Dan Da Dan Ep 7

wow

Comments

It's the same in the anime, there's a few frames of her standing on the edge of the building right before she jumps to her death. But your comment was 2 weeks ago so you might already know at this point

Tentomushi

I’m ugly crying right now my god. She didn’t even get to know what happened to her daughter poor baby I hope she ended up surviving but damn heavy episode.

It’s Soulju

Saw this episode already and I’m still about to cry 😭

QuitaMa

that…that was beautiful…

Dpreezy

This was so hard to watch, been a long time since an anime made me tear up like this

Yoori

-Hey brother you gotta watch this tearjerker man it's hidden gem -Say swear!? What is it about? -Some random kid looking for his balls a granny stole -...

Knightmares

Wow... my feelings.

CatTriesEditing

Dandadan is formulaic(not in a bad way its peak), the formula goes aliens=action and comedy but ghosts=tragedy and emotions

PJ Rivera

Hey, it was good in the first half THEN turned shit

PJ Rivera

WEP lol that show was dog water

A1_MiLFshAkE

the clappage lately, in all the reactions, has been compounding. Nicest way of putting it

Emman Reed

Ahh good

Yellow_Flash

wonder egg priority type pain

MDLNubes

Her daughter also most likely didn't have the same name. Silky just lost her memories, had a knowledge gap in her memories, heard the dad call "Aira", and then filled in the blank with Aira as a surrogate daughter

J Man

Woah…. Just saw the expanded version of everything from the manga… i didn’t need all the extra depth, it was already sad enough.

ItsLargeDad

That was….HEAVY

CAM

Amazing episode

V STAN

Thanks lol this at least made me laugh a little through these tears 😭

Joe’s Strange Journey

Same! I’m glad it’s not just me, I just left a reply to another comment about this lol

Joe’s Strange Journey

The way I saw it is that’s just how Granny speaks, like a dad that didn’t ask for a pet or an old guy that’s emotionally constipated and can’t show he actually cares directly. I feel like she said those things harshly that way to just make it known to Aira (who could do something about it) and to let Aira know the gravity of the situation - like she said it loud enough for Aira to hear instead of calling Aira to do it directly. Another reason why she might’ve done it that way instead of outright telling Aira is maybe silky has a better chance if Aira’s actions are purely genuine (which they were since she wasn’t told to do what she did). Idk I’m just yapping, but that’s how I saw that scene.

Joe’s Strange Journey

Off the top of my head there’s like 3-4 other yokai that have backstories and it’s only because the yokai are connected to important characters and story elements.

GJ

Yeah the last dance scene was strong it hurt to watch when I read the manga it was worse cause she's on top of a building and that last jump was her going off why he world view flips it was a hard read

Eff3ct

it's okay there isn't

kloihyf yt

Oh ok thanks because I was a little confused on what happened

Fijith1

Great episode! I just hope there isn't a backstory for every bad guy like in DS.

lyssa

Yup, dandadan is broken up like this: aliens=action and goofiness, ghosts=tragedy

PJ Rivera

I read some of the manga it seems that whenever they face aliens its a goofy silly action arc but whenever its ghosts expect some tragic stuff.

PJ Rivera

In the dub they outright say that she didn’t pay them I’m guessing she was a prostitute for the yakuza and she took some of the pay she would give them to buy her daughter a dress. I read some of the manga her daughter didn’t survive but they do reunite in the afterlife.

PJ Rivera

Why did this silly goofy action anime about ghosts and aliens make me cry this hard???!!

PJ Rivera

I knew it was coming and it still hurt so bad. That “Mommy, thank you for all you do”, line is what did it for me man. Got a lot of shit going on personally and seeing this really brought things to mind. Please please please tell your loved ones whoever they may be that you love and appreciate them. Never know when it’ll be your last chance.

Lsg_Lani

Manga Reader Here (it gets sadder): 1 Silky didn't bleed out in the streets, that dance sequence was her pirouetting/ throwing herself off the building. 2 Her daughter didn't survive the kidnapping, the little girl has been waiting for her mommy on the other side this whole time. When Silky makes it to the after life, they reunite.

Antionette.SP

Ooooof bruh. I don't have the heart for this. That was rough.

Tuny kun

Alright time to cry

Lsg_Lani

Blue for the serpoians, black and white for the flatwoods monster

Ougi

I was not expecting this when people told me this was heavy, this hit me hard.

Nita - Kento's Widow

Keep your tissues close because Dan Da Dan has some real tear creeper back stories.

JAS

As yall mentioned, the colorcoding of this show is masterful. Blue for aliens, momo/psychic is teal. Okaru/granny is red. Aira and Silky is pink. I can't wait to see what other colors come as people are introduced. The way the colors play with eachother during the fights and interactions is amazing too

Brendan Arntz

they were extorting her, she probably was paying them just fine. It is very normal for gang members to just crash out on women if they don't make enough.

Artdysmal

I think the insinuation for the kidnapping was her taking some money out of the envelope to buy her daughter the dress, one of the men held up that same envelope mid assault.

