Sacred Symbols, Episode 330 | Milk It For All It's Worth

It's now obvious that Sony shouldn't have purchased Bungie back in 2022, but considering the transaction did indeed occur, both parties have to make the best out of a less-than-promising situation. After instituting a significant reduction in headcount, poaching key employees for posts within PlayStation proper, and even swiping an entire team and drafting it into PlayStation Studios, Sony has made another play, ingesting Bungie's Creative Studios to help shepherd the wider brand's future service games. How will this entire ordeal play out in the end? We're years away from finding out, but that doesn't stop us from speculating. Plus: Spider-Man 2 is getting a Nixxes-led PC port in early '25, Amazon Prime's God of War project receives a massive personnel overhaul, a recent interview with Guerrilla has some fans longing for more Killzone, and more. We wrap things up (as always) with listener inquiries. Have we reached a dead end with game design? Are 60 frames plenty, or should we ultimately strive for 120? How might Sony celebrate PlayStation 2's 25th anniversary next year? Are we able to convince a skeptical fan that -- yes, indeed! -- 'tchotchke' is a real word?

I’ve played persona 4 and 5 guileless and used a guide on P5 Royal and P3R and will never go back. It’s more fun for me this way. I’m an adult who doesn’t have time to miss important parts of the game. Also if you are the type of dork who goes out of there a to judge how a person plays his game just means you have too much time in life. Colins right on this one 🤷‍♂️😂

Draven E.

This actually may be true, but one thing Collin had said semi recently was he really regrets doing is taking the Covid shot. Chris constantly talks about how retarded people are for questioning it now or ever in the past. Even to this day they bring it up on Snark Tank about once a month and they are really nasty to anybody who ever questioned it ever.

Seth

Colin is barely right wing. Socially, he’s as liberal as Chris, I don’t think there’s that much tension there.

YP-Berserk

In terms of the guide part… I say let people play how they like to play, as long as it’s a single player experience that doesn’t ruin someone else’s. Who gives a shit. Leave your Boi Colin alone. He’s likes to play solo, his style does not ruin anyone else’s.

Samuel Zamora

I agree, hyperbole talk when PS3 comparisons are thrown out

Alec Davis

Colin's the type of guy to read a choose your own adventure book in sequence to get the ultimate experience

Cornelius

Why does Colin State that Kratos is 7 foot 8? It's been made clear that in the reboot, he's about 6 foor 4. Look it up guys. Do these fellas really think that child Atreus is 6 foot? 😂 Even if they're doing the old Kratos, I'm sure they'll just retcon.

Bailey Callis

Please, for the love of God, make a video of Colin and Chris sipping tea, while reading a book/paper. We can even have Dustin silently editing footage, with only the sound of the mouse click.

Jakob Podstawek

People care way too much about how others play their games. Everyone can and should play the game however they want to

Andrew Long

I get what Colin is saying but playing the game with a guide is you playing someone else's game, you didn't really play your game. Do you know which other people see everything in a game? The people that watch YouTube long plays

Fotis Lyto

According to a portion of LSM, yes. There is no wrong way of playing anything. I think there are no rules, but I just dislike that people like Colin want to have their cake and eat it too. - Yes you played every single moment with a guide so your opinion has less value. Its really no different than playing with cheats, no damage mode or rewinds (something he says that if you use you ‘really’ haven’t beaten Mega Man)

Dick Stillhard

Guides certainly have a purpose, and people can do what they want. As an example though, if you use a guide to tell you EVERY next move in chess, are you a chess player?

Micah Locke

Why do you Care? Does it affect you how people enjoy games?

Dustin Johnson

I have played and platinumed both Horizon games. To me they are 7.5/10 games. The story is okay, the characters are meh and the combat and world are fun and beautiful. I think the lack of good characters and a story I care about is what brings it down so heavily for me. By the time I was finishing up the 2nd one I was just ready for it to be over.

