In the original the escalation of the serial killer couples boundary pushing was a lot more subtle and while the red flags where always there it made sense for them to not bail immediately. Also the serial killer couples relationship wasn’t abusive and the moment in the restaurant was still somewhat publicly inappropriate but much more intimate in stark contrast to the MC’s dead relationship.

Okay so two things: • If I remember correctly, this remake is a lot more optimistic than the Danish original, which I honestly feel is probably better for y’all to watch as parents • To answer the question at the end, the babysitter is a character in the OG and I think he does some pretty awful shit as an accomplice, so they probably swapped him out with Mike role-wise to avoid the optics of the immigrant being a villain (especially because this is at least partly UK/England based and they are having…a big ole racist violence situation over there right now). I could definitely be wrong but that’s my best guess!

The ending was supposed to be haunting but for me it was cathartic I started to unironically victim blame they got themselves in that situation I didn’t feel bad for nobody but the daughter. The original is much better. This one starts ok, pretty much 1 to 1 in the first 10minutes and the villain actor is good. After they meet at the farm, the remake kills all the tension pretty quickly, while the original keeps building it up They restaurant scene ends shortly. In the original the best and most uncomfortable part was when they start dancing and then making out. Also in the remake when they receive the bill it is too fast and you almost didn’t notice that they had to pay the bill. When they are returning home, there is a scene in the car where the dude is hearing music very loud, the protagonist wife asks to turn it down, the guy goes a little crazy and it is a little bit disturbing. I don’t remember being a scene where the kid shows watches to the girl in the original, but I could be wrong. Anyways, the remake doesn’t get that although it’s obvious, it’s only at the end that we get confirmation that the couple is actually serial killers. All in all they could still just be very strange people at this point. However in the remake they just tell the viewer pretty early. Another scene ruined is when the couple is arguing and later they see their daughter in the other room in their bed. In the original, the main couple actually connected here for a little bit and had sex, and this is the moment the dude is watching them. The windows in the original are much better for this scene also. And the whole point of this is that when the mom sees the girl in bed with the other couple (which if I remember correctly they are just naked), she feels guilty. Then, the bunny that the girl lost was actually under a seat in the car, showing that they went back for nothing, which elevates the feeling of “whyyyy”. The kids dancing scene is much more disturbing in the original. They are inside the house and the guy is much more aggressive. The kid never shows that room to the girl, the father discovers that very late and that is when we have confirmation that the couple has been killing others. The worst has to be the part when the kid basically explains that the couple cut his tongue. That is ridiculous because some things just doesn’t need to be explained. In the original, we only have confirmation that this happened when they are in the car and the woman puts out scissors to cut their daughters tongue. This is like last 10 minutes of the movie. In the original the father discovers everything and just tell the mom and daughter to get in the car and leave, but he doesn’t tell them. This leads to them being followed on the road, and he goes off the road to escape and now they are lost. Then, he leaves the car to go find help in a house, and when he goes back, his wife and daughter aren’t there. Then the couple appears with them saying they are helping and then everything starts to go down. I am still watching but this started out strong and the more I watched the worst it got

I’m surprised people are enjoying this movie. I saw the original a couple years back and when I saw it was being remade I scoffed at it as a low effort cash grab capitalizing on an ambitious foreign film that most film goers wouldn’t seek out. Not to mention the trailer was garbage and colored the recreated events of the original in such an overtly antagonistic light that the “twist” is obvious. It also likely wasn’t going to acknowledge the culture behind why they put up with the couples actions for so long. Love the content y’all make so watching this movie is going to be a lot more bearable.