Eric Diaz

i cried too

Bri

the composition is that stars are above, and the lights below are city lights. shes dancing on water cause it was raining, then they emphasize the city lights when she falls. It's not as direct to interpret like in the manga, but I think all the choices made sense.

Ghoullie

W mom. She went through so much to raise her kid and give her the best life she could. Rest in Peace

Orlandez Malone

I guess, but it was gorgeous and I got the point that she was dead.

Jon Fejes

THEY WENT DUMMY WITH THAT EPISODE , might be episode of the year.

Pain Amvs

Oh ok my mistake. I thought when she took the money from the envelope, you could see one of the guys open it and check it but I couldn’t be wrong

Fijith1

she was a prostitute. she didnt take any money they didn’t give her willingly

Marshall Lee

its very clearly implied

Marshall Lee

This episode devastated me... no jokes, no nonsense. Just love and tragedy

Dude559

Fk man ain't nobody warn a nigga that this episode was gonna be a sob fest 😭😭 I aint have no tissues around. Also I don't think her actual kid was named Aira too. Ballet woman forgot what her life was when she became a ghost and seeing little Aira jus kinda brought back the memory that was most important to her which jus led to a delusion that Aira is her real daughter

Corey Leach

It was, the loud thud was her hitting the ground

Jordyn Brown

they didn't show it in the show but she was a prostitute

reeph

Ah ok yeah I was confused lol

EFFect_Phantom

Loan sharks probably

Jalen Holmes

not to sound like a dick head but like if she never took the money from the envelope (the guy's are prob in gang and she owe them money) but like if he never did that her kid will still be there and she would not have been dead and ya her life would had sucked but she would still have her daughter not so sound like a dick about this its realy fucked up but that how i see it

Fijith1

I could be making this up, but I also believe the reason Silky is so tall is so she can feel like she’s hugging her little girl again even though Aira isn’t little.

Step Joe

Yeah I think this was the first one I remember. Him saying something like "these are some real homie tears, I don't wanna hear anything from yall" haha

Adiuva

Who were the guys beating on the mom?

Mk IDraw

Expect it from every spirit

Shiki Granbell

There’s worse than this….

Hi How are ya

It’s because of how Japan views suicide

Bighusky

Enough to make a grown man cry

WillGlacier

Had me holding back tears. I was super scared at first... I saw a few titles saying this episode was depressing and when I saw Aira I already holding my breath

Bocchi In Shadow

the music in the flashback goes crazy

Gmac paddiewac

Yea this and Z*** (don’t wanna spoil for anyone) backstory got me when I read it

FoldinClothes

Yo that tone shift. Beautiful episode but goddamn, I don't think anyone breathed during that episode.

East_Coast_Overseer

That settles it, pain week snuck back in caught us all lackin smh

Offw0rlder

Good fucking LORD I was unprepared

Offw0rlder

It is a graphic and very dark end to her life. The animators made it more of an art piece while alluding to what happened when you hear the thud of the impact of her fall. Both versions are impactful, but I think the direction and adaption of the anime made it more symbolic of her dreams by adding a lot more color and imagery to the whole scene.

Austin Ernst

yes, in the manga it was a rooftop. idk why they chose to make it stars all they did was confuse the watchers

Trey

When Aira hugged Silky 😭 I had already been crying but when that moment happened, the ugly crying began 😩

Clinton the Bingethinker

the part where the mom was dancing before she died i think it looked all shiny with stars like she was at the rooftop of some building and she actually jumped off to her death. no?

Orlando

As a real manga reader, it was not that confusing, Aira just to happen to remind her of her daughter for calling her mommy cause she had forgotten it all in death, the time period for how long she was dead was never mention so it was best to safe to assume it was must of a good while which helps with her forgetting things while dead.

Uni

She was in debt (probably to the yakuza) so she was working multiple jobs to pay her debt back. But she wanted to buy her daughter a pretty dress, so she used the debt money to buy her daughter that dress. She didn't have enough money by the time she needed to pay up, so they took her daughter as payment.

Robert Smith

I read the manga, so i already knew what was gonna happen, even then this shit had me so FUCKED.. my chest feels like it was going to explode, these tears i couldint stop them. The anime did this way more justice then ir needed to. And the thing is? The series keeps these types of emotional rollercoasters going with almost each arc.

Jaye

CINEMA

Tenroku

This ep so sad I bawled my eyes out

AP STP

Bro watch the a silent voice reaction that movie tore every tear drop out of his body he held back the past 30 years

TimmSchmimm

I'll admit it, another show got me again damn these writers

Tremaine

Also in hunter x hunter

Anal_fireworks

You’re saying there’s more?💔

Anal_fireworks

So did she take extra money out of her earnings so she could buy the dress and therefore those gang dudes got less money than they wanted from her? I assume they were the ones pimping her out.

