I feel bad for blud

Two words: Skip Beat

HIM

At least for me, I already knew why Marvel movies tend to suck nowadays. Creative dissonance between an overly inflated cast and crew as well as the interjections of politics that are seen as lucrative by the higher ups have been the death of countless Disney movies. Anyone who places all of the blame on the people rather than the company are often not looking into it deep enough.

Oh, That's Wild

It's why many say that some IPs simply cannot be adapted into certain mediums. Try condensing the entirety of Game of Thrones into a single movie. There are so many characters that need time and attention to get right, and movies can only spare so much for the characters that serve more menial roles in the story.

Oh, That's Wild

man the way this anime portays the troubles of the media industry and how its not just assume and believe ...rather theres more than meets the eye.....is so good...I dont theres almost no other animes who did this niche so well

Rishad GB

is that shigaraki voice?

Rishad GB

Dang I really see both sides. Anyone else think the manga artist looks like a Pokémon character tho 🤔

Arturo

I wish more authors would do this. I'm kinda tired of really nice anime getting adapted to really ass live action after the producers insert their own agenda/tastes into shows. Cutting content is one thing because its understandable that several volumes of books won't fit in a like an hour or 2 of a movie, but changing whole ass characters shouldn't be a thing.

Random Guy

I don’t know if y’all know about this anime, but several years ago, a show called Faraway Paladin came out. In it, the MC Will was friends with an elf ranger named Menel and a hobbit bard named Bee. At the end of the first season, Menel was severely injured, and part of the reason was because Will had such a loose grasp on the difference in strength between himself and others that he accidentally asked Menel to do something that he wasn’t strong enough to do. In the light novel and anime, Menel and Will argued about Will trying to do everything alone after that, but hashed it all out with minimal fighting, but the manga was different. Bee, who is an extremely kind person, went off on Will in the manga, saying things that were so out of character that I was shocked. I dropped the manga immediately because of that.

Coatl45

Because it went through several people who wouldn’t know what a creative process was if it bit them on the ass, and Japan has a bad habit of being almost pathologically polite when they can’t hide their identities.

Coatl45

She protected her babies as any parent should.

Coatl45

At first, I was a fan of Ichiruki, too. But I figured out they had more of a sibling dynamic about the time Ichigo chucked her at Renji like a football.

Coatl45

If a petty person is the one with the best chance to fix the industry, then I say let them roast whoever’s ass they want.

Coatl45

For its time, I don’t think Claymore’s animation was that bad. That said, if I heard that it was getting the FMA:B treatment tomorrow, I’d probably do a jig, but that’s because story is more important to me, and the anime had to stop because the manga wasn’t close to being done.

Coatl45

She doesn’t know. She was under the impression that he received her messages directly, mostly because he actually apologized (just like how Akane admitted fault and opened the floodgates for her own roasting), and all those middle management idiots were trying to protect their jobs and shifted the blame. They should’ve been in contact from the beginning.

Coatl45

That does sound cool. I think I might like to see it, although I’d probably have to go to California to find one.

Coatl45

I’ll give you a like cause I mostly agree with what you said, Wild, but I would like to say one thing. This episode made me realize that the scriptwriters might not always be at fault for these things. It seems like the main problems are the producers, directors, and middle management unnecessarily putting their two cents in.

Coatl45

I hated how he just sat there, staring into space like it wasn’t his problem. Is that how these things usually go? The director just lets his scriptwriter get gutted and spit roasted like that?

Coatl45

I would like that to happen. My heart broke for him, having the mangaka of a story that he loves ream him out like that must’ve been excruciating.

Coatl45

None of this is the scriptwriter’s fault. He loves the manga. It’s like Shin said, this is management’s fault. From episode one, this show has said that the most important aspect of this business is communication. Management’s failure in communication caused this train wreck. The worst part is that this mess is probably going to ruin the scriptwriter’s career, because people are going to look at him sideways when they learn that this happened and his name wasn’t removed from the credits.

Coatl45

I can agree with this. The combination of too many people trying to justify their paychecks, and the Japanese need to be overly polite is what caused the mangaka’s frustration to grow into the eruption we saw in this episode. They should’ve put those two in a room together so they could hash this out from the jump, instead of bouncing it around like they did. Now, the scriptwriter’s career is probably shot. There’s no way the fact that the mangaka demanded his removal is going to remain secret, which wouldn’t have been a big deal if they didn’t keep his name in the credits. With his name still in the credits, people are going to see that and wonder what kind of fuk-sht is going on, which will ruin that man’s career.

