I was like Lupa hella scared of horror but I was like I’m gonna face my fears and listen to it because it’s one of the top mangas ever. And it was some guy named Horror show Mickey that did the narrations and it was the most eerily and amazing journey to experience. Honestly I’m happy y’all get to see it together and can’t wait to ride with you guys into the wild madness of the spirals.

The disturbing art work also doesn't hit as much in animation as they can't go as much into detail as the manga panel does. I get why you say it's boring though, to me this has always been one of Junji Ito's lesser interesting stories despite it being his most popular one by far

It's been a hot minute since I've seen anything that has body horror on this kind of level. They don't make hardcore stuff like this no more it seems. The gore seems very ... sophisticated? Tasteful even? Like I'm creeped out, terrified but I'm not "grossed" out? This is very intriguing and I'm excited to keep up with it with the Roshigang. And again, people can't "just move" lol. The animation process was basically a modified form of rotoscoping, first live action footage was filmed, then said live-action footage was converted into motion capture 3D CGI animation, then the motion 3D animation was traced over to produce the final 2D animation. This time and resource intensive process is part of why the anime took so long to produce (in addition to delays from Covid-19).

Obviously adapting kind of loses the creepy feeling you get when you're reading alone in silence, but keeping things black and white was probably the best thing they could have done. I'd still suggest reading it though. It only gets crazier from here and Junji Ito's art is unmatched
