead.”

The voice came from the darkness again as Obito stepped forward.

“Dead? How did he die?”

Sasuke was stunned.

Itachi, the invincible figure he had chased for years, dead?

“He was killed by Kimimaro.”

“What?! That bastard killed Itachi? Doesn’t he know Itachi was mine to defeat?!”

Sasuke was furious.

Years of effort, all for the chance to kill Itachi, only for someone else to take that moment from him.

“Itachi fought to protect you, giving everything he had. But he failed in his goal. The one you trust—Kimimaro—has no good intentions toward you.”

“What are you talking about?”

Though angry, Sasuke couldn’t ignore the intrigue in Obito’s words.

From Obito, Sasuke learned of the hidden truths behind the Uchiha massacre:

The oppression of the Uchiha by Konoha’s upper echelons, Itachi’s sacrifice for peace, and his desperate choice to spare Sasuke’s life.

From the moment Itachi left Konoha, he had been planning to use his death to ensure Sasuke’s future.

But all of this was disrupted by Kimimaro.

Sasuke felt a whirlwind of emotions—grief, anger, guilt.

“Itachi fought to his last breath to protect you from Kimimaro’s schemes. But he was defeated, and Kimimaro destroyed his body. You’ll never see the man who bore all those sins for your sake again.”

“Shut up!”

Sasuke screamed, tears and blood streaming from his eyes.

*The Mangekyō Sharingan awakened.*

Chapter 257

Using his silver tongue, Obito manipulated Sasuke's emotions, painting Kimimaro as the unforgivable murderer of Itachi. Sasuke, shaken and filled with turmoil, accepted this version of events without question.

In truth, it wasn’t far from reality—after all, Itachi had indeed died at Kimimaro's hands, and his body had been completely destroyed, leaving no trace behind.

"Kimimaro! I swear I'll kill you! And then, I'll destroy Konoha! Everyone who harmed the Uchiha clan will pay!"

Hatred filled Sasuke’s heart once more.

Previously, his hatred was directed at Itachi, but now, it burned for Kimimaro and Konoha alike.

Seeing this, Obito smiled in satisfaction beneath his orange mask.

"No matter what you plan to do, you'll need to recover first. Dealing with Kimimaro and Konoha won’t be easy."

"Why are you helping me?"

"Because I’m an Uchiha, just like you. That’s all."

Sasuke fell silent at this response.

The reason seemed simple, but to him, it was convincing enough.

"Rest well."

With that, Obito left Sasuke alone to process everything. There was no rush; Sasuke would come to the right conclusion on his own.

Outside the room, Zetsu was waiting for him.

"You’ve convinced Sasuke?"

"Yes."

"Itachi’s body has been reduced to ashes, and the Mangekyō Sharingan is gone. Sasuke’s value to us has greatly diminished. Why are you still helping him?"

Zetsu’s tone carried a hint of confusion.

"Sasuke’s potential rivals Itachi's. Even without the Eternal Mangekyō, his regular Mangekyō is still strong enough to take on Kage-level opponents—and often win.

The Akatsuki members don’t entirely follow my orders. Having someone like Sasuke in our ranks is always useful. Besides, Orochimaru is far from reliable as an ally.

Let’s not forget that Orochimaru and Kimimaro are very close. If I become enemies with Kimimaro, Orochimaru’s stance might waver."

"So, are you planning to turn against Kimimaro?"

"Not unless absolutely necessary. But it’s better to be prepared. Kimimaro isn’t simple. His abilities alone are enough to make me cautious.

Even with Kamui, I can’t claim victory outright. I need to find a way to strengthen my own powers."

"Are you thinking of reviving Madara?"

"Not yet. The timing isn’t right. And Nagato isn’t as obedient as we’d like—he’s slipping out of our control."

"So, what will you do?"

"I have my plans."

Seeing Obito’s confidence, Zetsu didn’t press further.

---

Meanwhile, Kimimaro had his own plans: a visit to Konoha.

With five of the nine Tailed Beasts already sealed, the final battle was drawing near. To quickly increase his strength, Kimimaro had one option: the Tenseigan.

However, there was no straightforward method to awaken the Tenseigan.

After much thought, Kimimaro concluded that the fastest way was to seek out the Ōtsutsuki clan on the moon.

But accessing the moon’s entry point was no simple matter either.

Kimimaro suspected the Hyūga clan might hold some clues, so he decided to visit Hiashi Hyūga in Konoha.

---

Days later, standing before Konoha’s gates, Kimimaro felt a wave of nostalgia.

"It’s been a while since I’ve seen Lady Tsunade," he murmured.

Shaking his head to dispel unnecessary thoughts, he disguised himself with a simple jutsu and strode into the village, unimpeded by its barrier.

"The village is as bustling as ever," he observed.

Konoha’s economy had always outshone other villages, something even Kimimaro couldn’t deny.

Wasting no time, he made his way to the Hyūga compound.

In the courtyard, Neji was sparring with Hinata, while Hiashi and Hanabi observed.

Hinata attacked with all her strength but couldn’t land a hit on Neji. The gap in their abilities was glaring.

"Neji’s skill in Gentle Fist seems even greater than Father’s," Hanabi remarked in awe.

Hiashi didn’t refute her. "This is the result of three years of training under Kimimaro. Whatever methods he used, they were clearly extraordinary."

Hiashi was well aware of Neji’s talent. Yet, reaching this level in just three years went beyond mere talent—it required something more.

"That boy?"

Hanabi thought back to Kimimaro, the white-haired youth who had left a deep impression on her.

Though she hadn’t seen him since, his name often came up in conversations, always accompanied by admiration.

Over time, her curiosity about him only grew.

She began to wonder if she had underestimated him.

---

"Double Lion Fists!"

Hinata unleashed her signature move, chakra forming lion-shaped constructs around her fists.

With an impressive burst of power, she charged at Neji.

This technique, her ultimate move after three years of training, held considerable force.

Against a typical Chūnin, it would be a devastating attack.

But to Neji, it was clumsy and full of openings.