Coatl45

How did my niggas even tone down the aggro ranting from "reduce this retardation about warmongering etc" into the LITERAL OPPOSITE (i.e INCREASE this retardation of emotional brainrot)? I don't see how the editor making her insanely insulting rant into more polite text could possibly become inverted, surely it would just affect the less polite word usages, not the actual content itself??

Skebaba

two toothbrushes? this girl enamel is bout to be gone lol She was firing my man up and it wasn't even his fault, smh. But this show is bringing things to light that even as a person in the industry you might not really think about those issues, that's really dope.

A. P.

you know the writing and art hits different when known sociopath Roshi goes "are you ok?" with sincerity XD

Ragnar Pendon

I can’t say it feels like the scriptwriter doesn’t understand the character. I think he does. But it’s just unfortunate that poor communication and management messed everything. With every message delivered incorrectly it probably warped the story and characters more more which leads to the characters feeling different

Shin splits

I wonder how this episode hits for the "Disney is ruining Marvel" crowd

Ragnar Pendon

Naw, the enemy here was either the PROCESS or the execs for simply not getting these two in the same room SOONER! I've written a lot of stories in my day, half of them were fan fictions. In a fanfic, unless you're lame, you would NEVER compromise on who a character actually is, even if you're placing them into new situations or territories. The screenwriter knew he wasn't meant for the job, hell, NOBODY was... Except the Mangaka herself. Which is why artist like Hajime Issayama actually ran the production of Attack on Titan. By "ran", I mean if HE didn't approve, it didn't happen. Not only that, he was The Director of AoT. Same with the guy who wrote and then directed Akira (fun fact ;). I absolutely LOVE what they do with the information dumps in this show. Such insider knowledge makes me feel ready for my debut, ya heard! 😂

HIM

Thing is, I’m on the author’s side on this releasing a bad screenplay or any media written badly can damage the production of the books/franchise, even kurokawa was confused at seeing how her character went from a character with feelings and emotions into this “yay war, kill everything” type, u might say “it’s not that bad” but look at the live action Mulan, Mulan went from a character with a personality in the cartoon to this “I’m a strong woman in need of no man” type bs and failed drastically and put a bad taste in fans of the original work, and the reason was mainly because Mulan was and wasn’t the main character of the show it was both mooshu and Mulan, yet he got taken off the movies a horrible mistake that the scriptwriters probably thought it wouldn’t make “that much of a difference”

Wild

Honestly I can see the point of view of the creator, usually when u read a story if u like the story and the characters u can “feel” the characters and that happens to me sometimes, and it’s something that even kurokawa was talking about because she got down to that level of understanding, the scriptwriter probably read the story but he never felt a connection with the story and had no deep understanding of the characters and he made the grave mistake of changing a character which nobody ever likes and many shows have failed horribly because of it in our world, I feel bad for him but he fucked the story up pretty badly by changing a character you wouldn’t think much of it but it can affect the rythm of a story specially since the people who’ll be passionate about the story will be the readers of the book/franchise

Wild

It's not even the scriptwriter's fault at this point, he's not getting the right message, so how the hell is he supposed to know what to fi and how to fix it. Middle management and game of telephone goes crazy

Kazuki Ohira

sure your work can be your baby and you can be protective about it. But she's asking for things that would require building whole new sets and cost everyone else money and when she talks about breaking her contract and how she'll pay for the fee her editor goes it won't be you it will fall on the company you work for she just goes well get ready to pay up. And bitched out the poor screenwriter and didn't even let him try to explain his approach to the material and he at least so far seems very forthcoming and is a fan of her work

J-or-Dan

The conflict comes because the author is working off feel and its down to her editor whose taking notes to parse out her rants into something coherent then the game of telephone starts. Like if you get a scene and the author goes "I don't feel it revise this" I can see how people go ok acted out it the feeling will come across because there are some lines in scripts that look dumb or lame and then when in the hands of a good actor are dope as fuck

J-or-Dan

Bro I read comments like "I know kanna's eyes anywhere" and then proceeded to say she was the princess, head ass comments like that hell yea it's their fault why would they swap roles xD

BornUnMotivated

its not there fault lol, the show be turning they eyes into a guardians of the galaxy sequel for no reason

sotonye ogan

You are correct, there is no character swapping in the manga.

