That's what makes Daniel special, he's a good listener. Even when he was being tortured, Daniel was still genuinely listening to Armand's story.

This is what Luke Brandon Field (Young Daniel) said about shooting the scene: "just by listening to him, I felt like I was in a trance. I felt like I was fighting. And I cried! I cried in his arms after we shot the scene, and I had to take a minute outside and just chill, have a coffee and a cigarette". Like is bro OK?

This show really is a masterclass, in writing, directing, acting etc. But what it truly excels at is adapting the source material. Rolin took a decades old book that literally is written for the times it was published in and adapted it for the modern audience. He made major changes but all of the changes elevated the story and didn't hinder it. Other writers for adaptations CANNOT say the same and might want to call Rolin for some tips (House of the Dragon writers lol).