With a flicker of his Byakugan, he identified her weak points.

*Gentle Fist—Eight Trigrams: 64 Palms!*

Neji moved swiftly, reacting with incredible speed. As Hinata unleashed her twin lion fists, Neji focused his chakra into his right hand, forming a precise sword-like gesture. With a swift step, he maneuvered beside her and struck.

His first jab sealed the chakra flow in her left arm. In a fluid motion, he pivoted and struck her right arm.

In the blink of an eye, Hinata's chakra flow in both arms was cut off. The fierce lion-shaped chakra dissipated immediately.

Caught off guard, Hinata staggered and almost fell. Fortunately, Neji caught her in time and softly said, “Forgive me, Lady Hinata.”

“No, it’s I who should thank you, Brother Neji,” Hinata replied, her voice tinged with shame. “Your strength has grown so much in these three years of training. Meanwhile, I feel like I’ve been standing still.”

Before Neji could respond, Hiashi interrupted. “That’s enough, Hinata. You and Hanabi may leave. I have something to discuss with Neji.”

“Yes, Father,” Hinata replied, not daring to defy him. She left with Hanabi, leaving Neji and Hiashi alone in the courtyard.

“Neji, your progress has far exceeded my expectations. I never imagined Kimimaro could train you to this level in just three years. What we saw earlier wasn’t even your full power, was it? Kakashi once told me you’ve unlocked the power of the Curse Mark and even possess the strength to challenge a Kage. Is that true?”

Neji nodded silently.

Hiashi’s eyes lit up with delight. “Excellent! This is exactly the kind of strength the Hyuga clan needs. With your abilities, we can finally move forward with the plan I’ve been preparing.”

“What plan?” Neji asked.

“To abolish the Caged Bird Seal!”

Neji’s eyes widened in astonishment. It turned out Hiashi truly had such intentions—Kimimaro had not deceived him.

“Neji, you and your father have both suffered under the Caged Bird Seal. No one understands its impact better than you. Now that you’ve freed yourself and pushed the Byakugan’s potential to its limits, you are the perfect example. With your presence, even the most stubborn elders in the clan will have no choice but to relent.

“Abolishing the Caged Bird Seal is the only way forward for the Hyuga clan. Otherwise, our future is limited to being elite jonin at best. How could we ever rival the other great clans of Konoha?” Hiashi’s voice grew impassioned, his vision of the clan’s future becoming clear in his mind.

“But, Lord Hiashi,” Neji replied cautiously, “without the Hokage’s support, this might be impossible to achieve.”

“You needn’t worry about that,” Hiashi said confidently. “I’ve already discussed this with Lady Tsunade. She fully supports abolishing the seal.”

“Doesn’t she fear the Byakugan leaking to outsiders?” Neji asked, surprised.

“Did the Uchiha ever fear their Sharingan being stolen?” Hiashi retorted. “As long as the Hyuga clan is strong enough, any ninja foolish enough to target the Byakugan will have to weigh the consequences of facing our wrath!”

Hiashi’s resolve was unshakable, his confidence unyielding.

“Neji, it’s late. Rest now. Tomorrow morning, accompany me to meet the Hokage. We will finalize everything then.”

“Yes, Lord Hiashi,” Neji replied, still processing how smoothly everything seemed to be unfolding.

If both the clan head and the Hokage supported the abolition of the seal, then the outcome was practically certain. His role was merely to prove that the Byakugan’s full potential could be unlocked without the seal and to silence the clan’s conservative voices.

As night fell, Hiashi returned to his room, but his senses immediately sharpened—someone was there.

Before he could react, a flame ignited in the dark, illuminating the figure of a white-haired youth.

“It’s you!” Hiashi exclaimed, startled by the boy’s audacity to appear so openly.

“It’s been a while,” Kimimaro said with a faint smile, casually lighting another candle.

“What are you doing here?” Hiashi asked, wary of the dangerous strength Kimimaro now wielded.

“I need your help with something, Uncle Hiashi.”

“You, needing my help?” Hiashi’s surprise was evident.

“Of course. As the Hyuga clan leader, you know many things I don’t.”

“What do you want to know?”

“The entrance to the moon.”

Hiashi’s eyes widened in shock, his reaction confirming Kimimaro’s suspicions.

“So you do know,” Kimimaro said, his smile growing.

“What could you possibly want with the moon?” Hiashi asked.

“Uncle Hiashi, knowing too much won’t do you any good,” Kimimaro replied, his tone firm. “Just tell me what I need to know. In return, I’ll do something for you.”

Hiashi considered for a moment before nodding. Their relationship was one of mutual benefit, and Hiashi knew better than to pry too deeply.

“Very well, I’ll tell you. But you must promise me one thing.”

“Name it.”

“For the next ten years, anyone who dares covet the Byakugan, you must eliminate them!”

Hiashi’s voice was cold, filled with murderous intent.

Kimimaro raised an eyebrow, quickly grasping Hiashi’s intent.

“You’re planning to abolish the seal, aren’t you?”

“Exactly,” Hiashi confirmed. “Once the seal is gone, many will target the Byakugan. One Neji isn’t enough to deter them. I need someone in the shadows, someone who can strike fear into their hearts.

“In ten years, I believe the Hyuga clan will grow strong enough to protect itself. Until then, we need someone to silently eliminate any threats, just as the Uchiha once did with their Sharingan.”

Kimimaro smiled. “Confident, aren’t you? Very well, I agree to your terms.”

“Your first target is Ao of the Mist. Retrieve the Byakugan he stole, and I’ll tell you how to reach the moon.”

Hiashi’s words carried the weight of years of resentment. Ao’s stolen Byakugan was a scar the Hyuga clan had long wished to erase.

“Consider it done. In three days, I’ll bring back Ao’s head. Be ready.”

With that, Kimimaro disappeared as quickly as he had arrived, leaving Hiashi in awe of his speed and power.

In the silent night sky, Kimimaro strode across the air, bathed in moonlight, heading toward the Mist.

“Ao,” he muttered.

