2025-01-29 04:26:16 +0000 UTCSome theories: they always use specific elevator tones whenever someone is switching from severed to their unsevered personas. Helly is probably a plant in this season, with her outie actually being in control, as the elevator sound was never played. Another one is that lumon is actually in the business of cloning. Pineapples are widely known to be able to clone, so them saying pineapple bobbing is a hint that they might be cloning people. Moreover, Marks wife Gemma definitely did die, so maybe Ms. Kasey is a clone and is permanently severed. The marcodata refinement that they are doing is actually them rebuilding the memories of severed people. If they can fully restore the memories of a clone, such as Gemma that would effectively bringing someone back from the dead. Why would Lumon want to do this: RESURRECT KIER EAGAN
Nate
2025-01-29 01:41:44 +0000 UTCThe cast reacted to the clone theory about ms casey and said its wrong. so no clone lol
Huh
2025-01-28 13:56:41 +0000 UTCYea I'm calling it now: They're cloning people! Miss Casey isn't his wife but a CLONE of his wife. And that young girl they have as their supervisor...is another clone of his wife...just as a young girl. That explains why Miss Casey said she never leaves and has only technically be "awake/alive" for 8 hours or something like that. Because they are cloning folks way down in the basement, they are then severing those clones to use them for free labor. I also guess that when they are sorting those numbers into boxes, that is them sorting people's "minds" during the cloning process. I had a feeling of this last season but the imagery of the sheep/lambs and babies has confirmed my suspicions. Think about the real-life case of Dolly the sheep. she is the popular reference for the successful cloning of mammals, so I think the fact that there are hella baby lambs running around Lumon supports that theory... Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!

2025-01-28 05:38:14 +0000 UTCI have a theory that they're somehow changing history in MDR. With how far back the Eagan's go, they could be customizing the world to their success
Starman Deluxe
2025-01-28 02:13:37 +0000 UTCi might be off with the numbers thing and MDR and the tempers - but my theory is that this is a form of mind control. people are their most vulnerable/easily exploited when they're experiencing negative emotions, depression, grief, anger etc (whatever the four tempers are). they're using it as a form of mind control in society to pretty much control things. i think they're purposely making these people that they're working on (because the data files have normal names as if they're real people) and making them susceptible to mind control via negative emotions. it could be to control the economy, politics, maybe even wars. idk what the ultimate goal of lumon is but i think they have way more control in things in the outie world than we think. like you can literally make severed do crimes, be assassin's and terrorists if you wanted. like you can literally control the narrative on race, gender, whatever if you wanted. I can take severed people of that specific minority and send them to commit heinous acts and control the media and say "look at what [x] minority is like - they're terrible."

2025-01-27 23:14:33 +0000 UTCBen Stiller has a big hand in it and directs a lot of the episodes, but the show was created by a guy named Dan Erickson, who also acts as the showrunner. Just wanna give him his credit.

2025-01-27 23:12:33 +0000 UTCI wonder if Irving was calling the surgeon lady from S1, who helped Petey. I also wonder if Mark is gonna attempt some way to contact her again. The intro for this season has a lot of visuals that seem to me to be Outie Mark getting Innie Mark 'out'/Innie Mark breaking out forcefully. It's been on my mind ever since we got all that in S1 if 'reintegration' was gonna resurface as a plot point when the surgeon lady talked about how it only failed because Petey 'didn't follow post-op instructions'. My immediate question was, 'So what happens if someone DOES follow those instructions hmm? Will it be Mark?' As for Helena.... I'm not entirely sure what's going on with her. I wonder if she's almost jealous/envious of her Innie. That to Helena, what her Innie has is 'freedom', which would be an interesting spin as Helly sees it as a prison. I do in fact think it's Helena and not Helly going down, I don't know if yalls theory of her keeping it a secret even from the company is right or not. But I wonder if she'll attempt to sabotage any rescue attempts for Gemma/keep this facsimile life for herself. Because I can only imagine how WACK growing up as a member of that corporate-cult family would be, especially with how freaky her dad is. She believes certain things and acts a certain way due to her upbringing- she decides to do the severed thing, and then oops! A whole new perspective of life and possibilities is suddenly experienced and it's intoxicating and throws everything she thought for a loop. But honestly idk what they'll do with her. Regardless I fear pretty greatly there's not gonna be a "happy ending" for Helena/Helly in particular. That it'll either end in a "redemption" sacrifice or she just gets obsessive-crazy and gets taken out in some way/loses it.
Shabammo
2025-01-27 23:02:55 +0000 UTCOk I was probably wrong af last episode saying they did bring Helly R. back lol. I think Helena lowkey doesn't fk with the whole severance thing but her father basically controls her life and it seems she hates her father. I wonder are we gonna see that black doctor from last season again.

