Jinshi showed her the utmost respect and given his station, what he did was probably quite inappropriate as well. She is a low servant who slept in HIS bed and received care from his personal attendant. He did also promise her the ox bezoar as a reward so that's probably coming soon. The treatment and care Maomao gets is a direct reflection of how much Jinshi cares for her. Idk what you were expecting?

Shaggy hair boy (I wanna call it an Ash Ketchum haircut so bad lmao) is Lihaku, who was Maomao’s escort to the pleasure district and in love with Pairin at Verdigris House—he’s also the guy who’s generally a little dumb. 😅 Basen is the straight haired one that Jinshi was sparring with in that one episode; I think they might be best friends.

Maybe it flows better this way, but having more info makes it better. Fighting the urge not to just read to the end of the arc, or just all of it.