Far away in the Mist Village, Ao shivered as a chill ran down his spine.

“Is it getting colder?” he muttered, pulling his blanket tighter, unaware that death was already on its way.

Chapter 258

*Mist Village!*

The most enigmatic of the Five Great Shinobi Villages.

But truthfully, the mystery is only superficial—inside, the village has long been left in ruins by Obito's schemes.

Thankfully, the Mist Village has a savior. The Fifth Mizukage took office and reopened a path to prosperity for the village.

Not long after, Zabuza Momochi, one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, returned to the Mist, bringing with him Haku, a survivor of the Yuki clan. They were warmly welcomed by the Fifth Mizukage, Mei Terumi.

Interestingly, Mei Terumi was once Zabuza's senior at the academy. Although they weren’t particularly close, they knew of each other.

Back in the "Bloody Mist" era, a time when the village was steeped in bloodshed, they were among the younger generation eager to change the Mist. They acted on those ideals, albeit in different ways—Zabuza’s methods were more radical, while Mei’s approach was steadier.

The results speak for themselves: Mei is now the Fifth Mizukage, while Zabuza became a rogue ninja.

Impulsiveness rarely leads to great achievements.

---

*"Lady Mizukage, can we really trust Zabuza? He was once a rogue ninja, and the last time he was seen publicly, he fought and lost to Konoha’s Kakashi Hatake. After that, he vanished without a trace. His sudden reappearance is highly suspicious."*

In the Mizukage’s office, Ao voiced his concerns about Zabuza’s unexpected return, clearly dissatisfied.

After all, how could an S-rank rogue ninja deserve the Mizukage’s trust and favor again?

**"Zabuza and Haku have both passed the Mist’s Intelligence Division’s checks. They’re clean. Right now, the Mist is rebuilding and desperately needs talent. Zabuza may be extreme, but I believe in his dedication to the village.

As for Haku, he’s the last surviving member of the Yuki clan, bearing an invaluable Kekkei Genkai. With Kekkei Genkai users dwindling in the Mist, why would we turn away someone with the Ice Release ability?

Their return is a boon to the Mist in every way. Besides, as long as I’m here, they can’t cause any trouble."**

Mei spoke with unwavering confidence.

*"But…"*

Ao hesitated. Seeing Mei’s certainty, he couldn’t argue further.

Zabuza had passed the Intelligence Division’s checks. Without concrete evidence to prove otherwise, no amount of suspicion would hold weight.

After all, the allure of a former member of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen and a user of the rare Ice Release was undeniable.

If the Mist had enough capable shinobi, Ao and Chojuro wouldn’t have been sent as bodyguards during the Five Kage Summit in the first place. Their combat records were… less than stellar, especially Chojuro’s.

---

Meanwhile, Zabuza and Haku were settling into their new home in the Mist.

*"Zabuza-san, is this really our new home?"*

Haku gazed at the sizable courtyard with joy.

Although the Hidden Sound Village had been decent, Haku much preferred the Mist’s climate.

Perhaps it was the Mist’s blood running through his veins, making him feel an innate sense of belonging.

And he wasn’t the only one who felt this way—Zabuza did too.

He had left the Mist not out of dislike, but because he cared for it too deeply.

Now, standing once again in the village he loved, his heart was full of emotions.

*"Yes, this will be our home. I never thought I’d live to see the day I’d return. Mei Terumi… she’s accomplished what I couldn’t."*

The memories of the past came flooding back, feeling as vivid as yesterday.

*"Zabuza-san, do you think the Mizukage really trusts us? I feel like someone is watching us."*

*"Mei Terumi likely does. But in a village, it’s never just the Kage making decisions. It’s normal for others to distrust us. As long as we don’t give them any reason, we’ll be fine."*

*"Understood. What should we do next? Does Kimimaro have new instructions?"*

Zabuza shook his head.

*"That guy’s thoughts are hard to guess. Let’s explore the Mist for now and see how things have changed."*

*"Alright!"*

---

At that moment, Kimimaro arrived outside the Mist Village, stepping lightly as if walking on air.

*"I’m back. My place of rebirth."*

He gazed at the large kanji for "Mist" on the village gates and smiled faintly.

He had come to kill.

But since he was here, he figured he might as well visit Zabuza.

In the courtyard, Zabuza and Haku were resting with their eyes closed.

Suddenly, Kimimaro’s voice echoed in their minds:

*"Come inside."*

Both opened their eyes in shock and glanced at the house.

Inside, a faint silhouette had already appeared, putting them on high alert.

*"Zabuza-san, was that voice…?"*

*"It’s him. Let’s go in. Someone is watching us here; it’s not safe to talk outside."*

*"Understood."*

The two stood and entered the house.

Inside, Kimimaro was already seated on the floor, calmly brewing a pot of tea.

He took a sip, smiled, and said, *"It seems Mei Terumi has been good to you. This courtyard, this tea—it’s all very nice."*

*"Is there something you need us to do?"*

Zabuza cut straight to the point, skipping pleasantries.

*"Not quite. I came to the Mist on other business and decided to check on you both."*

*"Business? What business?"*

Zabuza’s gaze shifted to a box beside Kimimaro, wrapped in white cloth.

As a former assassin, Zabuza immediately recognized the box's size and shape—it was perfect for carrying a severed head.

*"Killing."*

Kimimaro’s tone was as casual as if he were discussing dinner plans.

He patted the box lightly and continued, *"And it’s already done."*

*"Who did you kill?"*

Zabuza was stunned.

Kimimaro had snuck into one of the Five Great Shinobi Villages in broad daylight, killed someone, and left without being detected. His strength was terrifying, but so was his audacity.

*"Ao."*

Kimimaro took another sip of tea.

*"Him!"*

Zabuza immediately recalled Ao’s face—a prominent figure in the Mist, who had served as a bodyguard for two Mizukage.

Although Zabuza disliked Ao, he never intended to kill him.

Kimimaro’s sudden action left him deeply shocked.