Dustin Johnson

Saying something looks like a PS3 game is just bizarre. PS3 had powerhouses like Crysis 3, RDR, and TLOU. They all had the fidelity of modern products even today, but ran like ass. Metaphor looks better than my recent plat, FF13-2 by a long stretch and runs in FHD+ and a smooth 60 fps. Only glaring issue is the damn anti-aliasing / dynamic resolution adding the damn shimmering which seems to be finding it's way into everything.

Lawson72

Dustin hating on OG silent hill 2’s cutscenes personally offended me

The pale midget from the new mad max movie

You touched on physical games being cheaper than digital in Japan. I can say it's similar here in the UK. Recently I bought Silent Hill 2 physical for £54 at Argos in the UK and it's the same price on Amazon too and digital is £60 on PSN I also bought Until Dawn physical for £52 from Argos and it's digital edition is £60 on PSN. I wonder why... This mystery must have a reason

AJ The Turtle UA GB

£380 for a diskless PS5 in the uk, as a PC enthusiast you simply CANNOT build a PC that'll play PS5 games the way the PS5 simple as that

AJ The Turtle UA GB

I am basing my opinion above just on how much hatred he has for right wing people and its starting to come out every single episode on the Snark Tank.

Seth

That's a crazy para-social take from you. It's possible to be friends with Republicans, might sound crazy but not all of them are degenerates.

Pan Ic

I use guides for Silent Hill 2's puzzles but I'm also a bitch for that and I understand I am missing a part of the experience by using a guide. Just be honest with yourself lol

Gooch Gobbler

In a recent episode, Tim had no idea that Miles Morales was a successful game financially (let alone one of the most successful games of all time) and this is a game that KF fuckin loves and goes on about endlessly. How do you not know it was an incredibly successful game as someone who is supposed to be an expert in this industry?

Gooch Gobbler

WTF is wrong with people man.....

Gooch Gobbler

Colin playing every game with a guide is not REALLY playing a game in the same way that AI art is not REALLY art. No, I will not elaborate

Gooch Gobbler

My heart sank when Colin said he played the first two Danganronpa games with a "go here-then go here" guide. I don't think seeing (or not seeing) all the content is the issue for me; it's that the core idea of each Danganronpa game is "playing detective" to solve each case. So if a guide told you to go-to-this-room-and-look-here, then you've removed that entire core concept, which in my opinion is what makes the games fun and worth playing in the first place. Play games the way you want, obviously... no judgment (but also judgment).

Kevin Cooper

I wanted Spider-Man 2 DLC for them to buy back my disappointment with the game, but they'd have to redo it to really do that. It's smart for them to move on. I hope Peter can have another journey with a not-outright-evil version of the Venom symbiote, later on. "Hey, uh, sorry. My father controlled my mind with the meteor. No hard feelings. I'm a big fan!"

Max Stahl

I go into every game blind. Then if I want to platinum i look at a guide. I'd rather miss some things and experience it organically, than plan out my playthrough. Thats just me

Jacob Lesperance

There is a wrong way to play games. Full stop. When people argue the contrary, dig deep enough into what they’re into and watch how they will rationalize that you played it wrong. Doki Doki Lit Club guided walkthrough? You don’t wanna miss content! Theres a fine line between options and intent. Playing Metaphor as a book is obviously breaking the intent of the game and is actively deleterious. Your opinion of this game will be tainted by this; it’s not to say you cant play it like that.

Dick Stillhard

KF is difficult to listen to. Word salads every pod

Alec Davis

My guess of his income from Collin is based on him doing nothing for years while he has been on Sacred Symbols. He pretty much stopped making YouTube videos altogether (though he constantly says I am working on a video) and his primary income from what I see would have to be Sacred. At least until Snark Tank Patreon picked up in the last couple of years. He has constantly lived in one of the most expensive places in the US comfortably so if it's not 100k its gotta be damn close high 80's/90's and I would estimate his highest portion of income.

Seth

Dustin, Any chance we can do another AMA on Japan? I went for my first time after your first trip and I know that my second trip would be on another level given what I learned from the first time. Interested to hear more about your experience.