2025-01-27 08:45:33 +0000 UTCYeah, this episode was to basically tell you that everything Milchick told Mark apon re-arrival was a lie. There wasn't a months time difference, only a weekend. The rest of the team didn't quit, they were fired. Mark didn't beg to come back, he was begged to come back. The team wasn't now the face of a global outcry over severance, it was all swept under the rug as a drunken outburst. The company didn't change tune at all but in fact doubled down. The most impressive part honestly was them getting that entire animation video done in what seems like only an overnight ordeal.

2025-01-27 02:44:07 +0000 UTCWith this episode I now fully believe Outie Mark is passively suicidal and would give Innie Mark full control of their body if he could. Every move Outie Mark makes just seems driven by grief, if Severance did't exist in this world he would have tapdanced on the end of a noose a long time ago.

2025-01-26 18:59:13 +0000 UTCI think "My Innie got my message" is referring to the paintings. I wonder if Irving was painting the same thing so many times in hopes that the image would somehow seep into his innie's mind. Now we have at least two pieces of crossover. The black hallway and the questions about Gemma are in both spaces. Helena's reaction to seeing an alternative version of herself, a life she might have had if she were an average person, is fascinating! Especially in light of what we've seen of her father. It seems like her life has been devoid of true loving relationships. I thought Helena would be pissed that her innie kissed some rando with her body, but she wasn't. She looked shocked and curious, not angry. Great writing.

2025-01-26 13:39:50 +0000 UTCIf you watch the behind the scenes from this episode on apple the actress explains how Helena is actually fascinated with Helly's relationships and secretly desires this in her life as an outie. Considering she doesnt really get any affection from her outie life, it makes sense that Helena is the going down to the severed floor to experience this love with Mark and the friendships she developed. The actress was saying how the Helena feels constrained as an Eagan and wants the freedom Helly has which is ironic considering the innie feels like she is trapped and constrained herself in the severed floor.

2025-01-26 06:41:34 +0000 UTCStarting to think it’s actually helly R down there not Heleana. From the company’s perspective reintegration is not possible and its only been like a week since season 1 so i doubt they cracked it or got that doctor that did Peter to join their side
Ryan
2025-01-26 02:40:15 +0000 UTCWe see all the dialogue on the severed floor, so it's clear there is no time skipping in these scenes, that's part of what makes it impressive. We don't know how seriously outies running into each other at the severed entrance is considered; it could be red alert for all we know. Even if it is cinematic, which it is, it still directly contradicts what we've been told and seen so far. In order for upper management to have been fully in control of the check-ins they would have had to have a series of holding rooms before the lockers to meter people through one by one to assure no one accidently showed up a few seconds early, which is crazy. You can't expect people to be accurate to the second. So, yes, it is a plot hole. Not the biggest, but it took me out of it for a minute. I still love this season so far, but there have been a few things that distract from the immersion.
Bob
2025-01-25 23:27:29 +0000 UTCThe only one who questioned it was Devon