HollowedSlayer

I'd like to think there was no way she'd survive a jump from that building so yes she died from that ahah

Arkan Matlub

Wasn't apparent enough because Lupa and Sheera (and assumedly Roshi too) thought she died there on the street

Arkan Matlub

It's admittedly confusing in the manga since you don't have hair color to help and the young version of Aira does kind of resemble Acro Silky's daughter. The anime even added extra lines to clarify, despite it being clearer with their drawings and coloring.

Sekraan

One thing I’ve always said as a manga reader, this show is so goofy and unserious until it’s not. Moments like these are spread throughout

Shiki Granbell

he also cried in the final penguin episode like 2 days ago lol

dawn

Shit Made Me Cry Bro I’m So Mad😂😂

L B

Anime "censored" alot of it, i dont think most anime only picked up the fact that she jumped off a tall building at all.......let alone in a ballet jump/backflip

Dyastro

It was all fun and games till they slayed demons 🤡

NovaVortex

Nope. Silky lost her daughter and ended herself and became a spirit. Aira lost her mother to some other cause but she was given a proper funeral. Aira as a child saw the ghost of Silky and thought about her own mother, possibly they looked alike. In conclusion, Aira and Silky aren't related whatsoever.

DarkTitan5010

lmao thanks everyone finally i get to see it

Endo

we see arias dad in the manga tho acrosilky was a single mother

zay

heres a list for you; the silent voice, alice, train to busan, all of us are dead, vinland saga and Heavenly delusion. i might have missed some.

Son Goku

Dude I'm at work I can't cryyyyy

Eddy Barragan

Bro teared up in Vinland Saga and the Silent voice movie

Acen Yang

She forgot who her daughter was and aira just so happens to see her as a child and silky being called mother by her makes her think that she's her daughter

HypeRec

I'm a manga reader of this series and I'm confused. I thought that WAS her mom. Am I just stupid?

Maseter

Watch their silent voice reactions

Kunj Shah

still waiting for the day till roshi tears up😅 i thought it was this one

Endo

sameeeeeeeee

Sunshine Hall

Because I have a competition with my siblings on who cries the most during stuff, so we’re used to shaming each other if we shed tears 😂

Thunter

I think (hope) he’s saying that this episode shows that his editor making him read those manga was a good thing, which resulted in this mangaka producing quality emotional content like what we saw in this episode.

zkdglo

whatttttttt noooooo😭

Norman kay10

noooo im crying so Hard a Second Time

Norman kay10

smh got me crying at 2am

damnjerick

?

EFFect_Phantom

WAIT!!!!!!!! *tries to stop you in slow motion*

LUPASAN

This episode moved me… Wow. That felt like a short film. Beautifully animated, yet so tragic

Danny C

welcome to dandadan. brace for more

MGC

What a masterpiece of an episode.

Joel Braaten

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost mine close to 14 years ago and it at times can still be as fresh as the 1st day. This episode really got me too, I almost had to pause it because I could barely see through my tears. There is nothing quiet as profound as a mother's love, and nothing quiet as painful as a mother's loss. I hope that with time your pain lessens. Don't rush yourself through the grieving process, respect the feelings you are having. I'm just one of many who has seen your comment, but know that you are not alone.

Lea Garrido

now i 100% understood why this creator editor made him read 100 romance novels/manga because he had 0 emotion.

MethodTKT

Probably because suicidal deaths is a serious thing in Japan

Patrone07

ive never cried watching anime but there have been a few where it almost happend and this is one of them.

AnimeTiddiesKindaNice

Tbf, turbo granny didn't see acro silkys memories, it was only momo and aira. Based on her consoling dead girls I imagine she'd be pretty empathetic had she got to see her memories

Ougi

SOOOO many amazing cuts of animation. Science Saru had to remind niggas lmao

Delinda Arts

So beautifully directed wow

Delinda Arts

Thanks for the explanation 😥😢😭😭😭

LiquidXGravity

the manga kinda make it more clear shes dead honestly some shit too gruesome in this manga for animation ppl think cause its a comedy it wont get into very dark topics well theyre gonna be taken aback cuz this shit only getting darkr

DIOR

DID YOU KNOW? Japanese voice actress, Ayana Sakura voiced Aira Shiratori from DanDaDan, Yuria Niguredou from Mieruko-chan, and Kaya Saimori from My Happy Marriage are characters who have the ability to see spirits or the supernatural. Both of the latter anime are really good for reactions too and I recommend watching.

Johnny D. Wicked

hope they take their sweet time with this adaptation if so it'll be impossible for them to miss

DIOR

To be clear, if you rewatch the scene, the anime does censor her suicide. But if you watch the scene again with that in mind, it's really not all that censored. You can see the city lights in the background, you can see she's above them when it cuts to her feet, and smwhen she takes her final leap, all the lights start spinning. Then we hear the thud after her last memory of her daughter. Artistic as fuck and once you know what to look for, it's blindly obvious.