*"Why did you kill him?"*

**"Someone wanted him dead, and I needed that someone’s help.

Besides, there’s another reason. With Ao gone, there’s now an empty position beside the Mizukage. I want you to claim it."**

Zabuza fell silent for a moment before replying, *"Understood."*

*"Talking to smart people is so much easier. Now that I’ve had my tea, I should be going. I still need to play with the Mist’s ANBU."*

Kimimaro picked up the box and vanished before their eyes.

*"Zabuza-san…"*

Haku began to speak, but Zabuza stopped him.

*"Pretend you saw nothing."*

*"Understood."*

---

In the Mizukage’s office…

---

"Lady Mizukage! Something terrible has happened! Ao... Lord Ao is dead!"

Chōjūrō rushed in, panicked and shouting.

"What?!"

Mei Terumī stood up in shock.

"What happened?"

"The Anbu just reported that Lord Ao was found dead in his own home. His head was cut off. There were no signs of a struggle, so it must have been a sneak attack."

"A sneak attack? In the middle of the village? What are those Anbu doing? Do we know who did this?"

Mei was furious.

She had just spoken with Ao that morning about the future of Kirigakure, and now, by midday, he was dead?

Her anger was understandable.

Especially since it happened in his own home—this was an insult to the Hidden Mist Village!

"The Anbu have already dispatched teams to pursue the killer. We don’t know who it is yet, but we’ve tracked their escape route. Two Anbu squads are chasing them down; they should be able to handle it."

"If the killer was skilled enough to assassinate Ao silently within the village, they must be formidable. Two Anbu squads might not be enough."

Hearing this, Mei frowned and said, "I’ll go too!"

"Lady Mizukage, please reconsider! As Mizukage, you can’t leave the village so easily."

"At a time like this, those rules don’t matter. If we let this murderer escape, the Hidden Mist will lose all face!"

Ignoring Chōjūrō’s protests, Mei stormed out.

"Lady Mizukage, wait for me!"

Knowing he couldn’t stop her, Chōjūrō hurried after her.

---

Outside the Hidden Mist Village, Kimimaro strolled leisurely through the forest, waiting for someone.

With his skills, leaving unnoticed after killing someone was a simple task.

He was confident he could meet Zabuza without the Hidden Mist's Anbu catching on.

The reason he was being pursued now was intentional—he had left a trail on purpose.

If Ao had died under unclear circumstances, Zabuza, who Ao often opposed, would naturally become a prime suspect. To protect Zabuza, Kimimaro planned to divert suspicion.

At the same time, he could stir up resentment toward the Akatsuki organization, making the Five Great Shinobi Nations unite against them.

Kimimaro glanced at his black cloak with red clouds and muttered, "Obito, Pain, you can thank me later."

The Hidden Mist's Anbu were closing in, following the trail he had left.

"They’re slow. The Hidden Mist’s Anbu are even worse than Konoha’s. Oh... is Mei Terumī coming too?"

With his Byakugan, Kimimaro noticed Mei heading his way and was somewhat surprised.

The Mizukage herself had left the village to chase him. It seemed the Hidden Mist was truly stretched thin.

"It’s about time. If this drags on, it’ll be harder to wrap up."

Taking a step forward, Kimimaro activated his Transformation Jutsu. Moments later, an orange spiral mask appeared on his face—he now resembled Obito.

If Obito saw this, he’d likely be cursing him furiously.

---

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Several figures surrounded Kimimaro, a total of eight. Each had the skills of a jōnin.

Leading them was Mei Terumī herself.

Seeing the black cloak with red clouds on Kimimaro, Mei’s expression turned ice-cold.

"The Akatsuki manipulated the Fourth Mizukage and committed unforgivable crimes against the Hidden Mist. And now, you dare return to kill our people? Do you think the Hidden Mist is so easily bullied?"

"Heh, that man’s Byakugan interfered with the Akatsuki’s plans. Of course, we couldn’t let him go. Fifth Mizukage, don’t think you can save the Hidden Mist. One day, it will fall into the Akatsuki’s hands again!"

"Bold words! You’re just a group of rats hiding in the shadows, and you dare dream of controlling the Hidden Mist? Today, I won’t let you leave alive!"

"Oh? Do you really think you have the ability?"

"You’ll find out soon enough! Everyone, stand back! Lava Release: Acid Monster Jutsu!"

Hearing Mei’s command, the Anbu immediately retreated.

They knew Mei’s technique was indiscriminate—it would dissolve anything it touched.

Orange acid spewed from Mei’s mouth, rushing toward Kimimaro.

Wherever the acid flowed, white smoke rose, and the ground began to melt.

"What strong corrosion."

While Lava Release and Acid Release were different techniques, both were highly corrosive.

Having seen the Four-Tails’ Lava Release, Kimimaro wasn’t particularly impressed by Mei’s Acid Monster Jutsu.

A fierce battle was inevitable.

---

Meanwhile, in Konoha, at the Hyūga compound...

"Father, you called for me? Is there something you need?"

Hinata, who had been training, approached her father Hiashi with trepidation.

Since she was stripped of her status as the heir, such private conversations had become rare.

"Hinata, you’re nearly seventeen now, aren’t you?"

"Yes, in five months."

"Time flies. It feels like just yesterday you were a child."

Hiashi’s eyes held a hint of sadness, while Hinata couldn’t understand why he was suddenly nostalgic.

"Hinata, do you have someone you like?"

"What?"

Hinata’s face instantly turned red.

"F-Father, why are you asking that all of a sudden? I... I don’t..."

"If you don’t, I’ve been considering arranging a match for you."

"Who?"

Hinata froze.

"Kimimaro of the Kaguya clan."

"What?!"

Hinata felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

"The Hyūga and Kaguya clans have a long-standing connection. A marriage alliance wouldn’t be unusual. Kimimaro is currently a member of the Akatsuki, but I believe he’s secretly working for the Hokage.

Once the Akatsuki is destroyed, he should be able to return to normal life.

If you were to marry Kimimaro, it would be a great benefit to the Hyūga clan.

