The first scene with Abby struck me as a red flag, a sign that much of the story would be either rushed or handled without nuance. I find this quick turnaround jarring for a show that has taken great strides in elaborating on certain parts of the game (Bill's town).

Wanted to note that I don't think the fungus strands in the water pipe are out of place. The Infected are controlled by a Cordyceps fungus, and fungi create communication networks sometimes intertwining with tree roots, which is what is compromising the pipe. I don't think this breaks the lore since we see Infected rooted to the floor and walls in untouched areas in the game.

I surprisingly had fun with this episode, which is a drastic difference from my experience in the beginning of The Last of Us II. It makes me more interested to see how it gets adapted going forward... Because oh boy, dark days ahead.

She was who Neil wanted for the movie that ended up never happening.

Why did we just gloss over the fact that Joel killed Eugene is new information?

Joey Garcia

I believe the spores in the pipes towards the end of the episode are a call back to season 1 and the new lore of how all the infected and spores are connected. The promo footage of the season shows an attack on Jackson so I'm assuming the swarm is driven to jackson via the spores.

Did they purposefully get the smallest actresses in Hollywood to play Ellie, Dina and Abby? They all legitimately look like children. This is by far my biggest gripe with the show.

Unfortunately agree with Dustin. The game was not spoiled for me so the death scene was out of left field and hit hard. Telegraphing it in the first five minutes takes away from that. My wife already knows what will happen and she has no idea about the games. Still enjoyed episode 1 though.

Nice Beth Phoenix shout out.

I think the tendrils in the pipe is just setting up a reason for Abby to sneak in and kill Joel. I suspect there is going to be a big battle with infected and in the chaos they’ll sneak in and surprise Joel. I don’t think it will play out like it did in the game with Joel and Tommy stumbling upon Abby while on patrol.

Mark Davis

My theory of the infection in the pipe is that is what will cause the horde of infected where Abby is rescued by Joel

The girl playing Abby would have been a great Ellie if they would have done the show a little sooner
