They did that with solo leveling (granted it’s a 12 episode anime and wasn’t entirely needed) but it’s the most disliked anime episode on crunchy roll now, the show is so good and people were mad they had to wait an extra week to get back to the main story. I doubt any studio looking at that is gonna think “that was good idea, let’s do that next time”

I know it's not the studio's fault at all it's the publisher(s) mainly. I hope we just only get the normal recaps in season 2 then not many people can really complain about anything.

I feel a lot of that time could’ve been spent on the more of the story because there is a lot also, we probably could’ve got it afterward where they explain some of the characters and their powers instead of the next episode spoiler stuff

That way they don’t have to work extended recaps into each episode and people who want a full recap can watch it. People who don’t can skip it entirely. Everybody wins and the end result is the same. The actual episodes will have a better viewing experience. I hope we get S2 and that it’s better in that regard.

It would have absolutely been rushed plus you need time to tell a story this detailed and intricate. & honestly as a manga reader this was probably the best place to end season 1. But also no anime I’ve seen has “perfect pacing” compared to the manga so with a recap here and there it doesn’t take away from the story. Similar to books turning into movies there will be changes that can’t really be avoided.

TMS was apparently/allegedly in charge of production and planning, while David Prod. just did the animation. Makes me think that TMS is responsible for the terrible blocking (and ofc the director obviously played a part).

Hopefully whoever the director is for next season knows exactly when to end so we don't have to go through early 2000s shonen level recaps. But this definitely the best shonen I've seen in while besides chainsawman. Jjk mha feel generic by comparison

I don’t think it’s just the egregious recaps where the time could have been used to make the story clearer, it’s very frequent little details that aren’t technically errors but aren’t the best either. Just a small example that’s indicative of the adaptation as a whole, Autumn telling Andy he would make a good bookmark happens on the panel where she closes the book on Andy. The anime times it perfectly so that the line doesn’t line up with the action so it loses all of its impact. A lot of little poor decisions like that were why I think this adaptation is shaky, but the amazing lore and world that was built shines through still. By the way, the artifact that was used on Rip by Feng and Anno was explained properly in volume extras. It’s called Life is Strange. If you age someone up you age 10x that but if you age someone down you lose that many years x10. If you haven’t lived that long or won’t live long enough using it will kill you instantly by aging you to dust or making you disappear. This is from volume extras on the volume this season ends on so no spoilers.