I plan to abolish the Caged Bird Seal, but achieving that requires strong military power to deter opposition. Neji alone isn’t enough. With Kimimaro’s reputation, our chances of success would rise dramatically."

Though Hiashi had Kimimaro’s promise, he still wanted to ensure his clan’s future.

Since Hinata had lost her role as heir, this would be her way to contribute.

Moreover, with Kimimaro possessing the Byakugan, a marriage wouldn’t dilute the clan's bloodline.

Their offspring might even inherit both the Byakugan and the Shikotsumyaku, creating a new powerful figure.

"But, Father, I don’t have those feelings for Kimimaro."

Hinata rarely defied Hiashi, but this time, she had to protest.

Her heart belonged to someone else—how could she accept such a marriage?

"For the sake of our clan’s future, I hope you’ll consider it carefully."

Hiashi wasn’t overly forceful but made his stance clear.

"I..."

Before Hinata could respond, the door burst open. Hanabi stormed in.

"Father! Big Sister loves Naruto Uzumaki. You can’t force her to marry someone she doesn’t love. If someone has to marry Kimimaro for the clan, then when I grow up, I’ll do it!"

Chapter 259

"Fireworks!"

Hinata and Hiashi were visibly surprised when Hanabi suddenly barged in.

Hanabi's expression was firm, clearly indicating she wasn't joking around.

"Big sister, I know you've always liked Naruto Uzumaki. While I don’t fully understand what kind of person he is, as long as you like him, that's all that matters to me. I won't allow you to marry someone you don’t love."

Turning to Hiashi, she added, "Father, please let me handle this matter. As the heir of the Hyuga main family, I am more suited to form a political alliance with the current head of the Kaguya clan."

"Ridiculous! If you marry Kimimaro, who will inherit the Hyuga clan?" Hiashi scolded her.

"Let Neji take over," Hanabi argued. "Father, you want to abolish the caged bird seal system, which essentially dismantles the main and branch family divide. If you want outsiders to take this change seriously, the next head of the clan cannot be from the main family.

"Neji, with his strength and character, is undoubtedly the best choice. This will show the world that the Hyuga clan is no longer stuck in old traditions but is paving the way for merit-based leadership.

"The branch family can only truly be free in body and mind if the reform is thorough. This is the only way to make this transformation meaningful."

Hanabi's logical reasoning left both Hiashi and Hinata stunned.

No one had expected someone so young to have such far-reaching thoughts.

A faint smile appeared on Hiashi's face as he said, "Hanabi, your insight is indeed rare. However, marriage alliances are not trivial matters. Hinata and Kimimaro are of a similar age, making the match more suitable. You are still too young."

"Father, restoring Kimimaro's status won’t happen overnight. By then, I’ll be old enough.

"Besides, Kimimaro is only eighteen now. I doubt he’s in any rush to marry. A few more years, and the timing will be just right.

"I also believe, Father, that you haven’t spoken to Kimimaro about this yet. He may not even be willing to form an alliance through marriage with the Hyuga clan. If you allow me to replace my sister in this arrangement, I will handle the rest myself."

"Hanabi..."

Hinata, who had been silent, wanted to speak but was immediately interrupted by Hanabi.

"Sister, please let me take care of this. You’ve already given up your position as heir, haven’t you?"

"But I can’t let you sacrifice your own happiness."

Hinata looked at Hanabi with a heartbroken expression. She realized in that moment how much her younger sister had borne on her behalf because of her own timidity.

"Sister, this might not be a sacrifice for me. To be honest... I quite like Kimimaro."

Hanabi's face blushed slightly, but Hinata felt this was merely to reassure her.

"Enough. Let me think about this. Both of you may leave now," Hiashi declared.

"Father!"

"I said, let me think about it!"

Hiashi's commanding tone silenced both Hinata and Hanabi.

Knowing they couldn’t challenge their father’s authority, the sisters left together.

Now alone in the room, Hiashi’s stern expression softened into a smile.

"The results of today’s test were quite satisfying," he murmured.

Hiashi was well aware that Hanabi had been eavesdropping outside the door.

This entire scenario had been orchestrated as part of his future plans.

Neji’s strength had grown significantly, and with Hiashi’s intention to abolish the caged bird seal, the idea of Neji becoming the clan leader had been on his mind for a long time.

Whether out of guilt toward Hizashi or for the future of the Hyuga clan, Neji was the optimal choice as the next leader.

But this posed a problem: what would happen to Hinata and Hanabi?

Both were publicly seen as heirs to the leadership, and if Neji were to take over, their presence would complicate matters. As long as they remained within the clan, voices advocating for their leadership would persist, potentially splitting the Hyuga clan into factions.

Though neither Hinata nor Hanabi would harbor such ambitions, there were always those with ulterior motives.

To avoid such division, the best solution was to have them marry outside the clan.

While Hiashi had no intention of harming his daughters, arranging their marriages outside the Hyuga was the most pragmatic solution.

Hiashi had been closely observing Hinata, despite his seemingly distant attitude toward her.

He was well aware of her feelings for Naruto Uzumaki.

Initially, he was against it.

But as Tsunade became the Fifth Hokage and showed Naruto exceptional care and leniency, and as Naruto became Jiraiya’s disciple, Hiashi’s opinion shifted.

As a capable clan leader, Hiashi recognized the potential. Naruto, with such attention and protection, was no ordinary jinchūriki. A bright future awaited him, provided he didn’t perish.

Moreover, Naruto’s dream of becoming Hokage was widely known. Over the years, as his strength grew, he was gradually proving himself worthy of the title.

If Naruto became the Sixth or even Seventh Hokage, Hiashi would wholeheartedly approve of Hinata’s marriage to him.

As the wife of the Hokage, Hinata’s position would elevate the Hyuga clan’s status in Konoha immeasurably.

Thus, Hiashi had little to worry about regarding Hinata. It was now up to her to win Naruto’s heart.

Hanabi, on the other hand, required more careful planning.

With Hinata positioned to rise within Konoha, Hiashi shifted his focus outward.

Among the other four great ninja villages, none were suitable options, especially those coveting the Byakugan.

