2025-10-23 14:45:39 +0000 UTCWe all make our own choices in life β yes, it's unwise to choose the streets over being an "upstanding citizen" but the storyline with Ats and even with Ra'nell literally showed us the conditions that lead to boys making the decision to step into the streets. It's unwise, but it's not like there's anyone there that can really guide and provide for these boys and it seems like the best decision. While Black and brown people now may arguably have all the same opportunities available to them as white folk it doesn't mean the game isn't still rigged against them or that they aren't playing from a severe deficit. Roshi's logic during that scene is the exact logic that governments use to justify deportations even of folk who emigrated as a child with no say in the matter and ARE tax-paying and law-abiding citizens β they'll get lumped in just the same and called a criminal or gang member because that's all they want to see. Kieron could have been a month, a week, even a day away from turning his life around before this happened β we don't know his story. It's a mistake to reduce him to a "criminal" to justify the government literally breaking the law by deporting him. There are laws for a reason, and if the LAWMAKERS won't even abide by them or continue to bend them to do their often racist (implicitly or otherwise) bidding without anyone standing up and saying hey this is wrong, that is exactly how you get holocausts, apartheids, ethnic cleansing, and authoritarian leadership that turns countries into a powder keg.