Steve Bitto

Anne Frank was in Amsterdam

Glen Yelenovic

Brah there's no way Colin is paying Chris that much.

Josef Barker

I've never heard risotto pronounced like it's said in this episode. So wrong.

Josef Barker

This is a misleading argument. If a person is choosing to engage in content, then it's not unreasonable for them to want to experience all of it, or as much of it as they can. The argument of content, content, content is saying there is a crap ton of options for people on the market to choose from. Or, it's also saying there is a lot of filler content in larger games (collectibles, tower takeovers, etc). It would be more significant to miss out on full character stories than it would be to miss out on an extra land that only provided more collectibles and towers to take over. There's no substance except the same gameplay that has been presented throughout that entire game. They are two separate arguments, and to try to argue them as the same thing lacks understanding.

Jamin Fuller

That is some wild stuff to say home boy.

[ Enrique ]

Where the fuck did you pull 100k out of lmao

Daddy T

Or just watch a 100% playthrough on YouTube

Rich Price

I was the same way. I’ve never played a game like NieR before and now it’s a top 5 game for me. Just make sure you see it all the way through. It is worth it

RIPIT

I think Chis secretly hates Collin based on the political views that he has been spouting over at his snark tank podcast. Chris really thinks that people with Right-wing views are subhuman. Collin is paying him 100k a year to work 3-6 hours a week, so he has to pretend so he can suckle on Colins teat. It's quite pathetic actually.

Seth

I just started playing though it and It's so interesting. I never played it because I typically hate anime, but I just got through the Amusement park and I'm kind of like WTF is going on here. I'm excited to see more.

Seth

You do it no more than updating a console, it’s one button press, so no, they don’t have it right.

Brandon V

Dio, you’re an absolute wanker. Please don’t write in again.

Adam Barnes

Dustin, I played NieR: Automata for the first time a few weeks ago. Ending E fucked me up. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played and a favorite of mine now.

RIPIT

Hello fellow potato!

Alexander Fisher

No he wouldn’t

Psuedenti

I didn't know you could play Hellsinger like that lol, sounds awful

Greg McDonald

Listened to the rest of the episode. I can’t believe no one stopped to correct that Kratos is Greek.

Steve

The metaphor argument lacks real empathy I think. Some people get real anxiety about missing things to the point where if they do miss something, they don't even want to play anymore. I can see it both ways, but those who can't need to put themselves in other peoples shoes I think. And you could argue that means the game isn't for them, but they should still be allowed to play it with the accessability features they want to use. Using a guide for a persona like is an accessability feature for people with anxiety. Just see it that way.

Tyler Cumerford

Colin def is broken. But to each their own.

Robbie Agnew

You're not alone Colin Horizon is tight Idk why it can't get a fair shake & Non-spoiler guides are a totally valid way to play, if anything just to make tabs on missable content. Especially rpgs (Half the people bitching are probably gonna use them anyway)

Suk.mexe

An epic rap battle video literally just came out yesterday lol

NecrumOddBoy

That may be a part of the game for you, but not for me. Stay mad that you aren't seeing the full game🤡

Birds Aren't Real

I’m saying that gatekeeping in the case of using vs not using guides to play a game is lame. Anyway, hope that makes more clear my point. Have a great day!

Alan Wake 2 - Alan WOKE

Nah they are right . Even if I have to do it once a year, I hate it enough to prefer consoles. And I have a 4080 so I do plenty of pc gaming

Pianopower

Confidently incorrect . Nice

Pianopower

Part of the game is weighing options . Are you weighing options when using a guide?

Pianopower

Using a guide is retarded, but I could give a flying fuck about how you wanna play the game .

Pianopower

Because it’s retarded

Pianopower

Soo…what are you bitching about

Pianopower

Colin was saying we've not had an FPS since Shadow Fall. I mean, technically, we had Concord lol

Greg McDonald

As far as god of war. It might end up being a shit tv series. But these guys are talking like they’ve never seen the lord of the rings trilogy.