Sonic

Yea I was going to say this. I really don't know why people thought that lol 😂

LiquidXGravity

My hope is that the mangaka struggles to write a screenplay format since it's new to her, and the scriptwriter sends her his first draft before the watered-down advice and adjustments came through (I'm assuming it'll be much closer to her wishes, since he said he's such a fan - and even with the edits, he seemed hesitant but went through with it since he thought it came directly from her). Then they'll work on the final script together, him helping to make the proper adjustments for the play and her perfecting all her characters! Might be too optimistic, but I like the thought because I feel bad for both of them haha And I'm pretty sure those comments about Kana and Akane swapping characters are wrong, I think they just use colored contacts to portray their characters (in ep 1, when Kana gets into character in her battle scene, the "half" of her embodying her character has different colored eyes)

Maxine

Lupa's genuine confusion at the end of the episode is so hilarious lmao

Alexander Szabo

Yep, unfortunately because I was a huge fan of the Ichiruki ship.

Bloodcrusnik

Was Claymore animation that bad? I never read the manga but Claymore was the first anime where I actually felt the feeling when a show just stops mid story.

lakewood145 .

bro what are you on about they just using contacts

BornUnMotivated

Nah people were tripping they don't change the roles kanna is the yellow eyed chick there is a thing called colored contacts those comments were wrong.

BornUnMotivated

solo leveling was so not ruined lol what you on about? they kept to the source, animation had no flaws, and was overall great.

KRYUSEI

Man Abiko is so flawed and I like her for it

BloodMoonGentleWind

Arararararararagi be like "TWO Toothbrushes?!?!?!?!?"

NecDW4

Is the date with akana included having head?😞

Arima kana

It's perfectly understandable to be super defensive over your passion so I'm sure many authors have felt this way before. No one wants to see their work basically reconstructed while ultimately stripping away the core necessities to story telling; your characters. But you are correct since the changes are done for the sake of stage play. To me it's less about fuck her while hoping she comes to an understanding.

Aniki Pft

Yeah No. As an artist myself I'm 100% behind her, our work are our babies

ShaquanVirse

Honestly a big part of the issue between the mangaka and the scriptwriter that doesn’t get talked about enough comes from Kindaichi Toshirou the older guy w/ black hair. The scriptwriter had already expressed his interest and knowledge of the manga in the previous episode and wanted to try to stay as close to the source material as possible, but the one who interjected saying it’s unnecessary and a waste of time (for Akane’s character) last episode was him and this illustrated how these indirect means of communication could possibly lead to future conflict with the mangaka. In Kindaichi’s eyes taking the time to expound on Akane’s character was a waste of time to him and could be sacrificed for the run time but that feeling may not hold true with the author themselves. And funny enough this has been seen w/ both bleach and Naruto as Studio Perriot’s took their own liberties w/ each MC’s love interest. For Bleach Orihime was sidelined for Rukia with the anime adding in additional content for shipping between IchigoxRukia and cutting out some content with Orihime’s character that would support her ship with Ichigo and in Naruto Hinata was chosen to be depicted as a stereotypical 3rd wheel giving her a portrayal not in line with/ the source material or downplaying/underdeveloping scenes between her and Naruto in hopes to push NarutoxSakura ships. And ironically in works or adaptations the mangaka can be hands on w/ like Naruto the Last or TYBW both authors had expressed that was something they felt they needed to take the time to highlight and express as the original adaptations didn’t do a good enough job of doing that itself.

Jmoney

Wow Yeah fuck that manga artist, tripping over a 2-hour play Buddy already said that character motives were sped up cuz there's only so much you can put with so many characters and the time they have in the play but she a child that lack social skills so there's that lol.

sotonye ogan

Honestly the mangaka should've had contact with script writer directly

bleach

Hopefully the scriptwriter gets another chance because of how passionate he was about taking this job. Maybe if he works directly with the author they can actually make a script with the author's intentions fully realized instead of doing this he said she said game.

Devin B

World Trigger is so good!!!

Zoe

lol i know i read the manga over a year ago but i dont remember that. And i believed them too lol

Travis James

For sure, they're both valid

Orlandez Malone

I love this show, the industry drama and insight stuff is fun

Drake Chuckle

Stagearound or 2.5 plays, are basically a playhouse with multiple sets. The audience section spins around to point at different stages so that they can go from one scene to the next without interruption. They can also play video or place images on the curtains. It's pretty neat.

Huemon Nottabear

If I'm correct one of these animes actually happen decently BEFORE the other. I think oshi no ko is "older"? Point is, timeliness is exactly aligned I think

Dyastro

True middle man was like yeah this lil harsh finna change it up nigga what 😂

Kingmakaii

But that the thing, because of the game of telephone poor dude was making changes that he was TOLD that the author wanted. It wasn't even that he did whatever, all he did was what he was told. So it's the middle man's fault for giving false directions.