After much consideration, Kimimaro seemed like the ideal candidate.

Kimimaro had already assisted in Hiashi’s plan to abolish the caged bird seal and even secured Tsunade’s support. This proved he had a significant connection with Konoha and was not an enemy.

Realizing this, Hiashi began devising a strategy to bind Kimimaro to the Hyuga clan.

A mere ten-year alliance wasn’t enough.

Marriage, the most effective means of forging familial ties among great clans, became Hiashi’s plan.

In his eyes, Kimimaro was a perfect match for Hanabi. If he could secure Kimimaro as a son-in-law, it would be an ideal outcome.

Of course, Hiashi knew that such plans depended on more than just his wishes..

Kimimaro didn't seem like a man driven by lust, so such a marriage proposal might not sit well with him.

Thus, the best outcome would be mutual affection.

"Hanabi doesn’t object to Kimimaro, which gives this idea a glimmer of hope. The next step would be to start making arrangements. Of course, as Hanabi mentioned, it's still early, but being prepared is better than being caught off guard," Hiashi mused, already beginning to formulate a plan.

Meanwhile, Kimimaro, who was in the Hidden Mist Village battling Mei Terumi, was oblivious to the scheming happening behind his back.

If he knew, he would probably find it both frustrating and amusing.

The acid formed by the Dissolving Jutsu was relentlessly advancing toward him.

"Earth Release! Earth Dragon Bullet!" Kimimaro weaved signs, and an earthen dragon emerged from beneath his feet. Standing on its head, he surged out of the acid's reach.

However, the acid corroded the dragon rapidly. Just as Kimimaro escaped, the dragon dissolved into nothingness.

"This level of corrosion is truly terrifying," he muttered, retreating swiftly.

Disguised as Tobi, he refrained from using his own signature techniques to avoid leaving clues Mei could trace.

In such a situation, escape was the best option.

Although Mei ranked among the weaker of the Five Kage in terms of combat prowess, she was still a Kage. Capturing her without revealing his signature moves would be almost impossible.

He sped up his retreat.

Mei, noticing this, narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"His Earth Release is impressive. Could he be a rogue ninja from the Hidden Stone? The Akatsuki certainly has no shortage of talent," she thought while quickening her pursuit.

Other Mist ANBU tried to follow but quickly fell behind. The gap between Kage-level and jonin-level combatants was stark.

Kimimaro, observing Mei's persistent chase through his Byakugan, felt a tinge of exasperation.

"Seems like she won’t let me go without a fight. Fine. Let’s play, then. I might as well test the Sharingan abilities I just acquired," he thought.

The third eye on his forehead, a fusion of stolen ocular powers, had enhanced his Byakugan, granting it Sharingan-like abilities.

Kimimaro vanished into the trees, hiding behind a massive trunk.

Mei, still in pursuit, arrived at the tree but found no trace of him.

"Where did he go?" she wondered aloud.

Just then, a single Sharingan glinted from an orange mask before her eyes.

It was an illusion crafted by Kimimaro, blending Sharingan powers into his Byakugan. Mei couldn’t discern the deception.

"Sharingan!" she exclaimed.

Suddenly, she felt the world twist around her. She was trapped in a space where flames consumed her body.

"Damn! A genjutsu!" Mei panicked, instantly gathering her chakra to break free.

Kimimaro, observing her eyes gradually clear of the illusion, didn’t linger. Using his swift step technique, he retreated at full speed.

"Though the three-tomoe Sharingan's genjutsu is formidable, it’s still too weak to immobilize a Kage for long. But it bought me enough time to escape," he thought, vanishing from sight.

Mei broke free from the genjutsu moments later.

"A Sharingan! Could it be Itachi Uchiha? But his profile doesn’t match. Does the Akatsuki have another Uchiha?" she wondered, her thoughts clouded with suspicion.

The ANBU arrived just then.

"Are you alright, Lady Mizukage?" Chōjūrō asked, visibly concerned.

"I’m fine. That man possesses the Sharingan. I fell for his genjutsu, but it seems he wasn’t intent on killing me. Otherwise, I would’ve been gravely injured," she replied.

"An Uchiha?" Chōjūrō was taken aback.

"ANBU, issue an S-rank bounty. Hunt him down," Mei commanded.

"Understood!"

Not long after, a bounty poster bearing the masked man Tobi's likeness circulated in the Hidden Mist and reached the bounty stations.

In the Hidden Mist, Zabuza stared at the poster and smirked. "Whoever this is must’ve really pissed off Kimimaro to get this treatment."

After evading the Mist ANBU, Kimimaro returned to his true form and walked across the water, leaving the Land of Water behind.

"It’s about time to exchange intel with Hiashi Hyūga," he mused.

Elsewhere, Tobi, tending to Sasuke, received a message from Zetsu. Upon reading it, his face darkened.

"Kimimaro!" he spat, seething with rage.

The note was short, but its contents were clear. A bounty for his head worth seventy million ryō had been issued and was causing a frenzy among bounty hunters.

Such a colossal bounty was a rare occurrence. The excitement among rogue ninjas was palpable.

Even Kakuzu had taken a bounty slip but dropped it upon recognizing the face.

“Too bad. Seventy million is no small sum. Maybe I should discuss with the boss about temporarily teaming up with Tobi,” Kakuzu mused, only half-joking.

What intrigued him more was what Tobi could’ve done to provoke the notoriously cash-strapped Hidden Mist into offering such an extravagant reward.

Even Tobi could only partially guess.

"Kimimaro, that grudge-holding little snake. All I did was take Sasuke, and he’s already retaliating like this," he muttered.

Though he knew Kimimaro was behind it, Tobi found himself helpless.

It wasn’t worth creating discord in the Akatsuki over such a trivial matter.

“Hmph, just you wait, Kimimaro!” he growled.

Chapter 260

*Konoha, Hyūga Clan.*

Kimimaro walked under the moonlight, arriving precisely on the third night.

In the quiet room, Kimimaro carried a wooden box containing a severed head and placed it before Hyūga Hiashi.

