I aren’t active on either Reddit (don’t even have a Reddit account) but it seems everyone who is being banned is left leaning in their views. It comes across as a staggering coincidence that in the build up to the election there were right wing aligned folk making outrageous comments - I saw a death threat to Jaffe in one of the Patreon comments and had to reply to it asking why they weren’t banned for the comment to even be deleted? Now a few months on where we have seen Elon seemingly become a Nazi and Trump having the worst start to any modern era presidency - now it’s time to ban people for making political comments? In this episode Colin makes the point a few times that he is sorry he let it get this far - from what I can tell the backlash has only ramped up on himself for the outlandish comments made pre election and now the chickens have come home to roost it is time to cull? Peculiar. Baffles me why content is even produced centered on politics when people in the community can’t understand a different viewpoint and the people producing the content can’t either. I hope this message isn’t taken as a message from someone who hates anyone on LSM, I am just staggered by the approach taken here. For the record every comment Colin mentioned that was left should absolutely not be tolerated. I just also think comments like that were left constantly pre-election to no culling and people are also being banned for far smaller infringements. We have entered choppy waters indeed.

The worst of this community were truly heinous and I'm curious why a few people calling Colin an idiot, misinformed, etc. is what brought about the ban hammer as opposed to many of us getting called slurs for months on end. In my opinion, I don't like that way of speaking but that is very different for attacking someone for their immutable characteristics. I think he eventually banned some of those people but it took a LONG time lol Also, he keeps saying "if you don't like us leave" but what he's missing is that it's like having a family member or friend with an opposing political opinion. You can still call out that person's bias or opinions you have issues with without throwing out the person. I feel this dissonance about Colin all the time but I hope I'm relatively polite about it. Is this parasocial? You bet ya but literally most of my time at work is spent listening to these guys. Eventually it gets a lil personal feeling. Still though, I love this community and the vast majority of you are good people <3

Though I do think since it’s undefined, if someone skirts the edge of something, I think a warning would be nice for those people. I mean if it’s something like what was said on the show, that’s completely understandable. I do think though it should go both ways. The only time I felt like a guest or a person from Last Stand crossed a line was with Jaffe. He did pretty much call a large portion of the listeners terrible people if they voted for Trump. When he clarified it, it wasn’t any better either. If someone on here comes out just blatantly talking shit about people from Last Stand, with nothing to add, is a banable offense (rightly so), I think the audience deserves enough respect not to be called scum essentially. Game Informer, I just really don’t care about. I lost any respect for that outfit when, I think it was Imran Khan who worked for the magazine, tried to get an actual dev (Yoko Taro) to apologize for the design of 2B. Just felt that was extremely uncalled for an pretty low. Game Informer was a great magazine when I was in Jr High and High School more than 20 years ago. Gamers Republic, PSM, Game Informer, and Play magazine were all great. Sadly, just like gaming websites, the “journalists” working for them just became antagonistic and extremely unlikeable, which includes Game Informer the last 19 years. So I’m out. I’d love for a good boutique type physical magazine though

I feel 90% of this comes up from the political discourse in today's world, which sucks because this is a video games podcast. But its pretty obvious that the most bickering and arguments happen in episodes where you guys mention them in some fashion, and I don't think its right to fully censor someone if they're responding to something you guys discussed on the pod. If they're being downright disrespectful and can't cordially comment then yeah, they should of course be banned. But it's treading a pretty fine line banning people for giving their thoughts/criticism on a political take brought up on the show if they disagree with you, which I have seen some people claim happen.

Functionally, the CCP runs several Tencent subsidiaries. The CCP also recognizes several dozen ethnic minorities in China. They have explicit policies of ethnic cleansing to bring these minority groups into the Han Chinese fold. The policies include erasure of local languages and customs, the closing of religious institutions, coercing ethnic minority women into marrying Han Chinese men in order to dilute ethnic populations and give men a broader pool of partners, etc. etc. This is all documented and openly admitted to by the CCP. I disagree vehemently with most of Colin’s political takes, but I just don’t see the point in making a big stink about it. And I’m certainly not going to resort to any ad hominem attacks, because I wouldn’t want anyone to do that to me, either. I may personally feel like the world is going to hell at the moment, but I also know that no amount of screeching at anyone online is going to change anyone’s mind at this point. I’ve read many people’s political comments and disagreed entirely with them, but then agree with a gaming related comment they make. And that’s a nice feeling, that even though I absolutely disagree politically, we’ve still got this thing that brings us together. I don’t mean to sound like a lame, above-it-all centrist (I’m certainly pretty damn left wing), I just mean to say that we’re all in this life together and I would much rather try to focus on what brings us together in this community.

I rarely comment, but I do think if you’re going to do political commentary, you have to be allowed to take some form of criticism. I also fear that some criticism could be suppressed. We are paying customers and I think there’s some inherent right to complain if something isn’t liked. I agreed with every example you named except one, which is the person saying you aren’t living in reality. Is that really a banworthy offense? I also for the first time checked out the alternative Reddit page, and there’s some shocking accusations of bans for lukewarm posts or for simply engaging in posts outside of the LSM community. I do think that really is a bridge too far. There are actual hosts that have heinous posts on Twitter/bluesky. Why would they be allowed to say those things, but the audience can get punished for things said outside of the official reddit. I think more clarification is needed on this, because I’m feeling kind of weird about all of this. Aside from that, I have no issues banning people that blatantly disrespect hosts in egregious ways inside of the official LSM socials.

Release PS6 in 2030 and have this gen go for 10 years. I know that business is business and if they see an opportunity to make money with a new console, they’ll do it. However, with the console chips being a pain to get for the first couple years, the income issues across the planet during the pandemic, and currently having many people still using the PS4, I feel as though this gen has been stymied by many factors and hasn’t reached its full potential at all. Let alone the live service push from PlayStation that held back many first party teams. I wouldn’t want this generation to boil down to third party games and a failed business practice. Pushing PS6 to 2030 would mean Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac, and basically every other first party studio would have definitely ship at least one (maybe more) game on your current console and help the reputation of it in the future.

2025-03-28 17:05:05 +0000 UTCI get not feeling like you need a code of conduct or any sort of written rules, but that feels like a country saying “We don’t need written laws, we’ll just exile anybody causing shit.” Sounds great in theory, but when you exile someone, being able to point to something that says “You violated this thing that this community deems unacceptable” makes people feel a lot easier and more open to offer criticism or feedback without fear of undue repercussions. People calling you an idiot or a propagandist or worse is definitely over the line, but without defining where that line is, I fear people who may feel like saying “I disagree with X person on Y point” might be scared of getting too close to it, and it’ll temper or squash the open discussion that I think makes this community really great. You always say there’s no political litmus test to be a part of this community, but without a clear set of rules that you can point to, banned people can just a post a screenshot of them being banned and claim it was “because I disagreed with their politics,” and really make people question that sentiment. I wish we could live in a world with no need for anything written down to tell people how to conduct themselves, but it’s been necessary for all of civilized human history, and that’s not going to change anytime soon. Be agressive, but just have some rules to point back to when you are. This is just my two cents though. Sorry people are assholes.