Mervyn Larrier

well ... shit... I'm hurt

Ragnar Pendon

And 🌂 boy

Jesus Ova

she did here too ...anime just showed it differently

Rishad GB

she didnt die on the streeet ....she jumped off

Rishad GB

hence the thud sound

Rishad GB

It was made pretty apparent by the view from the roof that's shown and the thud of herhitting thr ground

Ougi

why would u be even ashamed

Rishad GB

yea everytime she did it

Rishad GB

so she died after jumping off the roof...the anime kinda showed that part a different way so it was not that clear but the manga shows it ....I was wondering what the "thud" sound was

Rishad GB

yes manga showed it better i think

Rishad GB

She's very likley dead. She is shown with her mother in the end and the manga makes it more clear showing them together in the afterlife

Johnny

Oh so she died from that?

Rishad GB

man......

Rishad GB

Chopping onions, felt like the author was blasting my eye with bear mace

Oscar Barcelo

Yeah that's my only complaint too. For anyone unaware, AcroSilky doesn't die in the street, she commits suicide by jumping off a building

Pigeons&Stuff

This... Was an episode 🫠

Orlandez Malone

Dang something horrible happened to the daughter too? 😢

LiquidXGravity

I assumed that’s what was happening

Teacupcats

tears after tears nobody can catch a break

Reckless Company

Wow. That was a masterclass episode. I legit teared up

Arian Barzinpour

mainly because japan is very sensitive about suicide

DIOR

bro they're gonna go so crazy when they do HER backstory, shit was crazy in the manga as it is 🦖

DIOR

Ep was really nice, idk about crying over it tho

Narybasmati

what an S tier episode. Just ONE little complaint, I was hoping that they’d animate the panel of her dancing on the edge of the building. In this episode, you cant really tell what was actually happening when she was dancing.

Steven H.

To clarify, silky acrobat didn’t die from the injuries, in the manga, it was depicted more directly that she jumped herself off from a building with a ballet dance, the anime makes it in a more metaphorical style with the reflection of the sky instead of the building with the sound of something dropped at the end.

Jojo

Welp, was like "oh shit Dan Da Dan Thursdays, gonna be lit watching them pop off and fight alien ghost". Nope, just gonna cry today I guess.

Stellarnut

WwwwwoOW, yeah I definitely wasn't expecting this show to have this much range. That was deep and beautifully done. Already sad, I guess I'll go ahead and watch Look Back now lol

A. P.

In the dancing scene she basically jumped from a building, thats when she died, if you see it again, a hit sounds at the end of the montage, clear in the manga, not that clear in the anime, but still beautiful and tragic.

EnmaDS - Enmanuel D. Site

Beautiful episode

Bona Fide

Did the same damn thing. They need to start putting a "sad times inbound" warning on episodes like this

Keevondrick Womack

This episode was so beautifully animated, i can tell the animators put in a lot of work into making this episode perfect

ωαям вяєαժ

Made the mistake of watching this ep at work during lunch and the tears wouldn't stop flowing. Glad I was alone in my desk or people would've probably been concerned.

Lymarie G

What's crazy is that I don't even think this even close to being the saddest Dandadan backstory, if you know you know

Jesus Ova

Still hits me after reading the manga author was chopping onions 🧅 in this episode

Gavin fox

This show never disappoints. Wow

Tsuki

absolute cinema

Saleenseven

Probably the best single episode ive ever seen in an anime

DIOR

I was just tryna eat a sandwich and watch something, the way I'm ballin 😭

BlergMcFlergin

The dynamic writing in this is incredible. From the insane moments like ep 1 and the Nessy fight, the epic moments like Evil Eye and Kaiju to the tear jerking emotion of Acro’s and Vamola’s backstories. Love this manga so much

Charcoal

The Penguin finale, look back and now this. It was a f'd week xD

GormleyPeach

Dandadan is so peak because action is so amazing but the length it goes for this kind of sadness isn't solely this part, they do it so well on several moments. Can't wait for the full release

Arkan Matlub

The anime did it very well but also a little bit vaguely during the rough parts of the anime, the manga portrayed it much more harshly. The ballerina mother jumped off from the building, and in the manga you can see how beautiful it is. Whole chapter is amazing so check out the entire thing but yeah this is the panel https://pbs.twimg.com/media/E6rb1WyXEAMG_R7?format=jpg&name=large

Arkan Matlub

She was also already wearing the dress as a ghost when Aira saw her first, which makes it a lot easier for a kid to mistake her as her mother instead of a beaten bloody person in rags. Not sure why they changed it other than to make the mom look sadder.

NecDW4

"So she died right there?" Not exactly.

NecDW4

I think granny was loud and bitch to give them clues on what to do.

