Maybe it was the dad who cut communication between Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang, in order to create an opportunity to talk?

My guess (and from a few people online that I've seen) is that some people didn't like the change from the anthology storytelling of diving into the lives of different people from S1, to the overarching time-travel plot. I don't share that take at all but just some food for thought.

He's speaking vaguely in a way and direct in others while touching on things that had no exact relevance unless he knew. Going through the convo, CWM mentioned if they (general) were in trouble, then brought up CXS (specific) without being prompted, how he let him (specific) down, how he has a second chance to teach them (general) everything they missed before, and how they (general) hopefully will become like family. How dafug does he know, as the speech is too on the nose for him not to know it's CXS