2025-01-25 23:24:47 +0000 UTCI was thinking this exact same thing. More evidence that it’s probably Helena down there.
Derrick
2025-01-25 22:43:10 +0000 UTCWhy do y’all think it’s been 5 months?? Milchik clearly said he only had 48 hours to pull the new team together (from 5X and Italy). If you remember from episode 1, Milchik told Mark S. the “5 months” lie on his first day back (i.e., before his former team came back), then when his team came back, he told them it’s been “five months and some days,” meaning only days had past since he restarted at Lumon. At most, I’d hypothesize it’s been a week since the overtime contingency happened. 5 months was an obvious lie and misdirect.
Derrick
2025-01-25 22:42:31 +0000 UTCHelly/Helena did not kiss Mark in episode 1. I might’ve misheard what y’all said at 25:40 but that was one of the hints it might be Helena instead of Helly.
Derrick
2025-01-25 22:03:23 +0000 UTCBut the clock shows they're like 1 minute apart
bark
2025-01-25 21:29:03 +0000 UTCSo that their outies don't run into each other under normal workday circumstances. Upper management was fully in control of the check-ins during that sequence -- and again, none of them know each other on the outside to know the difference. It's a precaution, not a red alert situation unless they actually start getting close and conspiring. Not everything needs to be hyperdetailed in its explanation order to not be a plot hole, imo. We obviously have timeskips in shows all the time that don't match to the actual screentime; the thirty second gaps between team members could be more than that in-universe, and it was an excellently done parallel as far as cinematography is concerned.
Bria A.
2025-01-25 21:18:56 +0000 UTCAlready been heavily hinted at and theorized but exciting to get confirmation that there’s something special about Mark that Lumon needs. Mark has some leverage even if he doesn’t fully understand why. How it ties in with his “freshman fluke,” Gemma, Cobel’s interest, etc. the wait to find out is gonna be maddening lol
jerry
2025-01-25 21:12:30 +0000 UTCThe only problem with that is that they are supposed to be scheduled to come in and leave at different times so their outies don't run into each other. Am I supposed to believe that they were scheduled 30 seconds apart and the outies were perfectly on time? This season is still good so far, but they're kinda creating a few plot holes.
Bob
2025-01-25 21:11:10 +0000 UTCJust commenting here for both the gang and the chat -- someone posted a comparison video between the first two episodes. The whole two minutes of Innie Mark meeting with the team in Ep. 1 is perfectly synced to them checking in and going down the elevator in Ep. 2. As in: Mark comes back, the exact amount of time passes for Dylan's scanner search until Mark sees him, then Irv, then Helena. It's insane attention to detail, y'all should check it out. 2025-01-25 16:37:13 +0000 UTCGotta hand it to Mr. Milchick he was MOVING! Day 1 (really night 1 lets say its Friday night Gala night) of his promotion: fired everyone/did recon on mark. Day 2 (Saturday): still doing recon on mark (hasn't visited his house yet this is the day mark has breakfast with sister), probably trying to find new hires for MDR. Day 3 (Sunday): visits mark at home to convince him to come in for Monday with fruit basket. He found replacements for MDR bc Milchick states it took him 48hrs to find a replacement MDR team AND complete revamp of Lumon severance offices, wellness boarded up and his own office plus a new assistant for himself. SO HE LIED TO MARK S. SAYING IT WAS 5 MONTHS IT WAS REALLY 2-3 DAYS BETWEEN THE OTC AND WHEN MARK DECIDED TO GO BACK TO WORK IRL LITERALLY A WEEKEND! Day 4 (Monday): mark decides to go to work for the first time since the incident

2025-01-25 16:30:20 +0000 UTCI like the idea of Helena being down there and not Helly because it might help them win in the end. Her life as Helena seems very cold and loveless but Helly has a solid group of people who care for her and a love interest with Mark so being down there might help her understand that the innies are still human, not sub-human, and who can take the Eagens down other than one of their own?

2025-01-25 14:41:07 +0000 UTCIn Season 1 it showed Mark walking up to a front desk in the lobby where a lady picks up the phone and says, "Are you Ready for Mr. Scout?" She then waits a moment before giving him the all clear to proceed to badge in and walk down the stairs to the Sevrd Access area. I think She helps stagger their entrances. In this recent episode I think it was just a stylistic approach to show all the outies arriving to Judd in a 'One Take' fashion. Even then it's technically still staggered as opposed to how most people use an elevator: Sharing it with a couple people at the same time.
Devin Eleven
2025-01-25 14:02:25 +0000 UTCI think it's exactly what you said. They clock in/out in a staggered fashion as a precaution. Nothing is technically stopping them from meeting on the outside, but they don't (consciously, at least) know each other to see any sort of significance in doing so. They'd meet in a professional capacity and think little of it, and completely forget when severed. As for the possibility of forming real friendships...I suppose that's what the observers are for lol
Bria A.
2025-01-25 13:19:39 +0000 UTCInnie Mark catching feelings for the person indirectly responsible for ruining his outward self's life -- and on the other hand, Helena learning more about humanity and empathy and freedom by observing Helly (who doesn't have to deal with the weight of her legacy) -- is such great storytelling, man.

