Hundred Reigns Future Loop Poll: long or short?

Heya everyone,

As it is tradition by now, here's the new reign poll. While the current arc still has a few chapters ahead of its conclusion, I'm putting it up early for new patrons fresh off RR.

The second reason is that one of the options is a long reign.

Yes, Simon has reached enough information and levels to earn himself some reigns that last beyond three months ;) but that means they'll cover a lot more chapters than previous arcs so I'll need a bit more time to plan them out. Future poll options will also indicate whether those reigns are planned to be long or short ones.

Otherwise, here are the character-appropriate options (Overlord of Crime will be offered in another poll). As usual, the poll will conclude with the current arc.

1) The Season of the Minotaur: Realizing his weakness in the face of grave threats, Simon decides to spend a full year in Whispermire to complete the Minotaur-binding ritual. As Simon Magnos mysteriously disappears, the Darkwood Necromancer appears to terrorize Whispermire. A pity there’s no shortage of adventurers trying to ruin one’s evil schemes…

Contains: A full year long reign, ‘evil’ dungeon master reign with multiple levels progression, Zodiac Fiends intel, and minions.

Length: Long (a full year)

2) The Elf Conspiracy: Simon is sure of it now, the elves are plotting to destroy Castle Frightwall and the Malphas family is at the center of it all. Infiltrating their clan through a skillful betrothal to Elaine Malphas and feigning sympathy for the empire’s enemies, Simon will soon discover that he has only scratched the surface of the conspiracy and its reach...

Contains: Uncovering the elven conspiracy, new allies for future reigns, intel on who killed Balzam Magnos, a new mentor.

Length: Short (a few months)

3) Mask of the Jester King: Having seen the devastating civil war that will unfold between the War and Church party without an Overlord to rein them in, Simon hits upon a genius plan: impersonate his own father, with none knowing the switch has taken place, and try to mediate between the factions. His efforts are doomed, of course, but this may be the occasion to find out who dug his father’s grave… and who’s profiting from it all.

Contains: Intel on who killed Balzam Magnos, a lot of black comedy, a happy and well-fed Gourmand, Magnos 'family bonding.'

Length: Short (a month of madness)

Comments

We need more like Mask of the Jester King! This kind of stuff is 1/2 the reason I follow Void

Chaos Beyond the Void

I'm voting the elf conspiracy. While others have mentioned that the mask of the jester would be the most fun and the season of the minotaur has the most benefits for Simon, I don't think Simon as a character would chose either path. He has constantly put himself out of his family's path, so unless he was forced or needed to do something vital in the castle, he wouldn't try the mask run. I think the minotaur run is the worst by far from a character point of view, Simon simply isn't at the stage where he could morally sacrifice innocent people. I know some might say that he has taken dark decisions, but every one of those decisions has been forced onto him or could be justified. The season of the minotaur is a run that needs to be done, but only after Simon has no other options available. My suggested ordering would be the elf run, the jester run and finally the minotaur run .

Tri Turtar

My hope is the longer the Jester King’s reign is put off the longer it will stretch as Simon is better able to handle the madness.

Guy Incognito

I really want a long reign, but more so another allies would be better

Touch

Ok, FINE, I will reread Perfect Run.

Grey

Voted minotaur, because it seems like the most logical so far, but I really want to see the Jester one happen.

Grey

I’m voting Minotaur reign for the levels but also so that Simon can see how everything plays out in the longer term. He needs to get at least one version of the lay of the land so that in future reigns, he can make better conclusions of what is probably going to happen next. But I would like the Jester King to be next

C. Adkins

Same. Simon in the 50s and 60s would still have plenty of enemies who could take him on, but he wouldn’t be auto-killed as often. Meaning more fun!

C. Adkins

So Void is going by a real experience tracker for levels. So I take his hints to mean that Simon will have just more opportunities to do things that would give him experience. I would expect being an evil necromancer to provide more experience than the other routes at this point.