"This is what you wanted."

Sliding the box over to Hiashi, Kimimaro spoke calmly.

Hiashi, without hesitation, opened the box. Inside lay the head of Ao, an outsider who once possessed the Byakugan. His face was serene, as if he had drifted off into a peaceful slumber.

"Thank you."

Hiashi closed the lid, satisfaction flickering across his face.

For years, the Hyūga clan had desired Ao's death and the reclamation of the Byakugan he had taken. Yet, they had never found the opportunity. To think Kimimaro had managed to deliver it within just three days was beyond expectation.

However, the situation in Kirigakure must now be in chaos. Kimimaro's speed was so astonishing that even the spies Konoha had planted in Kirigakure hadn’t had time to relay the news.

"You've received what you wanted. Now, can you tell me how to reach the moon?"

"Of course. Here's the information you asked for." Hiashi showed no signs of deceit and handed Kimimaro a map.

"This map marks the entrance to the moon. I don't know why you need this, but I must warn you: it's not a safe place. Be cautious. Also, if anyone asks how you got there, please avoid revealing my involvement."

Kimimaro unfolded the map, glanced at it, and replied, "You can rest assured. I won't sell out my allies. If there's nothing else, I'll take my leave."

As Kimimaro prepared to depart, Hiashi suddenly called out, "Wait!"

"Hmm? Is there something else?"

"Can you tell me what your relationship with the Fifth Hokage is?"

"I can't."

Kimimaro refused outright.

Hiashi gave a wry smile. Though he had expected this response, the blunt refusal still took him by surprise. Kimimaro was no longer as approachable as he had been four years ago.

"I do have one more request, and I hope you'll consider it."

"What is it?"

"The plan to abolish the Caged Bird Seal has been accelerated. I intend to have Neji take over as the clan leader."

Kimimaro raised an eyebrow, surprised at Hiashi's boldness. Though Neji was Hiashi’s nephew and not his son, relinquishing the position of clan leader required extraordinary resolve.

"Uncle Hiashi, you're truly bold. This is to foster unity within the branch family and to show the elders your determination, isn't it?"

Hiashi nodded. "Exactly. However, this will leave Hinata and Hanabi in an awkward position within the clan. Hinata's situation is easier—she likes Uzumaki Naruto, and becoming the wife of the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki would be a good outcome. As for Hanabi…"

Hiashi stared into Kimimaro’s eyes, searching for any trace of emotion. Yet Kimimaro’s gaze betrayed nothing, leaving Hiashi unable to discern his thoughts.

Left with no choice, Hiashi pressed on. "If you don’t mind, would you consider taking Hanabi as your disciple? Let her follow you and learn for a few years?"

Hiashi didn't know Kimimaro well, but he was certain the man wasn’t the type to lust after women. Arranging a marriage alliance seemed out of the question, so Hiashi opted for a more indirect approach.

"Take a disciple? I'm not interested."

Kimimaro rejected the idea without hesitation. In the world of shinobi, being a mentor was a risky occupation. Too many powerful shinobi had taken prodigious disciples, only to be betrayed and killed by them.

Kimimaro, a strong ninja himself, saw no reason to walk that perilous path.

"Don't be so quick to refuse. This could be beneficial for you as well," Hiashi urged.

"Beneficial? How so?"

"By becoming Hanabi's mentor, you would align yourself with the Hyūga clan. If you ever wanted to join Konoha, the resistance against you would be much lower."

Kimimaro gave Hiashi a puzzled look. Why would he think Kimimaro wanted to join Konoha? What was so great about the place? Otogakure was plenty comfortable for him.

What kind of "benefit" was this supposed to be?

Just as Kimimaro was about to speak, the village shook violently.

"What’s going on?" Hiashi exclaimed, rising to his feet and looking out the window.

The commotion attracted the attention of Konoha's other shinobi as well. Outside the village, a massive ethereal figure appeared—white-clad and towering.

"My name is Hiruko. I was once a Konoha shinobi. Now, I have mastered the Chimera Technique and gained the abilities of four bloodline limit users from Kumogakure, Sunagakure, Iwagakure, and Kirigakure. Once I absorb them completely, I will become an immortal, perfect ninja.

When that time comes, I will launch the Fourth Great Ninja War. You insects in the Five Great Shinobi Villages, tremble and await your deaths!"

The same scene unfolded simultaneously across the Five Great Villages. The Five Kage, seeing the projection, all wore grim expressions.

To openly declare war against the Five Great Nations, one had to either possess overwhelming power or a death wish. And the massive figure conjured by this white-clad boy didn’t seem simple.

"The Fourth Great Ninja War? What arrogance. Hiruko, a former Konoha ninja? That name rings a bell," muttered the Fourth Raikage, clenching his fists in thought.

In Kirigakure, Mei Terumī’s face darkened further.

"Why is there always something? Can’t anyone behave themselves? Damn it!"

Already reeling from the recent loss of a key subordinate, Mei had little patience for new disturbances.

"Let Konoha handle this. Hiruko is their missing-nin, so they can’t just ignore it," she decided.

In Iwagakure, Ōnoki watched the projection fade, murmuring, "The Chimera Technique… interesting."

Amidst the desert sands, Gaara crossed his arms, observing the enormous figure silently.

"A missing-nin from Konoha… A chance to repay the favor from last time," he mused.

Back in Konoha, Kimimaro narrowed his eyes.

Hiruko? The Chimera Technique?

A forbidden jutsu capable of assimilating bloodline limits. Even the Scroll of Seals didn’t include something like this.

"Could this be the key to creating the Tenseigan? The perfect fusion of Byakugan and Shikotsumyaku is still beyond my reach. Perhaps the Chimera Technique could help me achieve it. If so, I wouldn’t even need to go to the moon."

For the first time, Kimimaro felt a strong interest in Hiruko's technique.

"Hiruko… that name sounds familiar. Wasn’t he a contemporary of the Sannin?" Hiashi muttered under his breath.

"To still appear as a youth despite his age, the Chimera Technique must be extraordinary," Kimimaro remarked softly.

