We thought it was weird at the time but we were way too young to understand how fucked up it was. Kids see it as dating someone "mature", not dating a predator. And that was in the 2010s. It's just straight up legal for an adult man to marry a teenage girl in some states, especially if he gets her pregnant. I also had a substitute teacher who slept with (molested) a few boys, she was fired but not prosecuted. I hope that shit is not ignored these days like it used to be, but it was very much a thing when I was a kid.

Harry meets Dexter as a child for the first time in a flashback to the 1970s more than a year before Deb was even born (we know it's more than a year because Laura talks about having been bound to her CI duties for more than a year). And Dexter the child is clearly at least 3 or 4 years old when Harry first meets him, which means he would have been 4 or 5 when Deb was born.

Most people cannot do anything when that happens to them, so hysteria is completely ok, since they have to just sit there and wait. But this man is one the few people in the city who can actually make decisions to find his son. So it feels like he's in problem solving mode and deferring the fear and grief until later, which makes total sense to me.