Benji_B2sick

And he’s also still Greek, not Nordic himself, so while I’d have other issues with casting Jason Momoa, I don’t think he’d be too ethnic for the role lol

Jared R

I work 70 hours a week man I hardly have any time as a trucker

Alyssa

Chris was still able to do his job while barely playing this week 🤷‍♂️

Michael McCoy

There is no false equivalence. You just don't like it because it applies to you. Like a said.. superiority complex. Really shameful way to live, buddy.

Birds Aren't Real

It's a perfectly fine analogy. You just don't like it because it applies to you.

Birds Aren't Real

Yeah I think saying it suggests he didn't like the game was a bit strong, but I think my overall point still strong.

Zac Lebeau

The guide talk comes across as very much gatekeeping. I completely understand the argument that using a guide removes what some would argue is a gameplay element, but I have to ask: Why does everyone have to enjoy something in the way you deem valid? Why can’t two people enjoy a thing for different reasons? I know Dustin has his ideas about Metaphor, but it is gatekeeping. Of course, Colin definitely wanted to discuss it, so…🤷‍♂️ Enjoy what you enjoy and don’t let anyone tell you you’re doing it wrong!

Alan Wake 2 - Alan WOKE

Base building in fallout 4 is not a core system to the game. A better analogy would be if someone played an fps and only used a knife. You can't really trust that person's opinion on how the game functions as a shooter. I can trust your opinion on the the story or the graphics or the soundtrack, but I can't really trust your opinion on how it functions as a fps.

Zac Lebeau

The Kratos in Norse God of War is only 6' 4".

Cory Knudsen

Idahoan here, I use tchotchke strictly because of this podcast

DeathByClams

One might think those would be related

Ryan

Colin, if people used guides to 100% Symphony of the Night, of The Last of Us, or whatever other game you love, you would be the first to say they didn’t engage with the game properly.

Cormac

I think Colin is maybe mixing up Spoilers and Immersion. Sure you aren’t being spoiled, but you certainly aren’t letting yourself get immersed in the world of the game when using a guide as often as he says he does

Steve

It isn’t every week, Chris just went through the whole Mass Effect trilogy and he’s actually been playing more than usual (from what I remember). His job isn’t really to play games, it’s to commentate about the games industry.

Michael McCoy

So refreshing being here and hearing these things honestly lol. I watched kinda funny for 2 years and was beyond irritated with their obnoxious agendas. If I ever see “watch our live reactions!” content again I’ll vomit in my own hands.

Garrett Shelton

Refusing to interact with a games system doesn't inherently mean you don't like the game. I don't like base building in fallout 4 but I still like fallout 4. Saying your not really playing the game is crazy town

Brandon Zepeda

2:27:00 - "You're not going to play this again." I would argue that many do, in fact, play these Persona team games again as is evidenced by the complete editions (P3P, P3FES, P4G, P5R, Catherine Full Body). Anecdotally, I've played through all of those several times. Im sure that doesnt extend to the average player, but Ive enjoyed experiencing them blind on my first run, and using a guide for my subsequent playthroughs.

Cameron

Every week? Where your job is to play video games

Ryan

Dude, some of us are actually busy. I love playing games but sometimes I only have 1-2 hours a week to play.

Michael McCoy

You can trace my complaint with Spirit ashes back to Solaire in Dark Souls. They obviously didn't play test it much or adjust the AI to account for it. The response to it in SotE was more AOE attacks. Bloody lazy devs. The people complaining about about other people using them need to sod off and just be happy more people are enjoying Fromsoft games.

AngelOfCake

I can actually see where Colin is coming from on using the guide. It's the most time efficient way to get to see everything. An interesting follow up question would be... if he didn't have a backlog longer than his lifespan would he play the games differently? I was faffing about for about ten hours in Elden Ring when it occurred to me that I could be playing it for a thousand hours if I didn't use a map and wiki. There is too many games I want to get through and its eating into my reading backlog already.