Blackbulls6

Became a tear bender with this one

Infantrymedic11

science saru went in for no reason wow

Kablamoo101

Silky jumped off a building. That’s why you heard a thud at the end of her dance

Blackbulls6

This episode was hard to watch even tho I knew what was coming 😭. For a moment you actually forget that you’re watching Dan Da Dan lol. A detail I noticed that wasn’t in the manga is that the Mom used part of the money she owed those scumbags to buy her daughter’s dress. As a result, she came up short and had her daughter taken away. She blamed herself :(

Sarai

I remember reading this in the manga for the first time and it crushed me I don’t think I cried so much reading something as I did with this chapter…a mothers love is truly such a marvelous but tragic thing

Dunie♡

Yeah y’all, a dude definitely teared up during this one 🥲

Has Noname

just a note, Mono reinforces herself/ softens her fall with her psychic powers. u can see it just before she hits the wall

Kablamoo101

Due to censoring they didn't really show it but you could probably put 2 and 2 together that she was a prostitute and when they took her kid she's most likely dead that's why after she commits suicide by jumping off the buiilding (the dancing scene)

HypeRec

Expect more

SenseiDbo

See this is how you do an adaptation!!!

Jared Moss

For me it was the birthday of her daughter on the calendar.

BiscuitS7

Finna turbo cry

Caleb Surratt

Also in the manga they clearly show that silky’s daughter didn’t survive whatever they did to her and silky killed herself, her dancing in that scene was showing her actually going to the road dancing etc she actually jumped off a building and in the end she was walking to the afterlife with her daughter but I guess the anime didn’t wanna show that

Wsgyan

this week's updates just been back to back sadness

dawn

Yeah… that one got me… not even ashamed to admit it

Thunter

That or used the money she earned to buy the dress instead of paying back the loan sharks. Either works

Cameron Hall

Silly shows are always so good at making you cry idk why

gr2ves

Cinema with tears

Nick

this is top tier anime they can tell a story so amazingly well you can feel mad happy sad and all v.a showed how to connect to people's feeling through the screen. but granny is just pouring the cold water to keep them from going to wild in trying to fights yokai the only reason they are alive is because of the powers they have all those hits they took or being eaten to a random civilian stuck in another one of their fights means death so they better be sure and they win fast otherwise there will be a time when they can't save someone in the future.

DANIEL PEREZ

Just to let you guys know this show is going to make you guys cry in way more ways that one. It’s tragically beautiful and by I mean tragic I mean TRAGIC.

Malachi ☎️

Holy fuck i cried, GOATED show

pmreez

Man they really did great on the episode

Mr. Toxicc

how are they going to make 6 episodes of goofy fun and then sucker punch us in the fucking stomach like this! I wasn't ready!!!!

Dud3 itsj3ff

I had to hug and cuddle my daughter after watching this😭😭😭shit

Tre Staples

personally... I think granny is acting like a grumpy old person cuzz of her world view. We don't know her history (anime only watchers), and based on what she does, I can assume tht she too might have experienced being a victims by men at one point in her life. So caring for women &girls for so long might have caused her to see the world as a cruel place and is jaded as a result.. (never read the manga, but i'm gonna watch the show first before reading). I also think this episode foreshadows the corruption yokai go through; they start out with a pure desire/strong emotions and after they die, it becomes a bad obsession. i guess u can say granny is like that too. but, i agree with ya'll, she'll start to like them more as time goes on.

Tore Jessamy

I didn't realize it when I watched the first time but her mom had stolen that money to buy that dress I think which just makes the whole thing so much more tragic if that was the case :(

ZandyBoi

I didn't expect Dan Da Dan to have me tearing up but this got me. They did such a good job with Acrobatic Silky's story. The music, the animation, everything.

George

I’m so sorry for your loss, you and your family are in my prayers

abraham mcgeachy

she actually jumped off a roof after the dance

Neil Reid

Someone showed the manga panel on twitter and I had no clue that the scene where she was dancing with the water was a rooftop and then she jumped off it killing herself. Sad asf man

Jalen Holmes

All these people dying horribly in all these shows😭😭 crazy depression marathon

GojosHoho

I cried so hard my eyes hurt

rando

Man that cheery ass music right after that tragic story😭😭 why

GojosHoho

Did not sign up for depression 😐

GojosHoho

I definitely think she's also incredibly callous as a result of being a spirit for so long too

Persto

All of Fujimoto's assistants know how to cook, man is goated as hell

Persto

Real shit

Persto

Damn...as someone who recently lost their mother, this shit tore me up. My head is still hurting from all the sobbing I did, but now I'm here to watch them react to it.

Niuwah

im sobbing like a ho rn

Marshall Lee

To be fair it was implied when the screen blacked out you can hear her hit the pavement

Jaikena Givens

She's a fucked up spirit, we knew she didn't die satisfied with life and peacefully in her sleep.

Argo2Unitard

watch how turbo granny ends up being the sweetest grandma in the world that got brutally murdered for trying to bake cookies for her 20 adopted grandchildren or smth lol

I VisiBomb I

This was a really great episode. I not suprise at how good and beautiful the author writes this story especially for someone who worked on chainsaw man.

Joshua Cato

She didnt die in the streets that was her dancing on that lake(building) she jumped off

Anael Nock

"Cap, she's in the intro. Cap"

Azel !!

