I know at least in the Philippines, it’s Quail egg. That’s why the dish was called Barometz Balut. 😃 My mom bought one to at least try a delicacy from her home country once, opened it, looked inside, and we all said nope nah lol

Chil naturally isn't having any of it and Laios offers to let her sleep next to him instead so he can pet her. However Laios forgets what's appropriate to pet on a cat is not the same when you're interacting with a young teenage girl, and Chilchuck throws shit at him and let's her continue to sleep with him instead despite being uncomfortable

It's chock full of cool worldbuilng and lore, that the anime studio just didn't have the time to put in. I mean you can only exposition dump for so long before your audience starts to get bored, so a lot of less important stuff just gets left out. The mangaka also made a bunch of cute little side comics, what if chapters, character interactions, and other extra's (like how the main characters get dressed as bonus material after every volume. They are typically either really funny or very informative about certain characters or aspects of the world. Anyway, i recomend reading it if you want so see more. :)

Marcille said that they are usually weak from severe food poisoning (spewing from both ends lol) because normal people dont know how to properly prepare and cook monsters. This party is able to survive because they have Laois there to identify and take down the monsters and Senshi there to cook and preserve them.

Laios' you can probably excuse because dwarves are just way hairier than other races & what's "average" masculine to them is hyper-masculine to other races. There's some extra content in the manga that explains the shapeshifters, and it's explained that Senshi just grew up hearing really negative things about elves from the other dwarves around him, so he just had a really fucked up image of elves in his head.

The viewer is given a status quo by the main cast early on that keeps things simple, and as the show goes on and you see more characters and the world itself, you realize it’s not as straightforward as you initially assumed. It’s a good technique used correctly in this show, and you’re upset it didn’t follow your expectations.

But since the story didn't introduce its universe laws prior to the start of the show, the readers/viewers have no way to contextualize how unnatural it is to eat monsters in this World. We only realize how much of a bunch of weirdos the protagonists are when we see other characters being weirded out by their eating habits. Imagine you're watching Jujutsu Kaisen and in the middle of the series you see Yûji starting to cook curses as a dietary lifestyle. That's how weirded out you would have been if Dungeon Meshi had taken the time to contextualize normal people's diet into its plot prior to episode 1. That being said, the author being a huge DnD fan, she probably planned for her manga to work as a parody aimed at DnD fans who would contextualize it based on DnD standards.