AngelOfCake

Im finally going to check out forbidden west when i get my ps5 pro. Should be the perfect game to play on the more powerful hardware

Tristan Kimball

Agreed. I tell young people all the time to go into trades. I'm a welder I make very good money. I also get to go home on Friday and not think about work again till Monday which i love. When I grew up everyone went to college for something dumb like political science. They look down on you for going to trade school. Who's laughing now?

Flint Dibble and the Dibble singers

The whole tchotchke bit was hilarious 😂

Joe Perez

I mean, I think the big point of conflict has to do with trophies. I would love to freeball a super long RPG, but I also care about getting trophies, so unless the trophy list is designed in a way that it doesn’t take much extra to earn them, I’m gonna be looking at a guide for missable trophies. It’s been a while since I’ve done that, but I do remember getting 1000G on Lost Odyssey back in the day, following a guide and it didn’t affect my enjoyment. Still one of my all-time favorites.

Alan Wake 2 - Alan WOKE

We’re really heading towards the worse version of automation, using AI to create art, when the original idea was to automate more menial tasks to free up time for people to do more art.

Alan Wake 2 - Alan WOKE

Colin, I completely missed the DS Castlevania games so I wasn’t aware of release order until after I had beaten Order of Ecclesia in the Dominus collection. Oh well.

Brett Altmiller

Chris play games challenge. 2-3 hours (30mins-1hour in reality) of SH2 in a week? That’s it?

Ryan

The idea that people should/will just buy a PC if games go there is ridiculous. "Content creators" and those who engage with them are in a bubble. They imagine everyone has a PC and uses them. I am a pretty serious gamer and never played on a PC and nether do any of my friends. It's not as common as with normal people as the people leading the conversations believe. Not everyone needs to be capturing footage and/or streaming. I just play- on my TV. In other words, it's greatly misrepresented by games media.

LongJohnSivers#1Fan

Dustin: you’re eliminating one of the main intended gameplay elements of the game, choosing how to manage your time Colin: But I’m seeing all the content Also Colin…. We have too much content slop, consume consume consume

Bogey

Colin confusing his review with the general consensus again

WashedAF

https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8bqBpEvqaR/?igsh=ajZidWM1aGhlZTFo Colin about Anne Franks house

Murderer Kevin

I agree with Col on the walkthrough for Persona games being needed as you’ll miss things BUT it’s not needed for Metaphor unless you’re trying to platinum. I finished the game and saw it all, got everything, etc without one. The devs did a great job this time of fixing that and I hope the other team working on P6 does the same. Also, fuck that write in about that not being a legitimate way to play a game or talk about it.

NeO JD

I wrote the initial comment about metaphor and was meant in a tongue in cheek kind of way. I don’t really care how someone plays a game but sitting there with a turn by turn guide is bizarre to me…but to each their own. Quit being so defensive.

UltraGiant

The mental gymnastics at work here are astounding.

Dante B

Yeah the Netherlands is a tiny country. But like Colin always says about games we have "a lot of development per square inch". Or per meter to make it more accurate.

Dennis

I think people should play games however they want. The only think I agree with a few comments on is that Colin shouldn’t criticize people getting trophies when using rewind features in games if he uses guides to get trophies.

Jared R

Wait wait, I'm not a comic nerd by any stretch of the imagination. But I heard Colin refer to Professor Xavier's handicap chair as a wheel chair. Yet I'm 80% certain it has no wheels and actually hovers. Does any of it matter. Of course not.

OrochiNewsTeam

AI is a long way from completely automating those roles. At the moment, for every role you'll try to automate you're probably adding just as many man hours figuring out where and why it went wrong but maybe in a couple decades. Your last line is spot on though. We need more plumbers, welders and air conditioner maintenance people. I'm serious here. You have a child thinking about career, go look at the day rate and how under utilised we are in those areas. They'll never be out of work and would probably retire at 55.