XJ.
2025-01-25 10:57:51 +0000 UTCI'm a little confused on what Mark meant in season 1 when he told Helly something like "they (Lumon) stagger the times" when they clock in/out so they don't end up meeting eachother on the outside. What's stopping them from running in to eachother when they're clocking in near the lockers/Judd. Does Judd or Lumon not let someone enter the room until 1 goes down the elevator? I know their outies are basically strangers to eachother (except Helena knowing about them), but what's actually stopping them from becoming friends on the outside? Remember in season 1 Mark almost hitting Helena with his car in the parking lot. Maybe I'm overthinking it and this was just a stylistic choice in production but idk why them all clocking in 1 by 1 seemed kinda strange to me.
XJ.
2025-01-25 10:55:19 +0000 UTCSimilar to how some people in the comments are pointing out that there was no "ding" when Helena went down the elevator (she's probably not Helly down there), there was something else I noted. When Judd is scanning them at the end before they go down, Dylan and Irving are scanned from their front, while Helena is scanned from behind. Could be another hint that she is different from them, and that she is pretending to be severed down there.
VoyagerSpaceProbe
2025-01-25 09:31:26 +0000 UTCMark doesn’t want to pursue this because that would require getting his hopes up. If he pursues this just to find out innie mark didn’t mean that and she’s really dead it’ll crush him and he’ll be back to square one with his grief. It’ll be like she just died all over again.

2025-01-25 04:53:07 +0000 UTCDevon for MVP, honestly. And lmao, are we just now learning Milchick's first name in the second season? (Also, considering Milchick says "I hope to see you Monday" before he leaves Mark and the fam, the "five months" the innies were told deadass might've been a single weekend lol. Or a weekend and a few days, considering I doubt the replacement hires had to work on Saturday or Sunday and Mark worked with them for like three days. Milchick said he had 48 hours to pull the new team together.) I'm always so impressed by the intros! Especially since they're legitimately done by an animator who specializes in that surrealist sort of style. If you notice at the very end of it, it switches between Helly and Ms. Casey in the elevator (plus the part where he's surrounded by copies of their heads) -- Mark having to choose his innie vs. his outtie self as he keeps discovering more, maybe? Or even that they're foils to one another. Either way I definitely think he's gonna end up reintegrated by the end of the season, but will hopefully be more stable than Petey was.

2025-01-25 03:26:50 +0000 UTC-Irving lied to Milchik. Irving was banging on Burt’s door when he came back to LUMON on the elevator. He told Milchik he was home all night. Dude literally drove to Burt’s house & had to drive back home to answer the door. This was all in the same night. -might get clapped for this but I think Helly R. is still Helly R. Helly looking around the office & not finding the button at her desk could be more innocent than it seems. Look what they did to the break room. Cobell is fired, Milchik promoted, cameras gone & a child is now the supervisor. Helly now knowing that her outtie owns the place, sis is a little jumpy & nervous, which explains why she snapped at Mark in the hallway saying “THEY NOT LIKE US!” She doesn’t know what her outtie might have planned. Helena also didn’t look “thrilled” to go back to the severed floor. The show might be giving a misdirect.

2025-01-25 02:52:41 +0000 UTCFor anyone confused on the timeline. The 5 months thing was a lie. The season 1 finale and therefore the start of the episode where Milchick goes and fires everyone this episode took place on a Friday evening. He convinced Mark to come back to work that weekend. (Milchick says during the discussion on the new team members "I had 48 hours"). Innie Mark meets the new team (Monday) and crashes out in 3 days (Wednesday). The old team was rehired that same night of the crash out and came into work the next day (Thursday). Summary: It's been less than a week total.