So now ya'll know why we were all hyping up Dandadan, you will never be ready for what this series is gonna hit you with, and it's amazing every time

Tearonex

What they don’t fully show because of all the colors but she actually jumped off of a building and committed suicide

Bossman15blaze

Why did I watch this at work😔😢

Elizabeth Darby

I though something was missing but I guess it might've got censored

bleach

they hidden it but the mother was dancing on a rooftop and do ballerina jump to kill herself over the pain of losing her daughter.

Wassim aitikhlef

Was this in the manga? Goddamn

Persto

im not sure if yall touched on this point in episode 2, but turbo granny cares for women and girls especially. she was basically telling momo and aira what to do in order to help the situation, in a mean way. i really like that about TG, cuz even though she's a hardass, she genuinely cares.

zanderbander

Well I'd say it was more of a fact that we knew she was dying and obviously did die in a horrible manner, over the fact that we didn't know what would happen to her daughter and such.

Persto

Everything. It hurt everything.

Coatl45

I'm really glad I gave this show a chance, I wasn't the biggest fan at first but it just keeps getting better

QualityFreak

feel like yall were focusing more on the fact that he daughter was taken than her legit dying in the street but its whatever

Derek

Beautiful episode

JotaroDrake

not like that

RBGTalk

acrobatic silky is Mommy fr

RBGTalk

same😭

Chilè

in the manga basically when she fell chasing the car she hit her face on the ground and lost some teeth. and since shes lost her everything shes goes to a roof and does ballet off the building. its not as emphasized in the episode but im pretty sure the mom knew ballet and was teaching her daughter before yk what

Chilè

Damn all the emotions this week 🥺

Kwaku Afari

This episode was so sad. The moment Aira hugged Silky is when the tears started flowing for me. 10/10. 🥺

Earphone Jack

ngl three back to back sad reactions is pretty rough(penguin, look back, dandadan)

CMBR

Man this episode had me crying lovely yet sad episode

Hawk

Wow, just wow. This episode made this anime part of my top 10 list. Anything involving kids and parents will always get me. First Look Back now this, I can't keep crying man 🥲

TheMilkMan

moms.

DatKid_Kaneki

yeah and there is SO much better scenes.. this is gonna be a ride

DatKid_Kaneki

The manga panels showed the mother running like one would on the Olympic track team. And when she couldn't catch up to the daughter, the mom was dancing one last dance on the top of a building, did a big backflip OFF the building......

Dyastro

i’m very pleased with the way they animated this. the manga itself looks incredible but watching the episode and hearing the music made this even better. a lot of people believe dandadan to just be a silly comedy filled anime, which yes is a great part of the anime but it is also so much more and i think this episode was a great way to show everyone what you can look forward to in every episode that’s to come

momo

bro just because she is in the intro, it does not mean anything xD, u forgot junpei in jujutsu kaisen? xDDDD

Sebastian Serafin

I hope the series potentially returns to this story. (I don't know if they come back to the daughter's spirit or something in the manga.) I think it could be rather good. It is such lovely storytelling. I started crying at the end. I didn't even notice when the tears fell at first. Also, to note that Turbo Granny is still being rather mean and callous with her words; given her backstory, I don't think she is unaware of the emotional cues of these spirits. It is just she has been around for so long. It was just a matter of fact for her. Granted, I think she may have reacted similarly if she had seen the memories either way. For her, it's just a cold reality that could easily happen to her.

Uly A O

i’m telling yall dandadan is amazing, there’s so much more to come. i teared up just as much watching the episode as i did when i read it in the manga

momo

The mother didn't die from chasing the car. She committed suicide by jumping off a building in the dancing scene. Hence the thud you hear after the flashback to memories of her daughter.

Sekraan

not even 2 mins in and sheera done already forseen the whole episode😭😭

Chilè

“A woman’s silhouette dancing in the light. Should’ve been your future, not my present. So take my soul and dance for both of us, Aira”

Guns

Pain...

Spriggz

The color grading is whose domain is active. Red was turbo granny, the pink was acro silky . The blackout are aliens ( empty space)

Michael

The animation did such a great job on doing Acrobatic Silky's backstory. It was still sad, but it was a lot shorter in the manga. Her ballet routine at the end was so sad/beautiful at the same time. If this is really how they're going to animate and direct this show for the rest, then I don't see any other show coming close right now.

st

I knew Sheera and Lupa was gonna be no good. Such a sad story.

botanbutton

damn

Sirron bembry

man this episode was so good the music the visuals really played with my emotions i cried bullets throughtout

Lea.Helcate

ah. the first of many feels.

JohnnySmoke

She died doing ballet off a roof. One last dance.

Gilthwixt

She seemed to actually have some type of ballet experience if you watch the flashbacks of her with her kid, she pulled off a perfect stance. She actually did dance her way off the rooftop and jumped right off to her death, its not symbolic.

John Tee

Her jumping off a building was more explicit. The fate of her daughter was more ambiguous on the other hand, but based on the final page of that chapter the consensus is that her daughter died at some point after being trafficked which is why the line is "Please let *them* go to a kinder world" and not simply "her".

Gilthwixt

This hurt something idk what though

Zay C.

