So to explain what happened with the time lag hit before the final black flash is that Mahito used his idle transfiguration on himself back to his original state so that Yuji's punch would not hit it's mark as he rolled his shoulder back. Mahito originally was going for a left punch but it was a feint as he was actually aiming for a right upper cut followed by a elbow blade. He just wasn't expecting a second hit to come in which stalled him for a second which gave enough time for Todou to bluff him. Also, I think Todou can continue going on as a sorcerer even without both hands. He never used his technique unless the cursed spirit or sorcerer were special grade anyways. Just my observations. Plus knowing Todou he can probably revive his technique with his thicc cheeks later down the road.

I feel like people take the whole stalling out the kill thing too seriously. Like if the plan is for the story to have Geto to save Mahito, he will appear before Yuji finishes him anyway. Then we don't get this scene of Mahito in fear and Yuji's resolve to anihilate curses from now on. Like the end result is the same its just for telling the story.

When yuji was walking down mahito it heavily reminded me of when Sasuke Hawked down danzo minus the evil smirk. This could be recency bias but this has been my favorite episode so far. I mean it had it all from mahito VA going crazy from beginning to end with his looney tune antics then mental breakdown at the end. Then there was my man todo and his psychosis winning the day yet again this guy is full on living a slice of life anime in his head 😭. I'm glad I got to hear the opening song to it. We got yuji almost going full gon with his rock paper scissors and emotionless face. Then there's mahito's distorted killing form that shit was pure heat 🔥 even more so animated. Mvp gotta go to todo though without boogie woogie itadori would've gotten mirked expert teamwork at it's finest. There's only a handful of episodes left and from what I remember maybe just maybe we might get a glimpse of one of the goats now that nanami gone and gojo doing time if he shows up at the finale everybody going crazy. P.S. I love everyone hates mahito but recognizes him as a good or true villain which makes you want to see his downfall that much more .

Also the lag punch! While training with Nanami in season 1, Yuji accidentally developed a technique where his cursed energy lags behind his body, since he had poor control back then. When he met Todo and began to learn more, his control improved and his cursed energy no longer lagged behind. What we saw in this ep is Yuji figuring out how to use this technique on command, in other words, his opponent gets hit with a physical heavy blow from Yuji’s absurd strength, then gets hit with a second blow from his lagging cursed energy!

In fairness in the manga the chase sequence was a bit shorter and had geto show up almost immediately. Not complaining but I noticed the sentiment of yuji playing with his food, while it may seem that way yuji never had enough time to finish him. No, Mahito doesn't "damage" the soul. He "reshapes" it. In the Junpei arc, Mahito explains he had to practice *a lot* to transtigure humans without killing their *bodies*. It was the case that this wounds from Mahito's IT were impossible to heal, Nanami would've bled out after their first bout in the sewers. But he didn't and recovered. Also, the relationship between "body", "soul", and "mind" is a huge running theme being explored through JJK. Even Kenjaku describes it as mysterious, and even Mahito, despite being able to see the "soul" tangibly doesn't fully understand it. Sukuna probably has the best understanding as he was somehow able to split his into 20. And Toji even had a body so strong it overrode the soul. TL;DR, the body-soul link is still too mysterious to definitively say Todo's CT will never return.

Roshi is right no one can use black flash at will but you have to remember landing 1 black flash opens the gateway to landing more black flashes. Mahito and Yuji both know this Yuji uses this knowledge and the fact that he landed a black flash a couple of seconds ago to his advantage he tricks Mahito into thinking his next attack will be a black flash this causes Mahito to panic. Mahito undid his armor in the area where he wanted Yuji to hit him he was planning to reinforce with cursed energy and tank the black flash then kill Yuji by going for his neck. Mahito undoing his armor allows Yuji to hit him with divergent fist the secondary impact catches Mahito off guard. Todo then claps his hands making it look like Mahito and Yuji would switch places Mahito falls for it which gave Yuji an opening to land a black flash. 500 IQ plays from both Todo and Yuji.

