Arthur is bound by the ground rules set by Sophie. She saying he’s clueless but really he’s obeying the rules. We’ve seen him loosen up a bit with them and both girls don’t mind it (rather they like it more). But too not lose a strong relationship with either of them, he’s made up his mind to not make it awkward for them by having to choose between them. A respectful decision with a major downside I’m afraid. But we shall see where their relationship(s) go in the future.

Too bad the women can't take the chance of rejection if they ask him and he turns them down. That tends to be the first thing out of many lady's mouths; "Why don't they ask me? Agreed! Many people think men are clueless, but honestly it's really just fear.
