His talent can be seen in its full glory in his other work Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro (which is my favorite manga of his, even more than Assassination Classroom). Hopefully with the popularity of Elusive Samurai and Assassination Classroom a big anime studio like Cloverworks may remake the anime for MTNN with a bigger budget one day and actually follow the manga story this time since its completed now.

So no, the manga does not reach this level of quality in terms of style. It's still very well drawn, but not as amazing as the show might suggest. If you're still curious, first three chapters and latest three chapters are always available for free without needing to create an account, over on "mangaplus" from Shueisha. (That's the official site for english releases, owned by Shueisha themselves.)

It’s not like every episode receives a specific budget or that they need to save their budget for specific episodes. These things are clearly decided on before production even begins, and the thing that leads to anime’s decreasing in quality is the schedule. That’s why Ninja Kamui got all fucked, because not only did the story get pretty uninteresting, but almost all of the animation was being done by Sung Hoo Park alone.

The Elusive Samurai and Assassination Classroom are very different stories but have similarities that make it clear it’s by the same mangaka. Tokiyoki and Yorishige make me think of Nagisa and Koro Sensei in a few ways 🥹😭💗

Iirc the manga for this is kinda old and around that era of series so it could be likely that it has a lot of inspiration from Inuyasha.

(p.s. anyone hating of Seven Deadly Sins is a loser, AND despite the budget and animation drop off, it is still one of THE best redemption stories in anime, AND it's actually a solid 8/10 when all of said in done.
