The Bear 3x4

Richie has grown so much as a character

Comments

36:00 Full support on that one. Ibra is sorry as hell. His only job is to make sandwiches and he still can’t get things right.

Asher Ealey

He's the CDC of Ever, which is Chef Terry's restaurant from last season that was filmed in the very real Chicago Michelin-starred restaurant called Ever. The show didn't ever say the restaurant's name last season, but they do this season. Anyway, he's the chef who yelled, "Fuck you, Garrett!" in Forks, to which Garrett replied, "Yes, chef. Fuck me." Adam is also seen in the first episode of this season, during Carmy's flashback to when he (Adam) was working alongside Carmy and Luca under Chef Terry at Ever. Carmy and Luca obviously both left Ever, Adam stayed and eventually got promoted to CDC (2nd highest rank in the kitchen, answers only to the Executive Chef).

DTGstl314

Lupa about to go hoop or something? lmao

Art of Trolling

random josh hartnett lol

Reckless Company

Nico was the coke dealer that Richie had to work with in season 1 temporarily and he was also likely Mikey's hookup for pills or whatever he was addicted to when he was alive. Hopefully he is out of the picture going forward 😅 We can probably assume that Richie paid him back by helping him sell and letting him use their back alley for a bit.

John Cedar

Yeah I think it's hard for anyone to just openly admit their lonely. Just a painful thing man.

Dune

Yeah Donna is her name so ig they just shortened it down to DD as a quick pet name

Oni Legend

Claire and Carmy's relationship really does nothing for me LMAO. If they would've fleshed it out a bit more in the last season and showed cute moments between them, then I'd have a different opinion. But it just feels so lukewarm

Des Bethea

didn’t they owe him money tho

Alexander Flores

Is DD Carmys Mom?

Mubarez Ahmad

More character driven than plot driven it seems

Red Death

not meant to be a deep plot point

JJ

Buddy got that TikTok attention span 😭😭

Kale

Maybe you guys should watch boiling point after the bear. It has the same real tone to but I guess more gut wrenching

Metweet .c

Not one bit

Nico

was rewatching s1 and have they explained who nico was yet

Alexander Flores

the person Sydney was talking to is the CDC at Ever, which is the restaurant Chef Terry owns and that Richie staged at in S2! not a critic. if you remember in episode 1, he was shucking peas with Carmy and Luca :-)

maanlin

If course I can, it was boring

drake is cleverer than kendrick headass

Then you literally can’t criticize it

DjSKitZ

is it just me or is nothing really happening so far this season

zILovePelmeni _

Also, it seems to me that everybody’s pinning the lion share of blame for Richie & Carmy’s beef on just Carmy, casually forgetting that Richie escalated the argument by calling Carmy Donna in the middle of the argument which was a low blow that Ritchie of all people should know not to do

Adrian Neal

I feel like each season specifically chooses one of the characters to break down & rebuild them into being better people. To me, the problem with Carmy is that he doesn’t give himself any value if it isn’t directly related to the restaurant, which is in turn guilt over him not being there for Mikey. Until The Bear reaches the aspirations that Carmy believe does Mikey’s memory justice, he won’t allow himself to heal & grow

Adrian Neal

In the very first line I said I skipped it are you retarded?

drake is cleverer than kendrick headass

When Richie didn't answer if he was lonely was just like...oof man.

Kareem Davis

She's not the devil, but she brings a lot of manic pixie energy to the show so I can understand why a lot of people would rather not have her around. I defended this scene specifically because I really think it's the only good Claire scene so far tbh. She's there as a minor character to make a larger point about Carmy as usual, but she's not bending over backwards to tell him he's the most perfect man with the most stressful/important job in the world. I also find her actual presence in the show at odds with the way Carmy talks about her, if we're meant to take him at face value. Long story short, I'd love to see more genuine connection between them if they're a continuing element of the show, and for Claire to take up more space in the show as a person than as an idea, which means this season so far (where she only exists in Carmy's head and conversations) has been especially tough to watch.

