He talks fairness in regards that crows have to eat but we see that kitten was not there by accident. Some human left the kitten there. Was that fair? Why is fair for a human to leave a kitten to die but not fair for another human to save that kitten? If we zoom out a bit more, we could also examine is it fair that humans have brought predators like domesticated cats into areas killing of most small rodents which then deprive birds of their pray. I think the anime is cooking something here with the themes of consequences of human actions.

Sorry bout that, but I also have to say that the flashback isn’t what I’m talking about when I say his character is a lot easier to understand in the manga. They have pretty much a full conversation while planning that is removed in the anime, and it’s not even that the scene was removed the dialogue itself was changed. This means they have no way to flash back to this convo to get a better idea of his character because the moment never happened. I also never had a problem with it overly explaining things, and rather thought that most stuff was adequately explained, could just be me tho.

I get getting mad with how they explain things, I'll admit the last part was rushed. But I would wager that they'll explain things for Hibiki later on, they'll probably sprinkle it through out the story instead of dialogue dump everything in that flashback. Because I re-read the manga and I can tell you, the manga does a lot of telling and not enough showing. It doesn't trust the readers enough to get it so it overly explains things. So, sure one episode wasn't the best, but from what I remember seeing this show is supposed to be getting 2-cours.

Also this is the first real full fight we get in the manga and the first showcase of just how outmatched D is in a real battle with any of the high level rangers. Also the plan is hype when it’s unfolding.

Hibiki’s back story had a few more scenes. The discussion/planning with D and Hibiki was a little longer as well and had more depth. I’m not mad how they did this ep I get it. I read the manga this isn’t really an important fight seen the next episodes is really when the story starts.

They cut out half the fight, half the explanation of what’s happening, and moved around stuff so much that none of it has even half the impact it did in the manga. It was so bad in comparison to the manga I got mad watching the episode. I wouldn't have even gotten mad in the first place if the fight wasn’t top tier and among my favorites in the entire series. Butchered the fight so bad I got flashbacks to the 2016 berserk adaptation lmao.