2025-01-25 02:51:41 +0000 UTCI love Mark's sister, Devon. She peeps game and she ain't falling for nobody's okey doke. She's very intelligent and not easily lied to or manipulated. I can see her becoming a problem for Lumon, cuz they can't run game on her

2025-01-25 02:51:30 +0000 UTCI feel like that's not really a issue. If you can't replicate the pronunciation of the name you'd have to have a speech issue.

2025-01-25 02:50:36 +0000 UTCI mean, if you had a name like Persephone, anyone who doesn't know about Greek mythology is probably going to pronounce/spell it wrong. Makes sense to go by a nickname.

2025-01-25 02:27:07 +0000 UTC42:00 What? There were multiple things this episode that basically told us its only been a few days. Milchick saying he only had 2 days to put the new team together, then the old guy from Mark's new team saying he got fired after 3 days of work. So Mark originally came back to work 2 days after the events from last Season, so 2 days had passed when Milchick said "its been 5 months."

2025-01-25 01:26:42 +0000 UTCWhile valid, it would be kind of a grey area. While its relevant to employment, its also something employers would discriminate based off of, which is usually protected against by law. Would definitely be controversial in real life on whether an employer could discriminate based off severance.

2025-01-25 00:59:35 +0000 UTCThe after credits commentary backs up your take on Helly, she's fascinated and jealous of the fact that the freest version of herself is the one who is trapped in a severed floor. I'm definitely beginning to suspect that no one else knows that Helena is making these trips, and she's going not as a spy but as a form of wish fulfillment.

2025-01-24 23:50:04 +0000 UTCIt's only been a few days, Milchick lied about everything in ep1. Also being severed should totally be disclosed in an interview. If I gave my car to a mechanic who had 10years experience, but couldn't remember any of it. That's a shitty mechanic or doctor or accountant or anything else. I think the goal is to program peoples brains to follow the Kier ideals, whatever that means.

2025-01-24 23:44:55 +0000 UTCI JUST noticed some crazy symbolism in Mark's house with the dead lightbulb. 1/3 of the light is off, and in S1, he continually ignores the broken bulb as he drinks himself to sleep every night. It's exactly like his decision to sever: he turned off 1/3 of his life and ignored the problem, continually choosing not to fix anything, even though he notices every day that it is broken. And RIGHT as he's about to change the bulb, and quit Lumon, Milchick knocks on the door to convince him to stay, and the bulb remains unchanged.

2025-01-24 23:14:54 +0000 UTCthat scene of helena watching helly and mark kiss made me think that, instead of feeling bad for her innie, she probably became jealous of her because, despite being "lesser" than her and being essentially trapped, she found somebody who liked her, and helena's father definitely gives me logan roy toxic parent vibes lol anyways, this episode was aesthetically stunning and a fun fact about it is that the scene of the group getting into the elevator matches perfectly with its counterpart scene of them getting out of the elevator, which is incredible attention to detail imo!

2025-01-24 23:12:46 +0000 UTCThis was hands down the best shot episode of the show. From the wide shot of Helena walking to meet Cobel, to the lighting of the conversation with Mark and Milkshake. It’s so easy to get caught up in the intrigue of the narrative, but this shit is the best looking show on tv rn.

2025-01-24 21:21:24 +0000 UTCThey pretty much laid it out that what the office work they do is actually attempt at duplicating humans. from the intro in both seasons having duplicates of mark, to now a Gemma/Mrs.Casey not being the same person since the former was burned to death, yet the latter exists. Severance might be a step in the duplication process.
I VisiBomb I
2025-01-24 20:09:46 +0000 UTCAnother thing I realized is when they are all going down the elevator towards the end you can hear a DING and the severing sound for Mark, Dillion, and Irving but When we get to Helena there is no DING and there is no severing sound. Also she's the only one that we hear her entire descend of the elevator. So I think they tampered with her descend so she could remain as Helena and get info
Karma
2025-01-24 20:01:26 +0000 UTCFrom Cobalvik’s reaction, something tells me she is somehow personally connected to Gemma, or this project they’re doing. What if this is all revolved only around Gemma and Mark, and Lumon is trying to see if they can preserve a “dead” person like Gemma. Maybe she was braindead and Lumon was the only savior. OR Lumon is one of those cliche “how can we become immortal” type shit, but only through the severance chips and memories
Guns
2025-01-24 19:58:53 +0000 UTCwhen Mark S was walking into work towards the end there was a guy which is Mark W saying "3 days of work" . Also before that scene Milchick was talking to Helena and those 2 people saying he had 48 hours to get these people together so I believe about 5 days have passed. 2 days to get the people and 3 days of work and you see Mark W coming in for his 4th day but they fired him

