Idk, he was ok with her breaking in Kai & that seemed like something that would be a much bigger deal to him than her beating him in a fight, but maybe that was just the times. He also probably didn't expect THAT, which is how it usually goes, people can't see that the puddle is actually a 100ft deep lol. He probably just expected a hurt tomboy with who could fight some, not whatever tf she be pulling out, in his defense. You can also look at it like, even though she loved him, she was totally fine with putting a sword to his neck while he didn't even want to unsheathe his sword (probably him being a cocky & he still fought her, but still). I think there was definitely hurt pride involved & him selling her horse (& calling her a monster) was too much, but WHO would actually be fine with that!? I don't think many people would be down for that at all (I'm almost certain that that's a red flag & anybody with a brain would skedaddle in the modern day even. yeah its the past, but still). If she had just beaten him with the sheath on, I would say he was just insecure, but the insistence on taking off the safety & going OUT OF HER WAY to put a knife to his neck, to me, adds another layer to it imo. Every other story where a man is mad a woman beat him, it's blatantly obvious & no one denies it. Also, man people can't even communicate in the year of our lord, I can't even be mad he didn't even though it sucks.

I get all these points about how Mykkio could of been scared but he asked to see who she was, and she showed him. Its more insecurity then fear, because honestly with a bitch that skilled by your side, you could of looked at it as a positive. If he had opened up to her about how uncomfortable he was, especially after he had said "enough," instead of being spiteful, maybe things could've turned out better. Idk. I can see both sides of Mikio and Mizu. What Mikio did was wrong of course, but Mizu shouldn't have taken their duel past a certain point, making Mikio extremely uncomfortable. That said, both of them were accountable for the events that occurred.

I agree with what you said, it's apparent that Mikio was uncomfortable with Mizu's taunts and skills, and it reminded me of when Azula liked a guy from a party in avatar but her personality made him change his mind.

I don't think Mikio was upset that he lost their bout. I think he was scared. There's something to be said about how trauma survivors even when attaining a happy life can inadvertently ruin it for themselves; because they were molded by that trauma, they live through functions created to survive it. In that scenario Mizu was displaying more than swordsmanship, they were showing the thrill they find in lethality despite Mikio attempting to deescalate several times. Of course it's frightening, terrifying to have a blade pressed against your neck by your own loved one :( Regardless, Mizu is such a tragic character who always deserved better. And Mikio's rejection hurts as badly as his possible betrayal in the end.

It is definitely not common to spar with blades. Samurai commonly used wooden swords to mitigate injury. But he did swing at her with a blade after she tossed it to him, and he was out of pocket when he lost

He’s a Samurai, so he’s been training like that for decades. It’s normal for swordsmen of that level to spar with a blade. The sparring ends when the winner has their opponent in the kill position. She wasn’t doing anything unusual. That’s just how warriors play. Husband just couldn’t handle the sting of being beaten by a woman, especially after losing his title.

looking back I think it's a mix of pride that she beat him so easily and fear that she went all out in a simple spar, because she's never had to hold back before and was clearly enjoying the fight. I think that fighting/sparring is both an expression of love and foreplay for Mizu, and one of the few things she does that she's good at and enjoys

Everything about this episode was perfect. The three simultaneous narratives. Mizu being symbolized by the ronin in the first half of the story only for it to shift to the onryo for the second half. Her finally abandoning her humanity and killing that kid at the end. Her whipping out a crafting table mid fight ad making a naginata. Akemi finally succumbing to her fate in the last frame. Absolute peak.

I think Mizus husband was just genuinely scared of Mizu after the practice duel. She got exited from unsheathing blades and near death encounters during the fight but you could tell he was uncomfortable. At that moment he probably did consider turning her in. But i don't think he would have, his character didnt seem like the type and i think he may have actually loved her. But the story doesn't tell on purpose.

Man amazing but tragic storytelling this episode. The full tale of Mizu and why she is the way she is. Its funny because early on in the episode i had just been thinking if we’ll ever explore the idea of what and who Mizu is outside of her revenge and pact like if she does accomplish her goal, what does she do afterwards? But this kind of answers that It reminds me a lot of in Attack on Titan, Eren has that line thats like “i was born in this world so i have to destroy it or i have hate” or something where its just like Mizu was born in the world she was and from the get go had so much hatred and malice poured onto her that all she could do was pour all her hatred and malice back, turning her into this demon with no emotion or love or probably a vision of a life outside of violence and revenge. That being said I don’t know if it was just a pride thing that scared buddy. I think it was also just how much violence and ig killer instincts she had that she’d been surpressing to pretend. Like Mizu is SO skilled with blades and tools for killing(and its also all she really knows) that i think the fight and her tenacity for violence scared him alongside his pride being hurt

Sometimes people miss the point, and think, "The issue was that either one could have betrayed her, and that was enough for her". But no. At the moment he saw her, and then ran, he had already betrayed her, and she wasn't going to fall for the lies after. At the moment she had given herself to him, and then her mother mocks her for it, she realizes she had already betrayed her before, it being for her was all a lie. So she was already sure they've both betrayed her, and he was only "in love" with her when he thought he had something beneath him. Then she kills him with a perfect throw, the type of throw she pretended before not to know in order to win his love.

It isn't like Mizu knows for certain she can beat the army, so why start with that option? Also, she didn't kill that girl out of the kindness of her heart, she needed a favor. You literally tried to kill me twice a few hours ago, we’re not friends! Also, she almost died several times, and Mizu wouldn’t want that extra baggage to look out for, and making another enemy from the lord that is trying to get his daughter back. I’m with Mizu on this one
