YLIA is interesting/entertaining but you’re crazy if you think that it handles its topics properly. The whole show is a manual of how not to treat someone with PTSD/abuse lmao like bringing a dude who gets Vietnam flashbacks into a gun range cuz of a cute girl (who’s kind of unrealistically unreasonable as well) I couldn’t take it seriously beyond the great music and the pacing made it feel like torture porn at times.

This is not about what we don't like. I watched both Horimiya and YLIA. Both are great. Horimiya could be in top 10 romance anime, but YLIA is right at the top with Clannad and Fruits Basket. Roshi stated that next poll will be less romance focused, so the YLIA will not be in a poll any time soon, which means it could take months, even years. Tbh it would be best if they watch one after another, but ig they don't have enough schedule for both.

The poll, even if by very little, is being won by Horimiya, even if there are more than 500 comments where the majority are people complaining that Horimiya is winning despite the fact that for them it is considered a shitty anime, this does not mean that Roshi and Sheera won't like it, but more importantly, even though there are so many people who are complaining, there are still that 52% of people who want Roshi and Sheera to watch it. Probably because a lot of people are expecting something crazy juicy or deep or complex or spicy from a highly rated romance anime and then they get annoyed when it's just a really good vanilla romcom so they call it "mid". Only other big person I've seen complain about the manga is Joey the Anime Man lmao, which confused me because he said he loved it in 2021 (after it ended) and then I think he just confused himself because he started going against everything he said and saying things that just weren't true about the series. Everyone loves the series though, the manga was amazing and show was good enough for most anime-only watchers (S1 was what made me pick up the manga because I was so sad it ended). Would have definitely been better if they just did one long 24 ep season though of course.

It did but in a bit of a weird way. S1 adapted the whole manga but cut a bunch of the side stories. There was a large outcry by the fans and the show was very popular so Cloverworks made S2 called "Horimiya: The missing pieces" which is just a compilation of the side stories they cut from S1.

Horimiya is among the list of great romance shows produced by Cloverworks. I think if you enjoyed My Dress Up Darling and Bunny Girl Senpai, it's right up your alley. They all do different things and it's a solid entry in the genre. Your Lie in April was made by A-1, which was the old name for Cloverworks. I'm a big fan of the studio so I think you can't go wrong with either of the choices.

I think the sense of urgency comes from the fact that Roshi says their next duo poll won't have romance options, so the loser of this poll isn't guaranteed a spot next time. They'll obviously watch romance anime again someday, but it might not be for a while (depending on how long they want to break away from the romance genre).

Well, my criticism of Horimiya is strictly related to the anime (especially S2). It had the potential to be a super popular multi season anime, but it decided to skip around the manga instead of correctly adapting events in chronological order. So, essentially, I'm frustrated because it's a good show that could have been a GREAT show. If only CloverWorks hadn't gotten in it's own way. I haven't read the manga yet, but from what I'm seeing, not many people have been complaining about the manga.

Nah, it just felt off and I lost interest. Although, at the time, I didn't know s2 was just parts that were left out, so knowing that now definitely makes a difference. I honestly don't remember all that much since I dropped it pretty early on in the season.

@Alexander -- I can't speak for OP, but I dropped S2 because Horimiya is a story about characters growing over time, and it doesn't make sense to watch the events out of chronological order (especially when the show keeps going back and forth in time). Having to mentally readjust where in the timeline I am during each segment and trying to keep track of what has and hasn't happened yet felt quite tedious. I'd rather just read the manga to see everything happen in the correct order (which I plan to do someday).

Yeah 2021 was the year cloverworks sped through content in like all their shows lol. That was when they made Promised Neverland S2 as well. I guess they just wanted it to conclude as a 1 season thing and just be a short slice of life romcom. If you read the manga and see everything in order there’s definitely a lot more development with the side characters. Still one of my favourite romcoms of all time though because it was just so nice and even with the cuts I loved the characters. Made me laugh a lot too

I'd suggest YLIA because, while Horimiya is a good series, the anime adaptation skips around the manga instead of telling the story in chronological order. When the biggest thing a story has going for it is the characters and how they grow over time, it's hard to justify experiencing their story out of order (literally going back and forth in time, to the point where you may struggle to identify whether certain character moments have happened yet or not). But that's just my opinion.

I can't get behind Horimiya after learning that the first season speed ran the manga. Don't get me wrong, I mostly enjoyed myself during the first season, but when I started the second season and the show kept flinging us to various points in time, I realized the series would be far more enjoyable in manga form. At least then you can experience the series at its meant to be told. In my opinion, it's hard to appreciate the character development and growth when a linear series is being told out of chronological order. Horimiya had real potential to be a multi season show, but that was all squandered by the first season's decision to skip around the manga. I'll give them points for creativity in trying to rectify their terrible decision, but that creativity wasn't enough to make S2 worth watching. So, yeah, I'll vote for the other show.
