tbh its easter egg central while also getting through the main story. i dont mind the differences because like sheera said, it keeps you on your toes. they still kept faithful to a lot of the more prominent scenes and i like that. also having admiral zhao being more at the forefront than he was, or other characters like gyatso is always a plus. i think that people should just enjoy it for what it is, idk why its so hard for the world to just accept something at face value instead of comparing it down to the atoms every single time. they are doing what they can and even though this isnt some god send show its still LEAGUES above that M Night bullshit and that should just be appreciated.

N the show feels more like a Zuko show than Aang. I just wish Shao was more serious n threatening he was a menace in book 1 but here he feels like a joke

Putting Teo and his dad and Jet in Omashu worked, although I’m gonna miss seeing another air temple. Still don’t think it should be adapted, but people always undervalue animation as a legit form of media.

Who cares if a movie flops when all the loss is compensated, and further rewarded by random unheard of organizations that are somehow involved... I have no hope in any attempt to recreate a live-action version of a cartoon/anime, especially not ATLA - despite this being a quality try, it is still just a try, and the original will always be the original, I am just glad this one isn't like the last movie we got LOL

2024-03-09 14:24:08 +0000 UTCI give this show so much grace and open-mindedness because I recognize that it’s not going to be an identical adaptation and different media requires different treatment. It’s a fun time. That said, I do have at least two hills to die on: • Zuko should not have a left eyebrow and it’s dumb that he does. 😭 Modern TV is terrified of making major characters anything less than conventionally attractive and it ends up looking silly. Hated it in the movie and I hate it here. My only exception is if they did try practical scar makeup and it affected Dallas’s eyesight in some way. • Overly sympathetic villains. I love seeing different backstories or motivations but sometimes it’s truly not that deep and downplaying their cruelty is more of a flaw than a benefit. (The costume design fucking rules and I don’t agree with some of the pushback about the clothes being too clean, BUT native speakers have pointed out that a lot of the props with written language are super badly / woodenly mistranslated and they very much could’ve double checked with more people before finalizing stuff. Not sure if it’s just written Chinese or if they used a mixture of Asian languages depending on location, but plenty of people of Chinese descent have been like, “this makes no sense lmao”)

It's like mortal kombat with Raiden's name being wrongly pronounced as "rayden" but at this point we've had those wrong pronunciations in our heads for those characters for so long that there's no turning back.
