On the terrible idea of a sovereign equity fund, Colin seems to be happy to dig in further on that and only respond to straw men and oversimplified counterarguments like “it’s socialism!” Having actually studied the real and scholarly arguments for why market systems work and overly centralized economies do not, I could go on for a long time, but I’ll just mention these points: 1) The idea that we have “unfettered capitalism” and have seen the failure of that is hilarious. In no remote way at all is the market unfettered and you can trace a lot of criticism of it to unintended consequences of government action; 2) I personally wouldn’t at all argue for NO government regulation of the market, but when you do propose further interference beyond the significant interference we already have, you need to think about those unintended consequences and “distortions” that would result; 3) the claim that the govt would own a stake in American companies and not take a voting role or otherwise use it to interfere in operations (for political and not business ends) is simply not how the world works or will ever work.

Good podcast and informative Couple of things I’d like to comment on: 1. The EA situation, while I mostly agree, one thing that gets overlooked is that the Middle East, South America, and mainland Asia, still have slaves. Actual slaves. Most of it is with forced labor and less than indentured servitude, but I never see this brought up. I hear more about LGBT stuff being brought up over the enslavement of people. They should be called out so it’s good to see, but at the same time, from SNK, they really haven’t changed anything that I’ve known of and let them operate how they want. 2. Also regarding EA: once again, BioWare gets called out about most likely being axed. The only thing in the recent discussion you had on stream with SmashJT (which you 98 percent were in the right during it) that disagree with was your statement about Veilguard. You said didn’t they have 2 million sales, acting like it was in line with their expectations. This was blatantly wrong. It ended up having 1.5-2 million PLAYERS and I believe it was estimated to have actual sales of less than a million. They expected 3 million either sales or players and didn’t reach that. It just sort of contradicts when you tried to act like it was a success, but then once again as many on LSM have stated, BioWare is most likely going to be axed. Other than that, that was the only thing I disagreed with in the discussion/debate. 3. It’s nice having these people on to talk sales. I’ve always been someone who followed sales of games and consoles and for a while at one point it was a lot harder to get sales. With the whole players numbers being thrown around the past few years, which means absolutely nothing except in the context of free to play games to possibly project how many sales the product might be able to produce, it’s nice to see real numbers talk.