As much of an asshole Aira has been, even she knows how to be a genuine human being and empathize with others. Even though she gave Acrobatic Silky a hug to help her, she needed that hug as well to get the motherly feel she's been missing for a while.

Devin B

I hope her daughter is still alive. I'm a bit confused, didn't in the manga it showed silky dancer jump off a building?

KingdorismHD

wait im confused, so she died chasing the car and the ballet was symbolic or she died jumping off a roof and the ballet was symbolic until they showed that brief freefall at the end?

suzukiri

this week just been sadness.....

Casually PS

So a small bit, she wasn’t saving money to buy the dress, she took money out of what she was supposed to give the people who attacked her. They took her daughter as payment.

NicksKicks

I literally did not expect Dandadan to drop a 10/10 episode like this. What a way to subvert expectations man. Presented itself as a fun and light hearted shonen with cool action sequences then completely shifted the ton as it's way of saying "Yes this show is here to stay." Of course I'm not saying I thought the show was going to consistently be just one thing, I just didn't expect this kind tragedy for an actual character not to mention the way it was presented. Even how the author was introducing spirits it was incredibly goofy and ridiculous but in a fun way. Then he continued with this recent spirit and then immediately showcase the tragedy of this spirit. With hints sprinkled here and there last episode but not enough to convince you the tone is about to completely shift. Really great writing actually because this just showed this author can do it all and he went all the way. Single mother doing the best she can for her daughter yet as expected as a single mother you aren't able to fully be there for her and unable to protect her. Now she is being kidnapped right in front of you and as you try to save her you fail and die in the process. Now you are unable to move on so you become a lingering spirit filled with regret as you were unable to protect your daughter. So you mistaken another for your daughter and latch onto her and become a evil spirit as you just can't move on with how you were unable to protect your daughter. I also like the ending because the "Afterlife" in Dandadan is obviously meant to be heaven and she cannot enter because she has sooo much regret in her heart but thanks to our new character she has found her closure and can now move on

ErendGoat

Well yes. I don't know how Patreon guidelines reacts to that word so I just avoided using it myself.

Beignet Blues

Yes, she committed SUICIDE.

Albionestt

Dude... I teared up. Beautiful episode.

stu

She jumped off a roof after dancing by the way. That's the thud at the end of the flash backs.

Nae

Sorry for the 3rd comment, there was a lot to take in. Minor correction: The color filters represent which spirit/alien's powers are most prominent, and this is reflected in the intro. If you go back and look at both the intro and their respective episodes, we know that Serpoians are blue, Turbo Granny is red, The Sumo Alien was Black & White, and Acro Silky is Pink. It's a really cool detail that they don't actually explain in dialogue because it's anime original.

Gilthwixt

I think I speak for us all when I say What a fuckin episode ts was really well done 💯

Boogie's Games

Well said

General Grevious

Anime watchers before Episode 5: "Ah so it's an action series about fighting different Ghosts and Aliens" Manga fans: "SYKE, YOU'RE WATCHING A SHOW ABOUT FINDING A DUDE'S BALLS" Anime watchers before Episode 7: "Okay so it's a goofy lighthearted comedy that isn't too serious" Manga fans: "BITCH YOU THOUGHT"

Gilthwixt

I don't think you need to read all the manga but if one of you want to give it a try to compare how its done there vs anime, the manga have some insane detail and amazing artwork. The anime is taking care to transmit the feeling and elevate it with so much love but both mediums are beautiful and a little different to appreciate this series twice

Valentino Garay

The fact that they stole the daughter instead of killing her is worse than death, that was hard to see

General Grevious

That was sad, i still think Aira is a piece of shit, but fuck that was sad.

Michael Blake

Man. I knew it was coming and I still couldn't prepare myself. They really hammered it in with the animation here, both the haunting and beautiful parts. Some of it was way more subtle than in the manga, as the comments have pointed out (she danced herself off a building, that's what the thud was). But other parts were way more in depth than I expected, the chasing after her daughter scene among them. And to think they actually teased her dance/suicide scene in the trailer during one of the most upbeat parts of Otonoke. Diabolical doing that with no context.

Gilthwixt

The anime was perfect. Just maybe some people might missed the fact that she unalive herself from the top of the building. That was her last dance in the edge of the building until she jumped head first.

Valentino Garay

Bruuuuhh that sucked

King97

Pre Clannad

_monjiro

Penguin, Look Back now this, it ain't looking real good this week smh

Mr. K

In the scene where acro silky took money out for her daughter’s dress, you can see a circled date on the calendar. That was prob the date she was supposed to pay those goons who took her kid 🫠🫠

Jose Avalos

Yeah nah this hurt way more animated rather than when I read it wtf

MonarchXIII

Bro WTH I didn’t feel all of that when reading the manga they did such a great job

Wsgyan

Yall gon need to look out for lupa dawg cus its been sad show after sad show😭

Zion Williams

They weren’t really clear but that dancing scene she did was her leaping off a building

Arlich Nelson

You can kinda still infer that she's on the roof and with her falling and the smash sound of the impact etc It's not 100% clear but both death options are tragic

Limini

Me too 😭

Limini

I was wondering how they’d do this scene and it was beautiful. One change was in the manga when she started dancing you knew she was on a roof of a building and what was about to come.