AngelOfCake

I’m not trying to yuck anyone’s yum at all, but I just can’t imagine equating seeing all the content in the game as getting the most out of it, as opposed to enjoying a game most fully as it was meant by the developers to be experienced. It’d be like living life with constant FOMO. I’m not even saying this specifically in regards to Metaphor. They basically build in a guide themselves with letting you view what others players did in a day (which if you follow the majority consensus, will have you at max companion/virtue rating by the end). It’s just the philosophy in general.

Jared R

An interesting observation I've had about AI and automation is what has occurred has been the opposite of what we assumed. I'm a tradesmen and the jobs I keep seeing get taken by automation are desk jobs. AI can do data entry, code, HR etc. You will never see a robot roof a house, prep and paint a house, install a sink, HVAC. I've seen some automated welding machines but they all need to same manpower to look after them as they did to weld. Learn to code was wrong. Learn to build is what we should have been saying.

Flint Dibble and the Dibble singers

Well football is real life and anything can happen week to week. Also it’s not anime which is a huge plus and automatically makes it a higher tier of entertainment. Mostly joking.

JT

Man sometimes I wonder if I’m just in la la land. I’ve never once thought about someone else using a guide or any sort of help in anyway for a game, for any reason. Including whether or not they have the “authority” to speak on a games quality. Idk I feel like someone could just watch a long play of a game on YouTube and still provide interesting thoughts on a game. I suppose I understand why someone might think it’s “lame”, but why do you need to act like it is literally a wrong way of going about it?

Zack E

My brother in law played metal hellsinger with the rhythm function off. That’s basically the experience that explains best what persona fans feel Colin is doing with the guide stuff.

Zachary Beach

If nothing else it’s cringey af. Like without a doubt. People are so weird, even if it’s played up it’s still bizarre. “You aren’t gaming good enough!!!!” Good grief.

Zack E

McDonald’s is good every time if you get a quarter or double quarter pounder because they have to make it fresh. Found out this episode about the ecoli and I had 2 last week lmao.

Caleb Peacock

Everyone who writes in about the metaphor guide stuff is so lame and gate-keepy. It’s basically the spirit ashes from Elden ring again. Just chill and let people have fun I use a guide intermittently because not everything is strategy or logic when it comes to time management. Some events and items are missable but you’d have no way of knowing beforehand. And.. anyone who does platinum these games is lying if they say they don’t use a guide.

Chris

Colin, Kratos is a Greek god; he’s not ethnically Nordic. Jason Momoa could pull that off.

drumlord

Yeah, Castlevania II was obviously released in that state in order to sell Nintendo Hotline minutes. Both the game and hotline debuted in 1987. I will die on this hill.

Jimmy G

“The full experience of driving?” You have way too much confidence for an analogy this horrible.

Jimmy G

Love you guys but 73 Metacritic Shadowfall was a Killzone high point? No way.

Your Boi Nicky V

“I’m just kidding, I’m not getting defensive” *18 minutes later* Comparing the use of a guide on Zelda 1 or Castlevania 2 to a Persona game is crazy. But that’s our boy Colin.

Diddy’s Dong Quest

Replied to above, but i don’t think your point holds water. It might be valid if all seasons of one piece ever came out in one year. Otherwise, much like sports teams playing seasons for years, they’ve been releasing episodes since 1999 so more than 20 years

Steve

I can compare them . Watch me. 1 season of football say 17 games is about 54 hours 1 season of One Piece which is roughly 200 episodes is about 73 hours It’s not far off and that’s only if you watch one team. I think football is just treated like a religion or something greater than it is by a lot of people. Unless you are on the team actively working for the NFL, it’s simply entertainment. Entertainment…nothing more nothing less. Is there a fan aspect and camaraderie? Yes, but you’ll find the same fan spirit at an anime convention. It’s akin to the argument that film is a greater form of media than video games.

Steve

Dude... a football team plays 17 games a season. Once a week for a few months. You can't compare following a football team to an insanely long series. Next you're going to be the guy telling everyone to log how much cummulative time we spend tying our shoes and try to make it into some kind of deep pseudo intelligent point. Stand down.