"You're interested?"

"Of course. A jutsu this fascinating? How could I not be?"

"I have some information on Hiruko. If you want, I can give it to you," Hiashi offered eagerly.

To make Kimimaro accept an apprentice, Hizashi seemed exceptionally attentive.

Kimimaro furrowed his brows slightly, thought for a moment, and then said, “I don’t need any information. I have my ways to deal with Hiruko. Uncle Hizashi, I’ll take my leave now.”

Without giving Hizashi more time to respond, Kimimaro vanished from the room.

Hizashi didn’t even have the chance to say another word.

“I didn’t expect Kimimaro to be so resistant to the idea of taking on an apprentice. Looks like I’ll have to create another opportunity. Fortunately, time is on our side; there’s no need to rush.”

Although his initial attempt failed, Hizashi remained undeterred.

Hanabi was still young, giving him plenty of time to make arrangements.

---

The next day, when Hanabi learned that Kimimaro had refused to take her as his apprentice, she couldn’t help but exclaim, “He actually refused?”

“Perhaps it’s because he’s used to working alone and doesn’t like having someone following him. But don’t worry, we’re not completely out of options. We still have plenty of time.”

Hanabi took a deep breath, suppressing her dissatisfaction.

“I understand, Father.”

“Good. Go back to your training for now. I’ll let you know when there’s any news.”

“Yes!” Hanabi bowed and left, but her frustration lingered.

“Well, Kimimaro, how dare you refuse me as your apprentice? Next time, I’ll take matters into my own hands. You won’t have the chance to refuse me again!”

Confident in herself, Hanabi started planning her next move. Meanwhile, Kimimaro hadn’t left Konoha for long. Instead, he waited outside the village—for someone specific.

That person was Kakashi.

If his memory served correctly, Hiruko’s final target among the Kekkei Genkai users was Kakashi.

In the original story, Kakashi was implanted with Hiruko’s puppet technique as a child. Once activated, the technique would allow Hiruko to control him. Knowing this, Kakashi had intended to sacrifice himself, using Kamui to drag Hiruko into another dimension to kill him.

Thus, to locate Hiruko, all Kimimaro had to do was follow Kakashi.

Now, Kimimaro was lying in wait.

---

Tsunade’s gamble was bold. Even in Konoha’s vulnerable state, she was willing to risk losing a Hokage candidate like Kakashi to eliminate Hiruko. If not for Naruto’s interference, Kakashi would have undoubtedly been pulled into the other dimension.

However, this time, with Naruto training in Mount Myoboku to master Sage Mode, he wouldn’t be there to save Kakashi. Still, Kakashi likely wouldn’t die, since Hiruko’s technique would transport him to Obito’s Kamui dimension.

And Obito wouldn’t allow Kakashi to perish there.

But that was another story.

For now, Kimimaro’s interest lay in Hiruko’s Chimera Technique.

---

After a day and night of waiting, Kimimaro finally spotted Kakashi leaving the village.

At this moment, Kakashi’s exposed Sharingan glowed with the distinctive red light of the puppet technique.

“It seems Hiruko has made his move. This puppet technique is quite intriguing, capable of rendering even Kakashi unable to control himself.”

This puppet technique wasn’t the same as the one used in the Hidden Sand Village. Instead, it was a sealing technique that turned its victims into mindless puppets, entirely controlled by the caster.

Kimimaro flickered to Kakashi’s side, observing as Kakashi continued walking forward without any reaction.

“Interesting. Byakugan!”

With his Byakugan activated, Kimimaro examined the seal inscribed on Kakashi’s forehead. As he followed Kakashi, he began analyzing the structure of the puppet seal.

Meanwhile, members of the ANBU trailing Kakashi noticed Kimimaro’s presence. One of them immediately returned to report to Tsunade.

---

In Konoha’s Hokage office.

“Kimimaro is following Kakashi? What has he done?” Tsunade asked, her expression filled with doubt.

“Nothing so far. He’s just following. We didn’t dare get too close for fear of being discovered.”

“I see. Keep monitoring them. As long as Kimimaro doesn’t interfere with Kakashi’s mission to confront Hiruko, there’s no need to intervene.”

“Yes!” The ANBU operative bowed and departed.

Tsunade gritted her teeth slightly.

“Kimimaro, what are you planning this time?”

The Hokage found herself increasingly unable to read Kimimaro’s intentions.

Could he be connected to Hiruko?

It wasn’t impossible. Hiruko’s Chimera Technique focused on merging Kekkei Genkai, a fascination he shared with Orochimaru.

After leaving Konoha, it was conceivable that Hiruko and Orochimaru had collaborated, which might explain Kimimaro’s current actions.

“Still, Kimimaro wouldn’t let Kakashi die. He’s always been on our side.”

Comforting herself with this thought, Tsunade felt slightly reassured.

But she wasn’t about to put all her faith in Kimimaro.

“Summon Yamato, Asuma, and Guy!”

Tsunade prepared to act.

---

Mount Sumeru—the hiding place of Hiruko.

Here, Hiruko worked tirelessly to perfect his Chimera Technique.

To successfully merge five Kekkei Genkai, three conditions were necessary.

The first was timing—the solar eclipse.

The second was location—the unique geography of Mount Sumeru.

The third was the five Kekkei Genkai users themselves.

Hiruko was only waiting for Kakashi to arrive.

“After all these years, the moment has finally come,” Hiruko said, looking at the sky where the eclipse was beginning to form.

At that moment, one of his subordinates came to report.

“Lord Hiruko, Kakashi Hatake has reached the base of the mountain. However, there is a man in a black cloak with red clouds following him.”

“A member of the Akatsuki? What could they want?” Hiruko’s face showed a mix of suspicion and irritation.

“For now, it’s unclear. The man hasn’t taken any action.”

“Then you three go intercept him. Don’t let him delay Kakashi.”

“Yes, sir!”

Hiruko’s subordinates rushed out.

“Today, no one will stop me from becoming the perfect immortal shinobi!”