Bighusky

I thought they did this episode beautifully even though they essentially censored the fact that she committed suicide by jumping off a building. I don’t mind the creative choice especially since everything leading up to it was such an emotional gut punch

Nick Vaughn

I don't think her daughter's name was Aira (I haven't read the manga, someone correct me if I'm wrong). I think Silky lost her memories when she passed, but seeing Aira run up to her as a child made her remember to some degree that she had a child that she loved & the feelings of wanting to protect her were extremely strong at the time of her passing. Silky was a mother without her child and Aira a child without her mother, this must have been incredibly cathartic for both of them and the closure that Silky needed to rest peacefully (even if it wasn't her daughter necessarily). Sad but beautiful, I wasn't expecting something like this so early on in the show.

KomodoughDragon

Damn Also, those other students are absolutely dead. OST was hitting.

YungZeus

I know everyone's reeling from the crushing depression that is this episode's ending, but I need to point out that Okarun is just a speedster that doesn't actually know martial arts or how to fight in general, so the best he could come up with was to YEET himself at the enemy full speed. Or as Lupa puts it, "The Gohan". I fucking love it.

Gilthwixt

Thank you, such an important yet little detail, they add context clues with the envelope etc but I've noticed some people miss it

Tusk Ish

I loved this episode my only small nitpick is that I wish they made it extremely clear the woman was doing ballet and jumped off the building

Avoness World

Nah they did her story justice, I don’t remember it being nearly this impactful through the manga. They really did this so well. #bawlin

Edgar Chicas

Episode actually made me tear up, just like lupa man

Reisfeet

That was suppose to be the scene right there. It just wasn’t as explicit

RahOkami TM

This was supposed to be a funny weenie show, what the hell man 😭

Leandrosioty

Bit of clarification, the dress she bought was bought with money she was supposed to give to Debt collectors....When she didn't they took her child and she jumped off a building

Lightbane1905

Yeah. I am crying... lol. I hate and love it when an anime does this to me xD

Easly_Bash

I don't think she dies right there chasing the car, they show her jumping off a building

suzukiri

Manga readers fiending for the reactions all week, ready to drink the anime-only tears (they were delicious)

Gilthwixt

Bro reading this chapter hurt my soul n to see it finally animated, Science Saru did their thing

Jazmyne Mattucci

They animated this so well! Also, it's moreso implied in the anime vs the manga explicitly showing it, but Acrobatic Silky was actually dancing and jumped off a roof to commit unaliving when she couldn't save her daughter.

Beignet Blues

This was the scene I couldn't wait to be animated... they went above and beyond. This was the scene that made me fell in love with Dan da Dan. Snoting, Crying, and Shitting myself atm.

Scott Tyson

Just to clarify. At the end of her story she didnt die on the side of the road. She goes to the top of a near by building as has one last "dance" before jumping.

trippersigs22

This was just as good maybe even better than the manga version. 10/10 adaptation

RahOkami TM

Shit like this is why ppl don't like y'all

Jazmyne Mattucci

Like I said before pink hair girls is always the best girls 🤧

Luhbabytay

Wow just log out bro

Dede

Yeah this was so well adapted. Animation went crazy. it makes me look forward to story of our next main character. cause ngl to me he some of the most creepy/scariest panels in his arc. I absolutely love how Saru has been doing it so far.

Haaa?

Bro thought he cooked with this Boy if you don’t get out of this chat your weird ass Probably kicked out of class Needs to go touch some grass Making Oshi no ko fans look bad Cause you Lost any friends you thought you had And lacks the concept of a dad

Cheesecake

I haven’t felt this empty after an episode in a very long time a 20 minute masterpiece all I can say is wow

TChang23

Wow^2

MoYo

Correction to make it sadder: the mom didn't die in the street, she just tripped. After that she makes her way to a roof, dances in the rain, then dances/leaps off to self delete

Gabriel Griffin

I know the gang is gonna shed a tear or two 😔

Jigga Man

Incase anyone’s confused, the scenes where she’s dancing on the roof is her dancing off the roof, committing suicide.

PhaedrusRumple

As a manga reader, this episode absolutely went above and beyond. While Acro Silky’s backstory in the manga was tragic and brutal, it was only about 8 pages. Science Saru turned it into a whole movie. The new dialogue, the detail of the brutality the mother went through with the glass shards, the POV shot of her running, the scene of her dancing on the water, Aira’s mom getting prepped for cremation. All of that was anime-original. The studio truly knocked it out of the park. If I hadn’t already read it and been expecting pain, I definitely would’ve started bursting into tears by the end of it.

Fernando Perez

I wasn’t fully invested in this franchise before, but now I am. This series is gas. And the manga looks immaculate.

‘ ‘ TRAPPIN IN JAPAN ‘ ‘
