For starters, PS5's Astro Bot is getting weekly -- and totally free -- content over the next month-plus, while the Until Dawn film has been given an April '25 release date for its arrival in theaters as rumors surrounding a sequel to the 2015 game continue to percolate. Plus: Helldivers 2 received another major update, Sony revealed an in-person PlayStation concert series, Dino Crisis is locked to PS+ Premium for some reason, and Bandai Namco is reportedly exploring headcount reductions leveraging a shady Japanese corporate tradition: Oidashibeya, an evolution of another tactic called madogiwazoku. Listener inquiries tie things up on the back end, per usual. If Donald Trump wins the presidency, will gaming consoles in America be strapped with a tariff? Most of the content creators I watch are constantly demonitized for simple things like saying "knife" or "kill" in the first 10 mins, or getting flagged and not getting a reason why even with a YouTube agent. They bumped the price and free users are automatically flooded with 5X the adds, which are double adds that you cant skip sometimes, and now they are talking about possibly doing IP based anti addblocker. And finally, it just feels kinda scummy to pay to get rid of adds YouTube is already getting paid for to host on their platform. Just throwing out a perspective of a non premium member hope you guys have a great week!

I can tell when it happens but it doesn’t bother me that much, same as pixel smearing on TAA. But I can see how it would be annoying to some who except a very clear picture with no artifacting. I just don’t think modern engines are focusing on that anymore

2024-10-20 13:00:22 +0000 UTCConcerning the "sparkling" and "flickering" Colin and other have been noticing in games such as Alan Wake 2 and Silent Hill 2, that is just a consequence of how modern engines ray traced lightning (Lumen is called on UE5) even when there is no specific hardware acceleration for it (like you'd see in an RTX graphics card on PC). It's not just you Colin, it exists - some people may be more sensitive than others on it. Simply put, the engine casts some rays in directions repeatedly to see how shadows and reflections go, but since the PS5 has comparatively lower performance capabilities (compared to, say, an RTX 4090), there aren't enough rays for the coverage to be smooth. So, one frame some pixel might be hit, next one it's not, and over time it gives an effect of "grain" or "sparkling" or "noise". This also happens on PC if you set raytracing qualities to low. This is the kind of thing PS5 Pro is hoping to address with the PSSR upscaler and the increased render and raytracing capabilities. Ray Tracing is, in general, very taxing on any system, but it's a modern feature so they put it in games even if results in these issues in particular on the 60FPS modes - the PS5 is just powerful enough to do all the things at the same time.

2024-10-20 10:52:04 +0000 UTCFrom a Silent Hill fan perspective. SH 1, 2, and 3 are fantastic. Silent Hill 4 is a game that has some cool ideas but never felt like a a true SH game. Silent Hill Origins is fantastic but screws up the timeline and characters we grew so fond of. Everything after that is way below average when it comes to being apart or the franchise with the exception of Shattered Memories, that was a very interesting take on rebooting the original story. These are just my opinions of course but I would love to see really detailed remakes of 1, 3, and Origins. Specifically if they unfuck the changes to Alessa in Orogins

The game is sparkly as hell, there’s constant frame drops when entering new areas, and there’s artifacting every time you orbit the camera around James. And speaking of the camera, I find it mega distracting, like James is constantly in the way of what I’m trying to look at. It’s zoomed in too close when outside and zoomed out too much when inside. Both of these issues combined make the game almost unplayable for me tbh.

2024-10-19 15:37:07 +0000 UTCRegarding the question about documentaries or gaming documentaries, some topics came to my mind: the success of Fez and the sudden cancellation of its sequel, Fez 2, Naughty Dog's shift in the PS3/PS4 generations and Amy Hennig's exit, as well as obviously the Konami/Kojima drama. Would love to see an actual documentary on these subjects. But I doubt we'd see actual info come out on the latter topics, seeing as how secretive corporations are (especially Konami). I like seeing documentaries that follow the making of a game - Respawn's Jedi: Fallen Order documentary was good, as well as Naughty Dog's documentaries on The Last of Us, but, at the same time, these docs are obviously biased and kind of appear as puff pieces.

It seems like even though there may be different themes and messages from series to series, there’s a certain laziness inherent when you can run down a checklist and make a note of every archetype and trope present. Elves, orcs, wizards, dragons, etc. You have to kind of accept that those are givens and look for the deeper differences.

He also has videos talking about how to tweak the tv in general. I know it's not your thing Colin to care all that much about graphics BUT with a super nice OLED like the CX, it's absolutely worth taking some time to set it up. Proper HDR will make your weewee vibrate. The newer God Of War games and the Spiderman games have top notch hdr. So does Ghost of Tsushima

I know it can be a bit annoying, but I did the same for my OLED, and the difference was immediate and significant. Of course, he could also wait for the PS5 Pro to come out, and then decide if the settings need tweaking or not. Either way, he'll be playing the best version. This game is incredible - just finished it, and it's truly a masterpiece!

I had to jump through hoops and eventually get LG to send out a tec to fix it. He had to take it apart and send a part of the tv back to LG. It not works great since he got the new part.

Other than that the only way to play it is through emulation or having the original consoles which are pushing 2 decades at this point.
