The El Reno on the water tower and the movie sign is kind of an Easter egg because the real town called El Reno had the largest tornado currently ever recorded(2013). It was a 2.6 miles wide EF5 multi-vortex tornado, the main funnel had a max wind speed of 313mph (504km/h) It's popular because it's the one tornado that claimed the first and most lives of storm chasers. Three of them were the popular TWISTEX team(R.I.P Tim Samaras, Paul Samaras and Carl Young). Another storm chaser also died, his name was Richard Charles Henderson. There's also a ton of footage of the tornado it's self, some from within it!

I dont know if Mr Beast is a good example considering that he literally uses charities to make sure NO ONE can come after him and say hes a bad man. Like. Intent matters a lot. Idk why we should give rich people the benefit of the doubt. ETA: I know there are some people with money who do genuine good—I dont think Riggs and Mr Beast are any sort of examples of that. Intent matters when it comes to stuff like this as “making things better” is subjective. I wouldn’t classify a guy buying up all the land because peole lost everything as..better.

Honestly it's kinda like the whole "Mr. Beast helps blind people" controversy. Some would argue that his "help" isn't genuine because he himself is profiting more than he loses, while others would argue that it's still a good deed because he is still helping people, regardless of the motive behind it. Honestly, i'm with the latter. Help is help. I don't need you to be some golden hearted Superman, as long as I end up better off than I was before then i'm happy.

Do you want him to just hand over money? He runs a business, not a charity; it would be kind of him to do that though. That’s just how life is. It’s a give and take. Charities can afford to only give and not take because there are other people that are kind enough to give to a charity, but a charity is not a business. He has to make sure his business is profitable. It really is no different from a funeral home, or a grocery store. You need food to live, without it you would die; yet, food is not free, it costs money (too much nowadays). You expect him to give everything he has for nothing in return? We can always try to give a little more than we take. I think that’s a great ideal to strive towards, but there must always be a balance; or else the relationships and societies we’ve cultivated would fall apart. Imagine giving all of you (time, energy, affection) to someone and they do not reciprocate at all. It’s not a healthy way to live, and it’ll end in misery and suffering. It’s the same with everything else: it’s a give and take.

I get that the timing may not seem great, but what WOULD be good timing? Weeks? Months? Years later? If the property is under insured or not insured at all money is gonna be tight. I get that it’s a tragic situation, but that doesn’t mean they have no other responsibilities or things to deal with. Where are they gonna sleep? What are they gonna eat? Clothes? Injuries? Shelter? These things can’t be neglected because if they are then the situation is only going to get worse, and money might help solve some of those issues. If the business man waits, the family could just end up struggling for a longer period of time. I’m not saying he’s a saint or that there aren’t weird parts about his approach. But I think it’s overall a good thing.

Gentrification is a complicated topic. But honestly, is the alternative better? And does intent really matter more than impact in situations like these? If it helps take a little pressure off the victims then it’s a positive. If you’re most worried about the gentrification of your neighborhood after losing your home, all your belongings, and maybe even loved ones, then reconsider your priorities. That happening is always gonna be a shitty situation, but that offer might help a little.

People cant just “turn down” the money when they lose everything though and StormPAR *knows* that. Thats why they’re the villain. Thats why they’re fucked up people. If your interests are monetary, chances are you don’t actually CARE about the people involved. You just want money/land. Kinda why its messed up to sympathize with people who essentially gentrify neighborhoods for profit—you literally hear them saying “oh yeah this place was family owned so Ima work some numbers up”.

It annoys me that the business man is seen as the bad guy. It’s specifically stated that most of the properties are either under-insured or not insured at all. So him coming in and offering some money to people who otherwise wouldn’t get any or as much is actually a great thing. He’s not forcing them to sell. He’s giving them another option to maybe get some money and move elsewhere if they want. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the victims want to start a new life elsewhere after such a traumatic experience. If the victims’ and his own interests align then it’s a win-win, if not then they don’t accept the money and no harm is done by offering. The business man isn’t a bad guy because he sees an opportunity to turn a shitty situation maybe less shitty.

Tornados are no joke, I'm a Nebraskan and a couple of months ago a tornado ripped through Omaha, where I'm from , all I got was a tree in my living room but some of my family lost their homes and others lost everything. I know it's a reaction and all and sorry to get somber but tornados are nothing to fuck with and mad respect to actual storm chasers out there doing stuff like this

LOL Bad ass kid story time. Once when I was young I witnessed a storm up close and personal. I remember staring out the window at all the craziness going on outside. Watching posts and mailboxes fly by, etc. I watched for hella long , at least 30 minutes. Then it all just stopped. I was so amazed at how beautiful and still the weather became - it was like I was drawn outside. I can still remember the way the sun shone down, it was like angelic light, a clear blue sky - the clearest I've ever seen and everything was so still and silent. It was like a slice out of heaven. After spending a while out there (couldn't have been more than 10 minutes) I went back inside. Tell me why, just a few minutes after, it storming outside again! Turns out, I had actually wandered out into the eye of a hurricane! Looking back, I can even remember the storm walls rising up thousands of feet into the air. I didn't realize how lucky I was for many years and my mom never even knew it happened.

This was a great reaction. I loved this movie in theaters and was so hyped when I saw yall were reacting. That said, there were a few times where yall were talking about there being warnings and evacuations. Tornados aren't as easy to predict as hurricanes. Any warning we get for a tornado is pretty last second (like most warnings are 10 minutes before the tornado hits at best) so there really isnt any chance of evacuation, just taking shelter.

The reason why overpasses are a no-no when it comes to tornadoes is because they act like makeshift wind tunnels. The winds intensify and blow even faster because of the narrow area. You're also more exposed to debris as they're basically missiles of death in tornadoes. Just to reference, in EF5 windspeeds, (200mph+) a playing card can cut through and penetrate wooden doors with ease.
