I'm personally of a different mind. Granted I don't read the manga but in my understanding, the main plot is Sukuna and Yuji. It's been about them since episode 1. There are arcs, but behind all of it is Yuji supposedly collecting all of Sukuna's fingers and also supposedly getting executed after it (though it could go multiple ways once he has all 20 of them). But these arcs also affect that main plot since he's collecting more fingers each arc. Now he's got most of them already and we slowly find out more and more about both Yuji and Sukuna. And these revelations do thicken the plot like, "what IS Yuji and was he part of a big scheme all along? What was the pact that Sukuna made with Yuji that he obviously keeps a secret?"

People often forget that since he was overshadowed by the unparelleled genius/talent of Gojo, but dude was really HIM in his prime. As the person inhabiting his body said, if Geto hadn't been spread so thin with his curses that night (and if he'd been a bit less manic), I genuinely believe he would've beat Yuta down in JJK:0. Where the sorcerer is the one expending cursed energy to use a catalyst to form a cursed technique 2. From what I understand, it seems this scene exists to make Nanami's death even more miserable. Nanami lived a honorable life trying to help people and wanted to go to Malaysia, but died chopped in half without achieving anything. Mei Mei on the other hand lived a life of self-interest using other people as disposable tools for her own gains (She's teasing her little brother sexually to make sure to hold him under control. She's literally a sociopath), and she got to live Nanami's dream. It's as if the author was trying to say that only selfish people make it in this society. Tbh it seems to be a recurring theme in the series, as it was stated numerous times in the story that the stronger sorcerers are always the more conceited ones. The author seems to believe that the key to happiness in this World is selfishness, and that philanthropy is the fastest way to martyrhood. The same rhetoric can be seen between Yûji's character, who keeps trying to save people and keeps suffering because of it, and Sukuna's character, who is happy just being on top of the World, despites the lonely sentiment that goes with this rank.

To add more context: Choso recognized Geto as Noritoshi Kamo, the man who mixed his blood with his mother and a cursed spirit to conceive him. Kamo is a clan whose trademark ability is blood manipulation. This is why the Kyoko student was surprised Choso also used blood manipulation, showing they are of the same bloodline/lineage. Also the same reason Choso's other brothers had blood related techniques. Something to note is Geto(the brain) said he has gone by many names, so Noritoshi Kamo can be one of many important/not important bodies he has taken over in however long he has been alive.

Just a refresher but during the movie, Geto says there are currently 4 sorcerers that are classified as Special grade. Gojo Satoru, Suguru Geto, Yuta Okottsu, and Yuki Tsukumo. Yuki is the one we know least about but according to Geto, she is powerful yet only takes assignments she wants. And in almost every shot we’ve seen her, she’s had that floating snake around her. A couple things, Yuki was shown in beginning of S2 not the movie lol, she talked to Geto when he was struggling with the star vessel's death. Kamo Noritoshi is the man who engineered the death paintings. He has been swapping bodies over generations to stay alive. They are essentially saying he used Yuji's mom at some point as an experiment that made Yuji. That's also an assumption (I haven't read that far in the manga) but I think it's the best guess.

Also @Roshi, Two people have the name Noritoshi Kamo. The student and the person inside Geto's body. The reason the student Noritoshi was surprised with Choso is because the Kamo Clan's Hereditary Technique is Blood Manipulation, which the student Noritoshi can also do (we've seen this in his season 1 fight with Megumi & Hanami). Psudeo-Geto as Noritoshi Kamo created Choso and his other 9 siblings (the Death Womb Paintings), which explains why he has the Clay's Hereditary Technique.

BTW Roshi/ Sheera/Lupa, this is the point where you see just how hopeless it is for the heroes because nobody on their side is equivalent to a Special-Grade Sorcerer aside from Yuki Tsukumo (because she is one). Look at how easily Uruame was able to disable the ENTIRE group with little effort. Now, Choso is considered Special Grade, but on the level of an average Special Grade Cursed Spirit, which are all generally weaker than Special Grade Sorcerers. Probably at best worth a few Fingers of Sukuna, but as we know, Jogo was equal to around 8 or 9 (being generous) and there is NOBODY on the heroes team besides Gojo and Yuki who can fight Jogo lol (not counting Yuta since he's elsewhere). Also, Gege Akutami stated in the manga volumes that if Mahito didn't get hit with Black Flash before transforming, he would have easily killed Yuji lol.