How go from sex to horrible story then back to sex mfs wildin

KingKai _

it don't make no sense but I'm not feeling Frank cuz of that Night Shyamalan movie he's in😂

sotonye ogan

😂😂

sotonye ogan

damn I love this show so much. From the cinematography to the dialogue to the character writing. I'm legitimately rooting for every single character.

Delinda Arts

With how quirky some of these reviewers tend to be... "They showed me my food and immediately took it away. Unique experience. Haven't seen it anywhere else. 9/10."

Fraudkuna

No one asked, but I feel like Claire doesn't belong in this story, and therefore does, lol. I'll somewhat explain what I mean for anyone who's bored enough to read. Carmen doesn't believe he deserves her and doesn't really know what to do with or how to value happiness or leisure. I think of the end of season 2 as he's inadvertently speaking to Claire, saying he doesn't need amusement or any of those things. He'd already made a commitment to what we can call the, "pursuit of excellence," and that seldom leaves room for thriving relationships or anything else. The work is what he knows best and the suffering that comes from it is his comfort zone. No matter how much he wants to not be alone - because no one wants to be lonely - his habits, compulsions, insecurities, and unaddressed trauma lead him to make decisions even with his character that lead to him prioritizing being exceptional at all costs. So to me Claire is a reminder that Carmen is human, and wants what we all want, but is so hurt and so lonely, & even so afraid, that it's easier to keep striving toward some idea of excellence that few people are capable of reaching than try to be happy in the way that he really wants to. That... or I'm projecting and should return to therapy, I'm really not sure lol

Roshi's beef with this man's hat is immortal lol

Day 24 of requesting Durarara

Monotone Type-F

She had an anecdote that was written to be symbolically relevant to Carmy's life and his trend of ignoring what "hurts", as well as putting things in perspective as to how bad the stress and consequences of a job really can be. But yeah, I guess if you didn't really listen to what they were saying or try to think of it contextually at all then it could seem like a boring conversation. I don't think Claire is going away though, so you'll just need to make your peace with that 😂

John Cedar

Bro did not listen to a single word 💀 if you don’t care about her that’s fine but this is just a bit dramatic lol

Michelle

The purpose was so fucking obvious lmao how do people not get it. Even if you don’t like Claire it’s a good monologue (at least, it is if you can actually pay attention and have a braincell to use)

Michelle

I have to disagree, that conversation is one of/the only time we get to hear from Claire, and its not her telling carmy that what he does is just as hard, or telling him to never apologise (bad advice), or reassuring him. She felt more like a real person in this one scene than the whole of s2. It's also one of the few times they're in frame together and don't look like their scenes were filmed without them being in the same roo..

A

The contrast between this comment and the one below lmao

Matt

You good?

lyssa

I think the purpose of Claire's story about her patient that got cut up was to illustrate how someone can be so hurt that they don't even realize it while it's happening. In Carmy's case he's so focused on making the restaurant a success that he doesn't notice the damage it's accumulating as time goes on.

Devin B

I had to skip the beginning of the episode due to that boring, nothing, conversation between Claire and Carmie. They have to have the most uninteresting romance put to camera. But maybe thats the point? Maybe the depictions of this dead relationship is supposed to act as a palate cleanser for the viewer to either cool us down from, or mellow us out for the chaos of the restaurant? Either way its awful

drake is cleverer than kendrick headass

Okay. 👍

Jamaal Ellison

I hope she comes back 😤

lyssa

Richie has had crazy growth fr

JotaroDrake

What if the reviewer was that person Fak poured the Mirepoix broth over and took it to the back?

J Man

Totally valid point my issue with Richie is he's never understood or respected Carmy's achievements so him wanting a Star means nothing to Richie when in reality it would do wonders for the restaurant. The place Richie trained and modeled his hospitality practices after had some of those awards and achievements.

