I gotta admit, it doesn't feel like Mark has earned the right to damage a Viltrumite at all yet. If there was some major training, we didn't really see it. He seems stronger but Nolan seemed thousands of times stronger than him in S1 and I get the impression that Nolan is not among the strongest Viltrumites at all.

It’s so easy for us to disassociate and change our tone as soon as we can dehumanise something which is exactly what the viltrumites do to us. The fact that we look like them is only relevant insofar as it becomes more palatable for them to breed with us (as seen from this episode) but ultimately unless you have their blood you are simply below them in the chain and they will easily commit atrocities without blinking (to our and invincibles horror despite our propensity to do the same). I think it was really cool of the writers to point out this sorta hypocrisy in our nature which further develops the character of omni man in a way which makes him far more interesting than other “bad guys”

The bug people look like bugs, but they clearly have much more intelligence and autonomy than earth insects. You could liken the behavior of how certain insects behave on earth to that of a fungus more than animal. Instinct and simplicity of brain function drive most of what they do. If cows could sit down and communicate to us in a human language that they think it's fucked up we are killing them for meat, I think a lot of people would feel differently. If animals were literally pleading for their lives in the slaughterhouse, it would probably be pretty hard to keep that place staffed. This is why what Omni Man did was so fucked up. He could hear and fully understand the pleas for mercy from humans and he is aware of their sentience, he just doesn't care. There are truly some classifications of organisms that do not experience pain and suffering the way we do. Plants, for example. It's still iffy, we do not really understand how different species experience the world, but it's clear there are different categories.

It's because they can't communicate with us and demonstrate their intelligence. The reason the majority of people are fine with killing other species is because animals can't argue for their "right to live" like humans can. We can't communicate with animals and listen to their pleas for mercy in a human language, so we can rationalize away what we're doing much easier. But Viltrumites and humans not only look alike, they can perfectly understand each other. And despite Viltrumites having more collective knowledge, it seems like we have similar capacity for intelligence. Omni Man could hear people saying "don't do this" and understand every facet of humans. He lived in their society, walked among them, participated in their culture, and fully understood how intelligent and individual humans are, and he still killed them. It's honestly more incredible that the Viltrumite mental conditioning works so well that he's the only one who ever rebelled.

Matter of fact he gets shit on the whole time in a few ways There’s a chase scene where Lucan(Steve Harvey viltrumite) chases Mark and Mark comments how he’s pushing as hard as he can to fly as fast as possible but Lucan is still catching up to him Mark also punches one of the viltrumites in the back of the neck and it does next to nothing Mark makes a comment to Nolan about never having to push like this as far as strength goes and Nolan basically explains how Viltrumite strength works where you actually have to work out and push yourself to get stronger and Mark has never done that The whole fight also takes place from day to night showing just how much endurance they have And the Viltrumites do actually give Mark aid and get him bandaged up before they dip(not sure why they cut this part)

"I mean, they was gonna die next week anyway" => "I mean, they was gonna die next decade anyway" Honestly I was never more immersed into the mindset of a superhuman character then I was for this, you find it so hard to care for their lives, but by comparing it to how humans are seen by viltrumites I can understand that it doesn't matter how much they live, they should be respected as any sentient creature.

I understand where both Mark and his dad are coming from, and it's difficult to say with 100% certainty what actually is the right thing to say or do. Nolan clearly is dealing with guilt and regret, and in that regard I do respect him a little more than I did before. On the other hand, what's done is done. It's not like he can take it back, and it's not something that's easy to forgive either. The best thing Nolan can do at this point is to spend the rest of his life atoning. He's got a long life.... so that's plenty of atoning that can be done for the shit he committed. Because, the common reaction is to be like ew why are you fucking a bug, but then you realise that is essentially how they see us (if its not viltrum its the same) thereby revealing an interesting hyporcrisy. This doesn't just serve to make Omniman more sympathetic or anything but it adds a really cool depth to his mindset and how it changed after his time on earth and now this bug planet. Also, while I was obviously rooting for the humans in season 1 (since thats literally us right), my view on Omniman's out-of-touchness and apathy towards our race to be just an extension of how we see animals/livestock (I think the word livestock literally comes up). And I don't mean this in a super vegan/PETA way but moreso, from Omniman's perspective, it must be strange that we're so hung up about the loss of these lives etc. when we commit 1000 holocausts every day against all kinds of animals without batting an eye - because from our perspective its just the way of the world and we are above them in the food chain (and viltrumites are above everyone else). And I think Roshi's joke "they're gonna die in a week anyways" is bar for bar what Omniman said about us which is what makes this part of the story cool (not that the joke is that serious lol but it is what makes Omniman's character more interesting to me). I hope what I said makes sense and this is development is honestly what is keeping me hooked for this season because my personal opinion is that so far this season has been very whatever.

As for Nolan's son, the mixed DNA makes him age faster in his infancy, but will slow down as time goes on in his later years. Nolan has only been gone for roughly 6 months now Earth time; so yes, the Thraxan dna made his son age super fast, but in the comics he'll age slower as time goes on from the Viltrumite side of things.

Him having “died” in the field was actually just a part of his off-screen backstory that he mentioned one time. So it’s interesting seeing it turned in an actual arc on the show. It’s one of the things that highlights how the original comic was much more irreverent in tone compared to the show, similar to how Mark’s reunion with his dad in the show is (understandably) far more hostile than it was in the comics (the greater sincerity of the show, is part of why I prefer its presentation of the story over the comics). If it wasn’t clear by Nolan surviving having his back broken, both Lucan (the Steve Harvey-looking Viltrumite) and Thula (the one with the dagger braid-hair) both survived their battle with Nolan as well (despite their grievous injuries). Viltrumites basically need to have their brain or heart be damaged beyond repair to 100% guarantee their death.

Not to spoil anything but the only reason why Nolan is conflicted isn’t just because of Mark, it’s because he fell in love with Debbie and how compassion humanity can be. Mark was the tipping point. To him we live such short lives but we cherish the simple moments. His people are some fearsome conquerors who are ancient and have grown further apart. Volatile and distant. Mark continues to grow and becomes wiser with each battle he faces. A viltrumite with compassion is a big deal!

It's a cutthroat culture of survival of the fittest and they're all about completing their mission so when Omniman came to Earth and had Mark, after he displayed his powers he probably knew that it was only a matter of time until the others came to Earth so he decided right then and there to fulfill his mission. The only thing is he cared for Mark and Debbie so when Mark got in the way of the mission Omniman was conflicted when fighting him but in the end his feelings for Mark outweighed his mission.

But basically either their brain or heart has to be damaged beyond repair for a Viltrumite to be assuredly killed, otherwise they are liable to survive and passively heal from most injuries (though it will take a while to heal depending on the severity).