Jason

Dude... a football team plays 16-17 games a season. Once a week for a few months. You cannot compare these things.

Jason

Nice false equivalence with the driving analogy. A core part of these Atlus games is choosing what to do with your free time like Dustin said. If you are following a guide you aren't choosing shit, you're just following what the guide writer told you to do. Does that make sense?

Ice Slice

Following a day by day guide in Metaphor or Persona is pretty pathetic and lame, Dustin should've given you more shit.

Ice Slice

After the Concord debacle, it's not a huge shock Sony wants the Destiny people taking a more active role in their live service initiative. They can't afford to waste $400 million dollars too many times.

Sascha Lichtenstein

It's pretty common in any city with a large Jewish or Eastern European population, as are many other Yiddish words.

Sascha Lichtenstein

We all benefit from more use of Yiddish in our dialect.

Sascha Lichtenstein

Guys we HAVE to get Colin to finish Attack on Titan. Dustin you hit the nail on the coffin while you were appealing to him about it. It’s a masterpiece, dare I say Colin, that I think this would be one of if not your favorite piece of fiction.

Cyprus Davis

Can't read? I never said that. I said that if they can't see the logical problem in their argument then they have a superiority complex because they have nothing else going for them. I never said if they disagreed with me then they have nothing going for them.

Birds Aren't Real

The CG cutscenes in OG Silent Hill 2 are amazing. Stand down with the zoomer brainrot Dustin.

WashedAF

Let me know when we get a high quality stealth game or arcade racer instead of another metroidvania

WashedAF

I have no problem with using guides either, but saying that everyone who disagrees with you has nothing going for them is extremely immature.

WashedAF

Fat Gettys is still the town fool at kinda funny so, don’t feel too bad

Ryan

Alot of hate in the comments today damn.. Play metaphor how you want Colin, i think your mad but it's really not my business. Also I don't mind the main character being soft spoken. Let's keep it real lsm fam.

JustKyle92

I'm totally with Colin on using guides. I just don't see the argument that you're not engaging with the full experience if you use one. Which I think is total bullshit. I'm assuming the people saying that use maps when they drive somewhere. By their logic I guess they aren't engaging with the full experience of driving since they aren't looking at every street name looking for where to go. It's absolutely preposterous. I understand that most gamers have a superiority complex because they don't have anything else going for them, but if you don't see the logical fallacy of your stupid argument then you're either ignoring it or just retarded.

Birds Aren't Real

I've been doing this more. I bought Balatro 3 times lol (PS5, switch, mobile)

How many of the grifters who shed crocodile tears that the team who created the Lost Crown were disbanded actually played the game? They have no problem creating videos and tweeting about it but who actually played this game? I got the platinum in January so I did my part. If Remedy were shut down because no one played or bought Alan wake 2 you would see the same grifters complaining about it. I beg people to buy the good fucking games that are created for us. There’s no games? How about you fucking buy them and show up when these teams make high quality shit.

Michael Mashpotato

The misrepresentation of PC gaming on this show is so wild. The idea that driver updates are a common or hard thing is just so fucking funny. It is no different than updating your PS5. Dustin lives in 2010 when it comes to PC gaming. Absolutely zero fucking clue what he is talking about.

Brandon V

Persona fans are almost as insufferable as Souls fans at this point.

Special Needs Cannon

Stealing my comment 😭

Eric Smith

THANK YOU DUSTIN. the protagonist voice in Metaphor is fucking awful. I’m 50 hours in and I hate it just as much as hour 1 lol

Diddy’s Dong Quest

To each their own and all that of course, but playing an RPG that way would suck all the fun and wonder out for me every time. Plenty of other genres that hold your hand, these are for adventure!

