The point is they were still doing a terrible job during season 1 but only during season 2 are people suddenly pointing it out inmass. S1 rarely ever actually animated anything besides outside game movement and the occasional running to the side shot. Half of the times king was even playing last season was cgi and the other sliding stillframe. Its like going from d- to f+ tier, the show has from jump been very poorly produced for the standards of most sports anime and with its one note premise about having the most ego frankly seeing it propped up over well done sports anime kinda sucked as a fan of the genre.

Everyone knows it the same mix it just isn't utilized the same way or rather less motion is used now. Many clips last season didn't rely on CG every time they touched the ball, CG was mostly used on the overhead run motion

I get that there is a lot of stop and go and its not just consistently flowing, but I also think that it helps them to show off each individual match up in a more direct way as well as give time to break down the players inner monologues cause there's no way getting around those in sports anime's period. It may not be the most 10/10 perfect but I think the direction went a lot better so far.

Its just people sliding in and out of frame or face closeup shots. That Nagi goal was fully animated and some heat!
