If anyone’s wondering why they connected it to the old DCEU slightly and not have it entirely brand new, after Disney temporarily fired James Gunn, he came to make The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker and Creature Commandos which were like one big arc. By the time he was hired as CEO of DC Studios, he had already written Creature Commandos so he just decided to make that the first project. He didn’t want to just throw away everything he had done, so he’s saying that anything referenced in the new projects from Creature Commandos onwards is canon. He said all of Peacemaker aside from the DCEU Justice League cameo is canon, and they’re going to explain that in Peacemaker S2. Bit messy but that’s just how things go. Not too bad.

We've already seen one issue with this with Rick Flag Sr. being unable to have white hair live action in the upcoming Superman because Frank Grillo has another project going on simultaneously and the quick dye job they tried to do didn't look good enough. That's a minor cosmetic thing, but with bigger name actors it's gonna harder to work around. I admire them for their effort in trying to do this.

Likewise if say, Superman were to appear in a future animated series set in the DCU he would be voiced by the actor playing him in Legacy.