Yuji’s Delayed Punch was his Divergent Fist move from way back. He hadn’t used it in a while because he got better at controlling his Cursed Energy after learning from Todo and achieving Black Flash. Divergent Fists was created because of his previously poor Cursed Energy Control that had him delivering a physical punch before his cursed energy could output. What’s cool is that we see in this fight he can now choose when to create a Divergent Fist due to his better Cursed Energy Control. BTW Divergent Fist is not a cursed technique.

Granted, Yuji had assistance, but for a first year student, six months into having ‘cursed energy’ and taking on a disaster curse… yeah, it wasn’t a ‘fair’ fight due to the handicaps on Mahito, but Yuji is still him regardless.

Mahito is one of the nastiest anime villains I’ve ever seen. What makes him so compelling is his irritating fighting style. He’s so persistent with it that you can never anticipate what kind of freakish thing he’s going to come up with next. He plays with human lives like play-dough. For him to squish humans into his own desire as if they were made for one purpose only- a blockade. A bullet. A weapon. A salary man a a dead end job gets molded into a play thing, a nurse, a single mom, a son coming home from school. All their efforts diminished to just one thing. Nothing but a play thing. It deeply reminds me of the quote “ toddlers are like miniature versions of serial killers. They have no moral conscience, they do as the please and are easily angered when they don’t get what they want.” That’s because their prefrontal cortex isn’t fully developed, the same with serial killers. But with a normally developed brain and a guidance system the child can grow up to be better. Mahito never did and never will. He is a highly creative psychopath. Noticed how he was crying like a toddler when he knew he ran out of humans to pawn into playthings, Like a child that doesn’t get their way he cried and threw things. On god- Yugi should have ended him asap.

Mahito said why, unless/until Yuji accepted that he was the same as Mahito, he could never win. When Yuji went from "I need to save x amount of people" to that point he reached here where its "I'm gonna save by killing you curses because, I actually share the same disdain that yall do" it was wraps. Mahito loved messing with and fighting Yuji but couldnt stand Nobara or Todo and you could see it in his expressions when first encountering them. He had nothing but sideeyes and straight faced at first, why? because he cant toy with them mentally and they've accepted that they arent "good guys" and the facts of the life they've chosen. Yuji was mentally fried by the losses, as well held back by that part of him that doesn't see himself as a killer (even if he's killing irredeemable creatures for a good cause, he's STILL killing them without a second thought like Mahito and curses do to humans). Notice the hands he gave Mahito every time he got a mental pick-me-up from Todo and Nobaras help. He was always him, he just kept pretending not to be, because being him in JJK involves being not that great of a person and/or deeply screwed up. Think Sukuna, Geto, Gojo, Toji, they AALLLLL got something wrong with them between the god complexes, superiority complexes, despair, mental breakdowns, etc. (Todo HAS to count for mental problems too).

Though, I do wish there was narration for their final clash. As the specifics around what Mahito was trying to do and what Yuji did before Todo tricked him was sadly lost in translation

I love the artistic depiction from the animators this episode. Yuji resembled Sukuna so hard here. His epic cut that makes him look like he has an extra mouth like Sukuna. The red eyes contrasted with a black shadow. Unwavering focus. But most importantly, narratively Yuji becoming the embodiment of Sukuna's philosophy he was talking about at the end of episode 16 when he was being a counsellor for Jogo. To cast away everything, plans, future, reasoning. To just desire and drive to do something so badly which is killing Mahito. He said fuck the reasoning, I literally will just kill all of you curses. I've been waiting for that scene when Mahito got actually terrified and Yuji's monologue for the longest time. It's my FAVORITE part of that arc for me. These voice actors need to win awards for this. That "lag in time" is Yuji's Divergent Fist ability which hits the mark the second time. They described in the manga a bit better the implication was there if you remember it was a habit that tried to break a while ago to properly learn how to harness cursed energy, but now he can use it without it interfering.