C. Adkins

I want the jester king, I get that the other two are more important right now, but the jester king seems sooo fun Especially since I think I know who killed balzam, and I want to see if I’m correct

Lizy Flore

Seems that this perk to transfer damage to a spouse was created specifically for that marriage scenario

Myrdin

I want all of them in the end. I voted for the long one, but I hope that the Jester King will appear in the future again.

MaliMi

The only right choice

Jasus

All of the above

Orion1024

The elf conspiracy will probably not win but i really want to know if they know that Simon was destined to become the Paladin. I also want to know if the elfs can become allies.

Jasus

Longer Reign please, it’s too short recently

Touch

The Elf Conspiracy: that one I'm not fully convinced about. No matter how powerful or good an actor he is, Simon can be revealed as the Overlord the moment he is placed near the Paladin, and the high-level Elven Archmages are also likely very dangerous and skilled when it comes to perceiving dangers to their species. It would be good to know more about Elaine Malphas and the entire conspiracy, as well as its motivations...I don't know. It probably isn't as 'fun' as the other two.

Antony444

Now for my opinion on each of the three proposals. Season of the Minotaur: I have a feeling we know how it's going to end, lol. In hindsight, it was likely inevitable. Way too many people know that Simon went to Whispermire and the Darkwood (Louis, Lauriane, etc...) and he wasn't exactly discreet for certain moves lately. To last long enough to enact in full the Minotaur ritual, anonymity is needed. The other alternative was to prevent the Imperial Civil War, but it clearly isn't possible anymore during the Tenth Reign. Going 'Darkwood Necromancer' and 'Evil Necromancer' is certainly...an interesting choice (interesting in the Chinese sense, of course).

Antony444

This could be a possibility in a later reign, I think. The truce aside, maybe the elves can provide some healing guidance, because so far, well, it's each time a tragedy to see Agnes/Belzemine reverting to...to the awful beaten slave the Overlords have forged her into (though Mardok was worse than the other two by far in that regard).

Antony444

I got the feeling in the last few reigns that it doesnt really matter if we vote for a reign to lvl him up. He always only gets like max 5 or 7 lvls. Slow but continues progress seems the way to go here. Jester sounds like so much fun.

Seriously?

May the Muses forgive me (or not), but I want to read the Reign of the Mask of the Jester King. I know it is not that tactically smart (though there's an excellent opportunity to win all these nice Levels by acting like an utter tyrannical bastard) but look at the description of the contents! How could I resist the tempation, friends? It may be only a month of madness, but Magnos 'family bonding' promises to be so hilarious in a demented sort of way...murderously hilarious, yes, but come on!

Antony444

I think Simon needs some time to sort out his plans and needs.

Federico

I still vote for Strength, obviously some of the others will be more interesting but he can't stay at the mercy of people forever.

CentaureHeart

I though Simon may offer to return Belzemine to the elves in exchange for something. Information, maybe a truce with him (but not his whole family).

Aric Meyer

Jester King sounds like something that despite shortness could level up Simom significantly :D That's where my vote goes now.

Publius Decius Mus

Dang these all sound like good options. I guess the third one sounds the most fun, but I'd like to see some reigns that last several years, at least in numbers. I get that it wouldnt work for storytelling purposes too well to cover all that tike in detail, but it feels like such a waste if all the reigns are months long. Time skips sound like a great option there. Surely there will be many where he lasts a decade or two, or more. Balzam definitely had several that lasted as long. I think they are all good options, but I'd like to see him start getting some legs (and some intel) so I'm going with the long option. Is what I WOULD say if it werent the same setting and a near repeat of the same story we just read. There also needs to be a bit of variety, or lack of repetition, and the setting is wearing on me a bit. I' going option 2. The new mentor sounds interesting, as well as diving into the elven conspiracy.

Thaabit Rivertree

I think it's moreso something a person always carries. Wasn't confirmed but pretty sure a person just needs contact with their Crestone to use it. With that said for a vassal to steal a noble Crestone it'd pretty much take them being speed blitzed to an obscene degree. Since noble crestones are always more powerful than their vassal variants that seems like something that could never happen. That's not even taking into account that the noble creststones seems to be exclusively owned by high nobility or royalty which means that they are pretty much guaranteed to be power-leveled and well protected. So while theft in theory is possible in practice it pretty much isn't. Also even if a thief were to get there hands on the Crestone, it'd take them god knows how long to level the class up to something that would match their vassal class. Doing that while flying under the radar of the previous owners of the Crestone also seems like a pipe dream.