Jamaal Ellison

Lupa is insane for “that” iykyk

Zion Noland

It's 100% a money maker but I would say going for a star immediately when you're training a new sous who has never worked in a kitchen like this is insane, they had people quit too so it just makes it worse. I think everyone is in agreement that the way Carmy wants it run is a good idea in theory, but he is leaning into it way too fast and it's causing the restaurant to bleed money and no one can catch up to his expectations, not even himself.

John Cedar

Sydney definitely does everything at a 10 speed

Zion Noland

yeah watch end discussion lol I said the same thing. I corrected my original thought n realized the purpose of that scene

YaBoyRoshi

Right, and before anyone comments we're not excusing Carmy's behavior.

Jamaal Ellison

I can agree with this too,it takes a lot for that bullshit star ,but its still highly coveted by any chef with skills and ambition so I can see Carmy's side of things

Xavier Baker

Perfectly put. 👏 👏👏👏

Jamaal Ellison

Yea but I think the fact that he was shown, was to elude to the fact that anyone of considerable influence could have come in at any point without Carmy or the rest of the Bear noticing.

maui

God this is so good

Dexter

That's true, whether or not you believe in their validity, they are a symbol of a certain kind of next level in the restaurant world. Like the concept of money, if everyone agrees on its meaning, it's real (even though in a literal sense it means absolutely nothing.)

maui

Damn man, Ritchie has had one of the best character arcs, his growth as a human is insane. It inspires me to become a better person when I feel like I'm drowning and I cant reach the surface. Sydney is a great leader, I wish I had someone who could tell me things directly without being so abrasive. I think they'll be ok, especially considering that the Chef from Ever said the food was great, not counting all the screaming in BOH.

maui

I think the flower thing was suppose to be meant for his mom because last ep he said his mom loved flowers I think

Kell

Appreciate it fam 💯

HBK 713 🏄🏾‍♂️

He’s the guy from last season who was talking about the smudge on the plate iirc

Bootyman555

For all we know the review could be good right? right?

maui

Richie's character development might be on par with Zuko's because he was just annoying in season 1 but started to shape up in season 2, so far I've been enjoying his growth

Devin B

I don't think the guy that Syd was talking to is a critic. I think you guys just assumed that because it followed the scene with Fak. I'm pretty sure he is the head chef at another fine dining restaurant in Chicago. I don't think he has anything to do with the Tribune review.

Michael Blake

For me she's an distraction. I don't think she adds much to the show, It doesn't matter care how anyone else feels about her. I'm only speaking for myself.

Jamaal Ellison

This show is awesome but the best part is really Richie, I see him as the man character over Carmie sometimes and his development is masterclass, Richie is just simply elevated as a character

GigaDirt

I'm really in enjoying Richie's growth. but him and Roshi are sleeping on the Michelin Stars. It's an accolade. Like an Oscar, SuperBowl ring, The Stanley Cup, it's proof your restaurant is the shit and makes travelers come from all over to taste the food so he should fucking care.

Jamaal Ellison

You guys act as if clare is the devil

Metweet .c

Sheera twins, I'm allergic to penicillin as well. I'm also allergic to amoxicillin and latex

mondawmin mall

I work in a hospital and I can agree with St Patty's Day and July 4th being bad because you get drunk people coming into the hospital either the night of or the day of and you get burned victims coming in more often than not the day before July 4th since most people start the fireworks early

Devin B

Damn, I hope you and yours are safe. Love from Dallas. 🙏🏾

vaygatti

Lupa nigga you finna hoop? You running 5s later or sum?

vaygatti

I guess I'll hot box these uploads until the power get back on in Houston 😁 smfh

HBK 713 🏄🏾‍♂️

I went from hating Richie to being my favorite character

bleach

Hey guys look everyone favorite Clare is back!!!

Jamaal Ellison

Richie character development throughout the series has been my favourite part.
