Yes this is pretty disappointing. Weirdly enough, I agree that it would have been nice to have a bit more "padding/build up" before the last arc, but this looks like this is going to be a pretty slow training arc which is not exactly what I would have wished.

The author explains in a chapter note that the visual effects appear that way to people who are skilled enough to perceive them. Tanjiro's sword looks like a water dragon when he's moving with it to the demons, Sanemi is using actual repeated slashes to add cutting winds, and Hinokami Kagura is him exerting so much force on the blade it heats up that special Nichirin sun infused metal, which is why it burns so badly.

It depends on where they will end the season. The manga content for the Hashira training arc is even shorter than that of Mugen train movie, so saying it would be 5 eps is not exaggerating at all. Either they add more original anime contents (the mission of Wind and Serpent Hashira at the beginning is one of those), or they will show the beginning of the next arc. I hope it is not the latter because it will be one hell of a cliffhanger.

Havent finished it yet, but to answer why it looks like a movie Lupa, it was a theatrical release. They had the last episode of Season 3 and this episode bundled into "Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training". Honestly worth the money spent on a ticket, watching it on a TV does not compare to the 8k HDR THX spatial audio (and any other buzzword you can think of) experience i had with some popcorn. Ufotable was made for the big screen imo.