MasterofNova

He'd have to at least be level 80 for him to not need to fear for his life during a Jester King reign. If his longer reigns are just a year then I doubt he'd have long enough for that to happen anytime soon.

MasterofNova

As I am compelled to think of what's best for our boy I'm going for the Minotaur route since longer runs are objectively best for his progression. With that said tho, the latter two seem far more interesting with the Jester King sounding like the most entertaining. Depending on how well he does on the Minotaur route I think Simon would actually be ready to go through the Jester one. Although even then I think him attempting it before at least level 60 is foolish but the shear potential of madness in that route is hard to ignore

MasterofNova

Noooo the poll results are wroooong the later 2 options are cooler. Particularly interested in meeting the elves.

Charlie

I prefer the most Chaotic one.

Aakshaj Sharma

Minotaur is the smart play for Simon. His big weakness in any capitol reign right now is that he is criminally under leveled compared to everyone he has to deal with there. Minotaur takes steps to rectify that while also getting him more information about the apocalyptic threat of the Zodiac Parade. Minotaur also builds on what he’s been working on the last few reigns and feels like him taking more control of his reigns, while elf or jester kinda feel like him still flailing. Jester would be a fun read though.

Nachotoad

I feel like a long reign is a wiser decision for him (he needs levels to survive longer on his high intensity reigns) if you think the options will be similarly entertaining I'd go with that. It also seems like a good time to practice more spells and look for a way to hide his aura of darkness better like a magic item that would make me more optimistic about infiltrating the elves. Dryads seem to smell him miles away as is.

Earnest

I mean... Simon is no flower child. And his class DOES open options depending on levels. I get wanting to discover secrets, but it would be an incredibly smart tactical decision to level it up. As in "maximum priority". Sure, he would need to steel himself and kill a few allies, so it's morally dubious. But through inaction the chances of horrible situations increase exponentially. A long day reign where he goes full overlord will serve him well at the price of personal discomfort. Dude is not Quicksave. He has limited repeats AND a measure of responsibility, not a demigod free as the wind who can afford to be the ultimate white knight. Get to leveling HARD

Max Lopo

I'm all in for longer reigns, but I'm afraid that it would cancel Simon pretending to be his dad, since eventually he'll be strong enough that he won't need to take the funny desperation option

João Vene

Question, is there anything that stops a rogue or a vassal class from stealing a class creststone? I know its something that can be given or taken, but im unsure/can't remember if its absorbed into someone and therefore has to be given up willingly or taken from a corpse, kr if its held by someone or on their person and can therefore be stolen? Just curious

Kyle Donmoyer

Hear me out, if put it off long enough, Simon can be as high-level as Balzam while doing the deception And it *still* all falls apart!

Garrett Therkorn

New allies for future reign seems tempting af tho....

Pradian

I mean, I do want him to have a long arc, it only makes sense he would try to live for the whole 2 years and see exactly what happens. But your 2 other options also sound awesome

Halfcrzy

The mask of the jester king not getting picked for the 4th time 💀

Arthur Glenn

These are all going to be good, just pick whatever flows best

SirSteveX

The Minotaur and Elf arcs are the only reasonable arcs in my opinion. Jester is funny, Elf does Jester’s important stuff better. I vote Minotaur because infiltration would be done more easily when Simon is stronger.

A Reader

all of them amazing i really don't know what to pick

George R

Some options may or may not come back in future polls, but I only offer options that make sense for Simon to pick at a given time. So it might be a while before either reappears.

Void Herald

You're tempting me with "Mask of the Jester King," but I really want to know what the elves are up to...

alejandrox

Hard choice

Brenden Theriau

God, is it possible to vote for Season of the Minotaur and then the Mask of the Jester King? I love the idea of the latter, he just needs to get some levels to pull it off better.