Dyastro

Feels bad for both, cause the middle men affected both writer's craft. As an artist I get both sides very much

Dyastro

So....it was all a lie from the get go?....

Dyastro

Lol man's petty~

Dyastro

Holy this episode went by faaaaast

Arkan Matlub

Both Princess Sayas had red eyes. The swap was noticed because it was KANAs red eyes. Tsurumi has yellow eyes and Akane doesn’t have yellow. Also Kana has a shorter face

earthphoenix7068

I get why she would be upset but still not cool to attack the scriptwriter like that.

lyssa

OH THIS RELEASES WEDNESDAYS?? For some reason I thought it was Thursdays 😭 thanks for the reminder lmao

Witchdaggah

Pretty sure I know what you’re talking about but that was just a one-off special chapter. If the Kaguya sama anime hasnt caught up by then they might just skip it altogether

Deiondre0

Idk what the comments were yapping about with switching roles because of the eye colors but Kana and Akane always had their prospective roles from beginning to end of the play. So if their eyes are the wrong color compared to the actress it's because they have color contacts in or smth. Also, yes, the theater they're talking about and its technology is a real thing. But they'll go into details on that next episode.

Gilthwixt

Also technically gogo loser ranger (as I've heard complaints) and undead unluck. As a manga reader of undead unluck it hurt to see the "feeling" of the pacing affected by all the flashbacks, it's very clear that all those recaps were there to have the 1st season end where it did. Cause what will happen AFTER the 1st season.....yall....ain't ready.... Ironically enough, it was the very first episode that got me to binge read the manga. Even when I went to NYC for fun, reading the manga on the subway/ train ride seemed more important to me lol.

Dyastro

Ngl Iast week I was moving like the author this ep because episode 1 while good cut alotta shit😭😭. they fixed it this ep though

Michael Afful

Well this 1 hit hard. I just reflecting on all the anime that was so great in manga but got ruined after anime adaptation. Tokyo Ghoul, Berserk "Golden Age was great," 7 Deadly Sins, Claymore, Solo Leveling, and anymore.

Rin Okumura

the original manga author of oshi no ko was in a really unique situation that allowed him to write this story. He is the author of kaguya sama which got one of the best anime adaptations period, but then he also had the experience of having bad live action adaptations too. He's also close friends with A LOT of people within the industry so he took oshi no ko as an opportunity to let a lot of hidden voices be heard. Also, like you guys said, since he was the author of kaguya and with how popular oshi no ko was before the adaptation he had a lot of clout to pull to make sure this adaptation was good too. I think one of Aka's best talents as writer is how in touch with the culture he is and you can really feel it in his stories.

awwtysm

the opening scene is just meant to show the characters as they are in the manga/anime of tokyo blade -- not the actors

kattykat

Uhhh Kana and Akane switching roles, I'm pretty sure that's not true. The colored eyes for the roles are probably just contacts, cuz Kana has red but her character in the play has yellow, Akane has blue eyes, her character has red.

pmreez

Like in the anime adaptation of Bleach it makes it look like Rukia was Ichigo's one and only, but in the manga it's obvious that Orihime was the one.

Bloodcrusnik

I feel bad for the scriptwriter. He was certainly in a tough position, but at the same time. I'd forever be pissed if my work was changed so drastically in a way i don't like. Look at the mangaka we saw in season one and how that went

Orlandez Malone

Not a Failure of either of them but rather a failure of management.

KasaiKouhai

I feel bad for Goa. But mad respect for Abiko for putting her foot down and standing up for her work like that.

Modiveram

When I was reading this part in the manga i actually agreed with her like idgaf if you change the plot bro but do not just be going around changing my mother fuckering characters and making them say and do shit they would never do or say

Kingmakaii

just a head's up, Kana and Akane do not wrap roles!

kattykat

The mangaka saw what happened with game of thrones and she said nah not me and mine

PJ Rivera

It's so crazy that the scriptwriter and manga author never met in person to discuss one time. Such a failure between all of them

Kintama

Also Sheera your hair looks great!

Lola

Please check out Wolrd Trigger next 🙏

Lola

Yehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hasnain Khan

Episode flew

lyssa

I actually feel so bad for the scriptwriter. This has been living rent free in my head all day. Also since the kaguya sama anime isn’t even closed to finished, I wonder how theyre gonna handle the cameo from THAT character since it’s kinda a spoiler. I’m not a manga reader but it was everywhere when it happened

King of New York

I don't ! He can munch on that di-

Kenny Dacosta

no way we got roshi saying blud before gta6