2025-01-24 18:23:37 +0000 UTCAs many have pointed out in the comments, it definitely was not five months. It was a weekend between the incident and Mark returning, and the two or three days we saw of Mark working then demanding them back and they brought them back. They are definitely keeping us in the dark intentionally about any convo Irv and Burt had after Irv woke up banging on the door. There is no way he didn’t answer the door. Also I’m so curious who Irv is working with to try to infiltrate Lumon based on the payphone call saying “my innie got the message”. I believe the message could or would be about the hallway, and that his outie is doing research out there. I think they did confirm it’s Helena down there by the elevator noises, which is why they held the camera so long on the closed elevator doors. I don’t think it’s a big plot twist that Helena went down as Helena, I do think she didn’t go down as herself as a spy. I don’t think anyone besides literally herself knows she went down there as Helena. I think she probably lives a miserable, isolated existence growing up in this cult and she sees Helly actually living and envies her. So it kind of flips her comments and actions in episode one that we found suspicious in episode one completely on their head. I think she’s Helena and she is trying to figure all of it out, so she’s asking a lot of questions and assuming what Milchick says is true when she said things like “there’s no microphones in here”. I could be completely wrong, but I do know the show is still playing a massive head game with us about her motives.
Amanda Hill
2025-01-24 18:19:35 +0000 UTCI didn't think about that actually you might be right; I might hold on to my theory because they purposely focused on the clock for a reason and also didn't show if it was daytime or nighttime when mark left.
Seth
2025-01-24 18:04:16 +0000 UTCJust my opinion, but I don’t think he was leaving at 9:15 pm. I think he was leaving 10 minutes after he went down. That was about the amount of time his whole innie situation that led to him being sent home lasted.
Amanda Hill
2025-01-24 17:52:35 +0000 UTCthey don't live on the same earth as we do it's a different timeline, they give multiple hints of this in season1 look at the license plates, and when they show the newspapers. The show also straight up shows you the abbreviation for the country or state their in its called "PE" the newspaper shows this in the text. our earth has 193 country's the severance earth has over 200 the show also shows you this and the last thing is the show, shows you the world map its completely different from our world.
Seth
2025-01-24 17:41:26 +0000 UTCIt wasn't five months guys. Remember Milchick told Mark that five months passed on his first day back but we see in this episode he goes back right after Milchick came to his house. So the weekend past and Mark came back on Monday and then the others came back a few days later.

2025-01-24 17:26:05 +0000 UTCFetid Moppet means something like dirty child. Mark was the only one to be honest about switching (the need him though so it might not’ve mattered). & the it’s been 2 days since S1.
CocainCowboy
2025-01-24 17:25:57 +0000 UTCIn general, the rule of thumb should be that whatever is said outside is what's facts. 5 months was said to the innie as an obvious lie while Milkshake said to Helena that he got the new team together in 48 hours (after the OTC).
NiToTheNah
2025-01-24 17:12:56 +0000 UTCThey need Mark for Cold Harbor because he’s the only one who can do it. He has to be tied to it in some way, so it must deal with Gemma

2025-01-24 17:05:47 +0000 UTCby the way if y'all rewatch s2 episode 1 when Milchak took him to the elevator to "fire him" mark had a different severed animation like he was being knocked unconscious and taken to the "lab" or the black elevator with the red light the reason i think this is true because look at the clock when he was leaving and entering work he would usually go to work at 9:00am and leave work at around 5:15pm. in s2, ep1 he came to work at around 9am and when he got "fired" and got on the elevator, this episode showed that his outie didn't leave work until 9pm so meaning he got knocked unconscious and they took his body somewhere to run test or something

2025-01-24 16:26:07 +0000 UTCDevon is one of my favorite characters after this episode...the way she immediately was in problem solving mode and making sure Mark was ok.