Noah Friscopp

I hate hearing the strategy guide conversation over and over again. Literally every time Colin goes "it's fine I don't really care" and then proceeds to go on rants where he does nothing but get defensive. It's like "yeah dude, I think you do care." No one brought up spoilers. Not Dustin, Chris, or either of the two write-ins mentioned the guide spoiling the game. Yet he constantly says "all this because of a guide that didn't spoil anything for me!" It's not about spoilers. You're refusing to engage with an entire element of the game. You like the story, but you aren't playing the actual game. And that's totally fine, but it's hard to take your opinion on the "game" aspect very seriously. And again, that's totally fine. Use a guide if you want. I don't care, nor have I ever cared. I'm just entirely sick of hearing you get defensive over it like Christ dude let it the fuck go. You're a forty year old man. Get over this shit.

Zac Lebeau

You should try movies, all story no gameplay

Brandon V

I think that’s valid…but the write in didn’t bother to even look it up and wanted to make him look bad…therein lies the rub

Steve

I've never liked them, frankly. -Colin

Colin Moriarty

How many hours is a single game though? With ads of course. Edit: did some quick math. That would be roughly 2931 hours of football (with ads) vs 366 hours of One piece . And still i agree that’s a lot of anime! If you even just watched every jets game since 2000 that’s about 1200 hours

Steve

The Jets have played 916 games in 64 years. LOL.

Colin Moriarty

You tried Dustin and I commend you for it. Colin is a lost cause when trying to explain to him the nuance of a persona team game and why a natural play through is the most rewarding and immersive play experience the way the developers intended. I too look up guides for help but not to the degree of following that maddening document Collin printed out for this. You might as well just not play the game if your ocd makes you play the game like a collage homework assignment.

As a One Piece fan I think the 1000 manga episode criticism only shows how ignorant people are about Oda’s universe, and how assuming they are into thinking its only a silly shonen. I know tons of people who started reading OP, caught up, and now understand how ignorant they sounded repeating that same comment.

Romeo

One Piece is not only about the treasure, its about the sociopolitical and cultural rules that reign over its world. Its also about freedom, and the human condition. I actually think there are a lot of themes that Colin would appreciate in it. Its some of the best fiction ever made, if not the best.

Romeo

Colin, do you even like video games anymore or are you just going through the motions?

Brandon V

I feel like Colin has started saying Tchotchke noticeably more since that one Concord trailer

Absolute Butter

It's in every way different

Phil Walker

I don’t watch One Piece, and i get the 1000 episodes criticism, but is it any different from watching every football game every season for you whole life? At a certain point, it has to feel repetitive. Some people go as far as watching all the Sunday games, etc. You could say you’re invested in the success of the team, but some folks would say they are just as invested in their favorite heroes.

Steve

And supports a shit team as well

Daddy T

I'm 36 years old and I've never heard the word tchotchke before. I remember "Chotskie's" in Office Space. So go easy on the guy that wrote in. It's not a common word.

Mike Held

Colin busting Dustin's balls over the number of One Piece episodes is baffling. He probably watches more sports in one year than it would take to finish the entire Anime....

Eric Smith

Amends were never made. Colin didn't even get invited to Beyond! episode 600 back in 2022. And yeah, this is first discussed in Jaffe's first ever appearance on Sacred Symbols + around summer 2021, where he asked Colin about this and it was the first time we heard Colin talk about this candidly (he was respectful too, of course). He was on Rogan twice in 2017. Don't know why he was never invited again. Perhaps because Rogan isn't really interested in the gaming space, as when Colin went on Rogan, he was more of a history channel and conversational podcast with different types of people (Fireside Chats, RIP).

Faan

It’s been brought up many times, but you can also check out Colin’s “Sidescrollers” appearance for some more info. There’s an episode with Jaffe that also digs in a bit (someone else would have to specify).

Alan Wake 2 - Alan WOKE

The Castlevania Dominus Collection is in timeline order. Dawn of Sorrow takes place in the modern day so it's last, Portrait of Ruin is set during WW2, I think, so it's second, and Order of Ecclesia is before that.

DJChazzyCheff

I’m learning of EVERYTHING Colin for the first time today. Joe Rogan Kinda Funny Fallout Went down the rabbit hole and now ready to fight Tim Gettys. Anyone know if amends were ever made? Just curious, not trying to start nonsense.
