I understand what you mean. I do not fault women with the mentality you described, given the mindset of many/most/whatever men you alluded to. Hence another key phrase you mentioned are "reasonable people" It could be argued there are more unreasonable people than in reverse, which is why this type of conversation even persists. I find these topics interesting because I get the possibility of reading/hearing and better understanding the context people have with relationships w/in their sexual orientation. I've never had a romantic relationship, so I cannot relate to the feeling of wishing to maintain a platonic relationship with a past romantic partner, let alone feeling the need to discuss such a matter with my current romantic partner. But I can understand this from someone else's POV, given when I hear them talk about what it is that they value while spending time with this other person.

I agree. The "exes can't be friends" nonsense always depends on extreme hypothetical situations like Sheera offers to actually make sense. Roshi's objections are coming from a reasonable standpoint. If we're talking about reasonable people then this shouldn't even be an issue. If we're talking about unreasonable people then this topic isn't the issue, but something you yourself need to explore and work on. While I can agree that a lot of women hold this view. I also insist that this view only exists because the vast majority of men do not value relationships with women outside of romantic or sexual ones. Women know this and so they are immediately distrusting of any relationship their partner has with a woman. To that I say find a better partner if you think they as a person cannot find platonic value in a relationship with a person that they previously engaged with romantically. I also suggest that you look within yourself and ask why your partner needs to quantify relationship value. I shouldn't need to give you a reason for why I want to stay friends with someone. I am human and I value my friendships. Respectability politics should have nothing to do with it.

Nice comment. The main point I see is clarifying what exactly am I or my current romantic partner doing with this prior romantic partner of ours? Any relationship gets maintained through interactions. The topic here is similar to the whole "can opposing sexes be friends with one another" conversation. Just like from before, it should start with clarifying first what exactly are these people doing during their encounters. Rarely do I often read such clarifying remarks in these types of conversations. From my experience reading these discussions online the conversations usually starts and stops at key buzzwords like a title of a "friend" or "platonic relationship", which carry weight but not the whole luggage. Additional context is needed.

In my humble opinion, I think Sheera's arguments at the end of stream come from a place of toxicity. At the end of the day, I will never fix my mouth to justify my relationship with anyone to anyone else. If you can easily drop someone out of your life after an extensive romantic relationship, then that relationship was cooked anyways. It has nothing to do with respect, but about control. I've never understood why people think that it's crazy to be friends with an ex. Lets assume you both are mature individuals. Given that you've established boundaries, a friendship with someone shouldn't even be crossing them in the first place. If your romantic relationship with someone was so shallow that you'd just cut them off out of "respect" for someone else, then I would question wtf kind of foundation was built during that romantic relationship. And then the mere fact that I had a romantic relationship with someone doesn't mean that that's the only value I found in them. That's so demeaning. You can say all you want about you not trusting the other person. But you should be able to trust that your partner can make good judgments of character and that they'll cut it off if a line is crossed. Anything else is borderline controlling and insecure imo.

Not entirely relevant to the ep, but heavy agree with Roshi in the end discussion (as a woman myself) - expectations and boundaries like that are something to be discussed early on, with forsureee different levels to things. You will never find me prioritizing a romantic relationship (particularly a new/potential one) over a long time friendship (having dated or not dated), and the only way I can really see that being reassessed more is if boundaries are clearly crossed in the sense that someone comes onto the other despite knowing they're with someone else, or tries to sabotage the relationship or something. Granted while I think trying to tell someone to just drop people (who haven't done anything wrong) is unreasonable, I don't think making it clear what you are and aren't comfortable with is. Could totally understand someone saying they may not want you hanging out alone with said person all the time and stuff like that. That's all just to say that I resent the idea that romantic relationships are automatically seen as the trump card or priority in so many situations, when I don't really think that should be the case, and can often just be a breeding ground for toxicity as well. Not strange at all to want to maintain a friendship for the sole sake of friendship and nothing else, especially if you consider circumstances where they could have just been friends long before dating and such also.

Def agree on the Devin v Virginia thing, mostly because I remember the crowd’s reaction at their wedding and the sadness and disappointment was REAL. Even Virginia’s own dad said to Devin that he was a good guy and apologizing to him. She just wasn’t attracted to him, thought he had some potential but ultimately decided it wasn’t enough. Dude's whole personality can be boiled down to basketball and God. That's all he ever really spoke about. Virginia had to bring up stuff like finances. Yeah the only part that I have a problem with Sara and Virginia was that they should've cut it off sooner. Everybody could see clear as day how their politics aligned. And frankly, I'm glad that Devin got aired out. If that's what they believe, then people deserve to know. If you're proud of your beliefs, you shouldn't really care whether people don't want to associate with you or not. Frankly, I don't give a fuck about canceling conservatives considering the fact that you can be openly racist, sexist, and homophobic and still have a platform. This season super sucked. I need them to turn up on the editing next time. Glad that I clocked Devin correctly though. I saw and understood what was going on with him from the pod episodes. Shoutout to the other people in this comment section that were saying the same things. I don't really care that his political beliefs got aired out just because Virginia said hers. If he believes it, he should stand on it. People should know what they're dealing with when it comes to others. When it comes to our state of the world, knowing where someone stands is of upmost importance. If he gets blasted online, well tough shit. He was getting cooked by some people anyway before Virginia spoke up because people could see right through him. He'll still sleep well at night.
