2024-10-10 07:12:44 +0000 UTCMost things in the show are very dramatized (because of course it is, it's a drama). And It's not just Korea. The military is an absolutely terrible place to end up in. In every country. It's built around hierarchy and violence. I've heard some truly horrifying stories from them. Bullying, harassment and suicide attempts are frighteningly common in the military. The Korean military has absolutely changed for the better in a big way. Abuse, harassment, and outright beatings - especially of conscripts - were very common. Not as much anymore.

Moreover, there was something called 삼척교육대대 which was a half rehabilitation centers for criminals and a military basic training center. They would beat people in there and even ban the use of toilets for over weeks. Not anymore. if you try to bully in the military someone you will get in trouble. things have changed a lot. it's much better now once soldiers were able to use cell phones. They've developed a very solid NCO corps and their officers have gotten quite good, too.

Idk how it is in the US but bullying is so bad that they had to have D.P soliders to bring back victims or people who just escape. It is very common for soliders to ecape so that they can commit self death .
