The second that the Maroni's showed up saying that Oz screwed them over, Sofia would know that he was the one who tipped them off about the drops and framed her right hand man. From there it would be easy to connect the rest of the facts that Oz was the one who killed her brother. If Oz had rescued her from the Maroni's then she definitely would've killed him as soon as she could. His instinct to leave her behind was correct imo.

People are more likely to be sold on something if they have a known friend/confidant to vouch for them.

While Oz does truly care for Vic and sees himself in him, Oz talking/yelling to Vic about him wanting a better life was manipulative (intentional or not). However, that’s low-key how Vic feels. He wants more in life and he can get that through Oz. It’s a situation where two things are true at once. I like Oz, Sofia, and Vic. They're great characters. I wonder where the relationship between Oz and Sophia goes from here because he legitimately said “Leave her!” 😂

In every other version his hair is different. Other than that they have nothing in common. If Vic is similar to any character it would be Jason Todd the 2nd Robin since the way Oz met him was the same way Batman met Jason. He also acts like Oz's "Robin" in this series. Also on the note of Selina and Sofia interacting, that's really interesting. It probably hasn't been mentioned because it wasn't fully clear whether Carmine knew Selina was his daughter before she mentioned it to him (He was surprised when she mentioned it but it was vague whether he was surprised because he didn't know or surprised that she somehow knew). If he didn't then there's a 99% chance his children also didn't know. It'd be so dope to see Zoe Kravitz in the finale or something though.

He manipulated Jesse by constantly ruining his life. In contrast, Oz isn’t really trying to manipulate Vic at all. It’s easy to call Vic a “Vic-tim,” but Oz is just showing him his perspective. Oz sees potential in Vic and feels a connection to him. Both have disabilities and want more out of life. Their relationship is more like a tough-love father-son bond. I think Oz might resort to manipulation in later episodes, but it’s clear that he relates to Vic, almost as if he sees himself in him.

Then throughout the episode he is taking the reins from her in conversations that she should be leading (most evident is when he names the drug Bliss without consulting her). I believe it’s unconscious to a degree, he’s operating on the momentum gained in the last few episodes but he’s forgetting both how these mobsters love their power hierarchies and why Sofia specifically wants to operate outside of The Family.

Roshi made a solid observation at the end regarding the connection among Vic, Oz and Sophia as well as how their hierarchy plays a role in their actions. Here is an observation that I'd like to share: We see Oz look out for Vic at the restaurant while he was trying to make the 'F' sound in "Steak Frites". This is paralleled in the gut-wrenching bathroom scene when Vic tries to explain why he wants to leave to Oz. Again, Vic tries to make the 'F' sound, but this time, Oz cuts him off saying, "Jesus Vic". These 2 sides of Oz are what Vic has to weigh in his decision. He has to understand that staying means that the caring Oz doesn't come without the Oz that held him hostage in episode 1. They are 2 sides of the same coin.

He's a villain so I'm not at all disappointed about him being a bad person. Villain shows a lot of the time have this complaint but I'm glad they're not trying to make him out to be a hero. They just write him to be compelling enough for us to love him as the protagonist but at the end of the day he's a mob boss and a Batman villain and I'm happy they're not being like "Actually he's a really really good guy". I also like his flaws. Much more interesting to see him make plans, maybe fuck up, improvise, and struggle with controlling his emotions. I don't really want to see a show where he's just Aizen. Also because Roshi mentioned Aizen I thought I'd say that I don't think Oz is that intelligent. He's just street-smart and experienced (Shown in The Batman too as he was the only one who happened to know a bit of Spanish to solve the "U R el rata alada" riddle), but his superpower in this verse is being the god of improvising in my opinion. On the other side look at what Sony does with their endless Spider-Man properties trying to make spin-offs about Spider-Man villains but turning them into heroes/anti-heroes. Sure he was trying to convince him, but the very next scene shows Oz drinking clearly displaying that he is anguished about Vic leaving him. Oz VERY PLAINLY wears his emotions on his sleeve when it comes to people he cares about. Last episode he gave Vic an out after he fucked up with the jewels.

If Oz took Sophia with them, he would've been screwed. Oz would get killed or Sophia would have a permanent chokehold on Oz which would ruin all his plans. Remember, all Oz really wants is getting to the top, he doesn't give a f about anyone else besides his mom and Vic.

He thinks what he's doing is perfectly right because that's the way the world is but he gets emotional when he shouldn't, fucks up a lot, and is sociopathic in a lot of ways. To him, he saw Vic as being exactly like how he was when he was younger and he's giving Vic everything he wished someone had given him. He doesn't realize that his attitude would make anyone think they're being held hostage. You can tell a lot of his psychological problems were probably given to him while being raised since his mother also had a pretty insane attitude. Such a well written show.

He wouldn't be able to pivot like that if it wasn't for his intelligence. His initial plans mess/change but everytime he pivots it's not just one thing he does. In The Batman movie, Carmine strangled Annika, tried to kill Selina by choking her, and admitted to killing her mother the same way. 10 years ago when Oz thought Sofia killed the 7 girls, he told Carmine. So he framed his own daughter for the murders he committed, and we already saw in the movie that he has a inclination for killing woman through strangulation.

I don't think there is a chance in the world he would ever underestimate Sofia like she suggested, and it was always clear to me that he was never holding Vic against his will. He genuinely likes Vic because he seems himself in him, or he sees his potential. The idea that Penguin would kill his girl to keep him bound is antithetical to the good will he's shown Vic thus far.

But their dynamic is also inherently unfair because Oz has everything Vic can ever want and need at his fingertips and he can take it away whenever. And there was always an undertone of violence if Vic displeases him, like with him forcing Vic to lie down with the dead bodies last episode. The only reason Vic is not dead is because he promised to be useful to Oz, so it was kind of implied that he must constantly fufill that role or he will be in danger again.

Also the chemist that had the last name "Bloom", is another reference to a Batman villain named Mr. Bloom. Similar to the rest of the references I don't think it means anything (at least for now) but it's cool.
